TreVeyon Henderson, Running Back – The Ohio State dynamic running back is a difference maker for this offense. Sure, we are looking for Kyle McCord to show us he is making strides as we head to the Michigan game, but Henderson gives the Buckeyes the balance they need to be able to operate in other area, plus he provides that home run ability in the ground game.

2023 stats

90 carries for 585 yards (6.5 avg.), 7 TDs
12 receptions for 170 yards (14.2 avg.)

Nathan Carter, Running Back – From one back to another, the Michigan State back has to be able to get some yards on first and second down to not put a young quarterback in obvious passing situations against one of the best defenses in the country. He hasn’t taken over games too often in 2023, but the Spartans will need him to in this one.

2023 stats

156 carries for 659 yards (4.2 avg.), 4 TDs
19 receptions for 98 yards (5.2 avg.)

Five transfers who will help make or break Michigan State football’s season

Which 5 transfers will help make or break MSU’s 2023 season:

Michigan State is heading into year four of the Mel Tucker era in East Lansing, and in desperate need of having a bounce back year, after a 5-7 campaign a year ago. Tucker and his staff dipped into the transfer portal once again to help reshape the starting roster and has seemingly done a strong job.

For MSU to have the bounce back year they have their eyes set on, the Spartans are going to need several of there incoming transfer to perform as advertised and step up in a big way.

Check out which five transfers are imperative for MSU to have a bounce back year in 2023:

Quotes: MSU football RB coach Effrem Reed speaks to media

RB coach Effrem Reed spoke to the media on Monday:

Fall camp is moving along for Michigan State football, with a lot of questions for the Spartans coaching staff to answer. Notably, one of the biggest questions is how the running back situation will play out.

The Spartans have several suitors vying for touches in the running back room, including UConn transfer Nate Carter, USF transfer Jaren Mangham and veterans Jalen Berger and Jordon Simmons.

MSU’s running backs coach Effrem Reed followed OC Jay Johnson to the podium on Monday, specifically discussing the running backs room.

Check out what the leader of MSU’s RBs had to say to the media on Monday:

Michigan State football lands UConn transfer running back Nathan Carter

Michigan State football lands UConn transfer running back Nathan Carter

After officially losing out on 4-star running back Kedrick Reescano for their 2023 recruiting class, it was assumed by many that Michigan State football would then turn to the transfer portal to fill that spot in their backfield. They were able to fill that hole rather quickly, as UConn transfer running back Nathan Carter announced that he is committing to the Spartans.

Carter rushed for 578 yards and 2 touchdowns back in 2021 and showed some ability to catch the ball out of the backfield as well. Last year, he rushed for 405 yards on just 65 carries (6.2 average). He looks to be a solid addition to the running back room for MSU and should complement Jalen Berger well.
