Boston’s Jayson Tatum got MVP in NBA2K’s official sim; what else can it tell us about potential Celtics hardware for 2022-23?

What are Joe Mazzulla’s odds of winning Coach of the Year? Or Malcolm Brogdon’s for Sixth Man of the Year? Could Marcus Smart repeat as Defensive Player of the Year?

The 2022-23 NBA season still has to be played out; teams have played just a handful of games. But the league’s official video game simulation series NBA2K has already wrapped up its official sim of the 2022-23 campaign with some promising results for fans of the Boston Celtics.

In it, star forward Jayson Tatum wins the 2023 Kia Most Valuable Player award, but the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast got together with the face of that video game series, Ronnie 2K, to talk over what else the season sim might tell us about the Celtics in the real world for their current campaign.

What are Joe Mazzulla’s odds of winning Coach of the Year? Or Malcolm Brogdon’s for Sixth Man of the Year? Could Marcus Smart repeat as Defensive Player of the Year?

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what the official NBA2K23 sim has to say about the Celtics in 2022-23.

NBA 2K official 2022-23 simulation sees Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum win MVP

Now the Duke alum just needs to do it in the real world.

The folks behind the hit video game NBA 2K23 have released their annual simulation for the 2022-23 season, and fans of the Boston Celtics might be surprised to hear that one of the team’s star wings won the league’s 2023 Kia Most Valuable Player award in the simulation.

Said player could well win it in real life given how well he has played so far this season. That player is All-NBA Celtics forward Jayson Tatum. Celtics Wire’s Cameron Tabatabaie recently had a chance to interview the face of the basketball video game simulation series, Ronnie 2K, for our sister site Rookie Wire, and Ronnie provided some context on that interesting outcome in the official 2022-23 simulation as it compares to the real NBA.

“The interesting thing about Jayson,” said Ronnie, “is that he doesn’t put up a ton of just empty stats.”

“If the Celtics play like they did the last couple months of the season last year, (a real-world MVP bid is) definitely very possible,” he added.

Tatum will likely need to at least keep pace with his early season numbers, but if he can, that hardware might be more than simulated.

Celtics Lab 149: On Jayson Tatum’s 2023 MVP in NBA 2K23’s official simulation, Marcus Smart’s DPOY repeat case and more with Ronnie 2K

They even talk about what teams end up in the simulated 2023 NBA Finals, but you’ll have to tune in to hear which ones they are.

While he still has to win the award in the actually existing 2022-23 NBA season, the official simulation of 2022-23 put together by the folks at NBA 2K23 has granted the 2023 Kia Most Valuable Player award to superstar Boston Celtics swingman Jayson Tatum.

To talk about Tatum’s hardware in the official sim, co-host of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast Cameron Tabatabaie linked up with Ronnie 2K, the face of the popular game. The duo gets into Marcus Smart’s chances to repeat as Defensive Player of the Year, whether we’ll see enough of Celtics center Robert Williams III for him to be in the running, and more about the season to come based on how the simulation went in the popular video game.

Take a listen to the clip embedded below to get up to speed on what NBA 2K might be able to tell us about the real season about to unfold.

Who should have a higher NBA 2K rating: Jayson Tatum or Jimmy Butler?

The Celtics star did help his team dispatch the Heat veteran and his squad — but it was a close contest, and they are not their teams.

“If we are being honest, he’s not the same guy,” claimed Heavy analyst Adam Taylor regarding Miami Heat veteran wing Jimmy Butler and All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum in a recent video short debating which of two he believes merits a higher rating in the latest update of the popular basketball simulation game NBA 2K23.

Both the Heat star and Tatum have an overall rating of 93 in the game’s most recent update, which sparked some debate as to whether the St. Louis native was being undervalued by the video game’s creators based off of his recent play in the 2022 NBA Playoffs.

Is the host of the “Celtics Collective” podcast right about the disparity between what the two stars can do on a basketball court and how NBA 2K has them rated?

Celtics Lab 142: All things Boston Celtics and NBA2K with Ronnie 2K

Remember when the biggest blip on the Boston Celtics’ horizon was gripes about the newest ratings of their players in the latest NBA 2K ratings update?

Remember when the biggest blip on the Boston Celtics’ horizon was gripes about the newest ratings of their players in the latest NBA 2K ratings update? We certainly do after a day of chaos in the organization tied to a scandal surrounding Celtics head coach Ime Udoka that broke just after we finished recording this episode.

In it, we talk with NBA 2K frontman Ronnie 2K about the latest iteration of the game, the Celtics in it, how they feel about their ratings, how it’s made, and what might be coming down the pike. We even get into how Ronnie’s looming wedding and host Cameron Tabatabaie’s tweets made it into the game.

We do NOT talk about Udoka, of course, given the timing. But there’s plenty of news about Boston’s training camp prospects and other less incendiary topics to spell you from the whirlwind engulfing the Celtics at present.

NBA 2K23 patch notes: Update 1.006 fixes bugs and improves stability

Less than a week after the last minor patch, the team behind NBA 2K23 released another update to improve stability.

Just two days after the last NBA 2K23 patch, the team at 2K released another minor update to the game. Thankfully, unlike with the 1.005 update, we actually have some tangible patch notes this time, and we don’t have to rely on the community to find the minor changes. This patch comes a day after 2K warned customers that they had been hacked, and should reset their passwords immediately. We’ll give you the full patch notes here.

NBA 2K23 patch notes: Update 1.02 lets you sign a shoe deal

NBA 2K23 has been out for a few weeks, and while major updates are still in the works, this minor patch addresses one annoying issue.

After a decent launch, NBA 2K23 continues to support the community with this patch, which released last night. That said, if you were hoping for any major additions, fixes, or changes, you’re in for a surprise, as this is as minor as patches get. The game hasn’t been out for a month yet, so it’s fair to expect that a major patch is still in the works to address the game’s biggest issues.

Still, we’ll tell you everything we know this patch affected, and any confirmations from developers, Visual Concept.

Celtics’ Luke Kornet checks in as league’s 7th-slowest player in new NBA 2K assessment

The Green Kornet is just ahead of the Utah Jazz’ Walker Kessler in this assessment.

Boston Celtics reserve big man Luke Kornet has been rated the seventh-slowest player in the league after a new round of ratings adjustments for the popular basketball simulation game NBA 2k was released and assessed by HoopsHype.

The former Vanderbilt player came out of the latest round of ratings with an overall speed rating of 38, with it dropping to 33 with the ball. That puts him ahead of a four-way tie for first including the Milwaukee Bucks’ Brook Lopez (25 overall and with the ball), twin Robin Lopez of the Cleveland Cavaliers (same stats) and Boban Marjanovic of the Houston Rockets (same stats). He’s also ahead of Ivica Zubac of the Los Angeles Clippers (26 overall and with the ball), former Boston player Kelly Olynyk (31 overall and 25 with the ball), and Sacramento Kings center Alex Len (43 overall and 25 with the ball).

The Green Kornet is just ahead of the Utah Jazz’ Walker Kessler (37 overall and 35 with the ball) in this assessment.

An outsider’s view of the Boston Celtics’ new NBA 2K ratings

How does a neutral party see the state of affairs when it comes to 2K ratings and Boston?

When it comes to the month of September and the annual release of updated NBA 2K ratings for the season about to unfold, there is never a shortage of peeved players or fans stanning for their favorite players on their favorite teams dissatisfied with the ratings given to them by the hard-working crew behind the popular basketball simulation game.

This year, fans of the Boston Celtics have plenty to take issue with, and Celtics star Jaylen Brown and reserve forward Grant Williams have made their feelings known about their most recent assessments for the 2022-23 season.

But how does a neutral party see the state of affairs when it comes to 2K ratings and Boston?

The host of the Celtics Blog “Celtics Pod” podcast Adam Taylor is joined by guest Adam Nunes to attempt to learn exactly that; take a look at the clip embedded above to see how well they did in your own estimation.
