Phoenix’s Devin Booker named cover athlete for NBA 2K23

The makers of NBA 2K23 officially announced that Phoenix Suns All-Star Devin Booker will be the next cover athlete for the franchise’s beloved game. Pre-orders are available now ahead of the game’s official launch in early September. Booker joins Michael Jordan, Diana Taurasi, and Sue Bird for a fleet of special editions of NBA 2K23.

Devin Booker was just named to the 2021-2022 All-NBA First Team, and is easily one of the Association’s brightest stars. Phoenix clearly loves their dynamic guard – the team just inked Booker to a four-year, $224 million contract extension. Becoming the face of the most popular NBA video game is icing on the cake.

NBA 2K23 reveals Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi as WNBA edition cover athletes

Both WNBA stars will be front and center.

Not one but two legends of women’s basketball will continue making history this fall.

On Wednesday, 2K Sports revealed that none other than Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird are the cover athletes for NBA 2K23‘s WNBA Edition. As part of the announcement, NBA 2K is partnering with both stars to donate $100,000 to Every Kid Sports, giving children across the US an opportunity to join youth basketball programs. Taurasi, the Phoenix Mercury icon and five-time Olympic gold medalist, couldn’t be happier about it.

“It really is an incredible feeling to see your hard work memorialized on the cover of a game like NBA 2K23,” Taurasi said in a press release. “There are so many kids that dream of pursuing a professional basketball career, and they can now also dream of being on the NBA 2K cover, whether they want to play in the NBA or WNBA.”

Sue Bird, another five-time Olympic gold champion and Seattle Storm superstar, echoed a similar sentiment.

“It’s amazing to see myself on the cover of a video game that has such a cultural impact,” Bird said in a press release. “And by partnering with NBA 2K and Every Kid Sports, Diana and I have the opportunity to open doors to hundreds of young girls in this country who want to express themselves on the court. I’m honored to be on the cover, and even more honored to use my legacy to provide these opportunities for the next generation.”

Check out the cover art for yourself below.

2K also put together a brief highlight reel of both athletes’ accomplishments.

Last year, 2K Sports released the first-ever WNBA Edition of NBA 2K with the Chicago Sky’s Candace Parker on the cover. So Taurasi and Bird are in good company.

Earlier this week, 2K announced Michael Jordan will also be on NBA 2K23‘s cover for the Michael Jordan Edition and Championship Edition. It’s a stacked list of names, no doubt.

NBA 2K23 will launch Sept. 9, 2022, for several yet-to-be-revealed platforms. Pre-orders begin July 7, 2022.

Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird named cover athletes for NBA 2K23 WNBA Edition

WNBA superstars Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird will grace the cover of NBA 2K23 WNBA Edition.

The launch of the latest edition of NBA 2K is an exciting moment for all basketball fans, and the newest version of the game might be the most exciting iteration yet. Last year the franchise featured its first female cover athlete, showcasing Candace Parker on the front of the game. This year, 2K is back with two WNBA superstars.

Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird will grace the cover of NBA 2K23 WNBA Edition. Taurasi is the league’s all-time leading scorer, a three time champion, and a five-time Olympic gold medalist. Bird, meanwhile, is a four-time champ and a thirteen-time All-Star with five Olympic gold medals of her own. Taurasi and Bird join Michael Jordan and Devin Booker as cover athletes for NBA 2K23.

Along with elevating the profile of the women’s professional hoops in the US, NBA 2K announced it is partnering with the WNBA to make a $100,000 donation to Every Kid Sports, a group dedicated to lowering financial barriers of entry to youth sports. The donation is aimed at helping 550 young girls and women across the US in registering for neighborhood basketball programs.

“It really is an incredible feeling to see your hard work memorialized on the cover of a game like NBA 2K23,” Taurasi said of the recognition. “There are so many kids that dream of pursuing a professional basketball career, and they can now also dream of being on the NBA 2K cover, whether they want to play in the NBA or WNBA.”

The WNBA Edition of NBA 2K23 includes special Bird and Taurasi bonus jerseys as part of the standard gameplay. Pre-orders of the game go live on July 7th, while the official release is set for early September.

Michael Jordan will grace the cover of NBA 2K23’s special editions

The legend returns to 2K’s wildly popular basketball sim.

Basketball icon Michael Jordan will be the cover star of NBA 2K23’s special editions.

On Tuesday, 2K announced the Michael Jordan Edition and Championship Edition of NBA 2K23. Not only that, but the legendary Jordan Challenges are coming back with this installment, where the goal is to re-create 15 legendary moments from Jordan’s career. 10 of these challenges come straight from  NBA 2K11, while the remaining 5 will be all-new. It’s all quite fitting, given that 23 was the six-time NBA World Champion’s jersey number for several teams.

“After making 23 the most recognizable number in sports, it was only fitting that for NBA 2K23 we introduce the Michael Jordan Edition,” Alfie Brody, vice president of global marketing strategy for NBA 2K, said in a press release.

Check out the screenshots below to see Michael Jordan’s in-game models. There are two variants: one from the 1980s and another more akin to his 1990s look—the latter representing his iconic era of playing with Bugs Bunny.

There’s also a better look at both the Michael Jordan Edition and Championship Editions below.

2K also confirmed that NBA 2K23 will release on Sept. 9, 2023. No platform information yet, but PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC are safe bets. At least, going off of the previous installment‘s release pipeline. Fingers crossed for a Sega Dreamcast port.

Pre-orders for NBA 2K23 begin July 7, 2022. The Standard and Digital Deluxe editions will have another yet-to-be-revealed cover star. 2K will reveal that athlete once pre-orders go live.

If you somehow missed out on NBA 2K22, it’s currently free via Xbox Game Pass.
