Princeton’s Blake Peters borrowed from Kevin Garnett for his post-Missouri celebration

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

NBA legend Kevin Garnett would be proud with how Princeton guard Blake Peters celebrated his team’s 78-63 victory over No. 7 Missouri on Saturday.

Yes, No. 15 Princeton became the third Ivy League school to make it to the men’s NCAA tournament Sweet 16 this weekend, joining Penn (1978, 1979) and Cornell (2010), per the CBS broadcast.

Peters had a second-best 17 points in the victory for the Tigers. Plus, he tossed out the perfect response to Princeton’s improbable Sweet 16 berth.

Borrowing former Boston Celtics star Garnett’s legendary NBA championship exclamation, Peters yelled that “Anything is possible!” during his postgame interview.

For Princeton, it really is. Nobody is going to want to play this Ivy League program for the rest of this year’s tournament.

Well, that’ll get you hyped up. Peters and his fellow Tigers will surely be ready to take on whomever is coming next for the tournament.

Maybe he can keep quoting Garnett if his team keeps winning. It’s a wonderful way to mark such a special tournament run for Princeton.

NCAA Tournament Round of 64: No. 7 Missouri vs. No. 10 Utah State First Look At The Tigers

Utah State receives an at-large bid and No. 10 seed after run to MWC title game. There they find SEC for Missouri.

After a stunning run to the Mountain West Tournament Championship game last Saturday. The Utah State Aggies, who fell short against the regular season & tournament champion San Diego State, are still going dancing.

Having the conference rated so highly since very early on in the season certainly helped the Aggies Case on selection Sunday. After successfully navigating a non-conference slate with quality wins over San Francisco & Oral Roberts. The only blemish Utah State had to overcome was a 75-72 loss to Weber State at home in mid-December.

It was never a guarantee for Ryan Odom’s group but hearing the Aggies name called as a No. 10 seed Sunday was just the right amount of reassurance for this great Utah State team. They drew SEC opponent Missouri in their first round matchup, here is a little about the Tigers.

Who Are The Tigers

Coach

The Tigers are led by first year head coach Dennis Gates. A former California guard who got his first head coaching gig in the Midwest at Cleveland State.

There he led the Vikings to back to back Horizon League regular season titles. Also winning two Coach of the Year awards and making a trip to the big dance (the programs 3rd ever) and NIT. It was impressive enough to make the jump to the SEC last offseason.

Prior to his arrival, his predecessor had taken the Tigers to two NCAA Tournaments and has Missouri ranked in the top-10 just a season prior before stumbling to a 12-21 (5-13) finish. Back in the big dance in just year one has fans in Columbia jumping with excitement for the future.

Star Players

Sr. G-Kobe Brown (6-8, 250)

Stats: 15.8 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 2.5 APG, 1.5 SPG & 44.7% from three

Gr. G-D’Moi Hodges (6-4, 188)

Stats: 14.8 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 2.6 SPG, 1.6 APG & 40.1% from free

Gr. G-DeAndre Gholston (6-5, 215)

Stats: 10.7 PPG, 2.3 RPG & 1.8 APG

How Did They Get Here

The Tigers secured an at-large bid by giving a very convincing non-conference performance. This as well as battling it out in the ever demanding SEC. Their resume began to truly take shape in late December. During the Holiday Break, Missouri managed to secure back to back wins over two top-25 ranked opponents.

Routing the No. 16 Illinois Fighting Illini in a neutral site cross border rivalry game in St. Louis. While then kicking off conference play against No. 19 ranked Kentucky squad, with a double digit win in Columbia.

Coach Gate’s squad then navigated their way throughout uber-competitive SEC. With wins over Arkansas, securing the sweep of a top-5 Tennessee Vols team and adding another top-25 win over Iowa State. Who themselves competed in the highest rated league in the nation in the Big 12.

The Tigers resume was stamped with a loss to eventual SEC Tournament champions Alabama last week. But the committee looked at an exciting Missouri team who could hang with the best of them and awarded them a No. 7 seed.

Biggest Wins

Neutral Site-No. 16 Illinois 93-71

Home Against-No. 19 Kentucky 89-75

@-No. 5 Tennessee 86-85

How to watch Alabama vs. Missouri in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament!

Alabama defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Friday in dominating fashion 72-49 while Missouri outlasted the Tennessee Volunteers 79-71 on Friday.

Alabama and Missouri had faced off once this season in Columbia when the Crimson Tide took down the Tigers 85-64. It’s important to note that Missouri was without its best player, Kobe Brown, for that matchup.

Saturday’s semifinal matchup is sure to be a fun one. Here is how you can catch all of the action!

After a mostly dominating performance throughout the league play, the Alabama Crimson Tide, led by freshmen sensation Brandon Miller, will be the top overall seed in the tournament. Texas A&M, Kentucky, and Missouri round out the top four seeds that receive a double-bye in the tournament and will not play until the quarterfinals, which are set for Friday, March 10.

The tournament is set to begin on Wednesday, March 8 from inside Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

Below is the complete schedule of games including tipoff times and TV lineup!

Tennessee embarrassingly lost on second buzzer-beater of week in stunning Missouri finish

Tennessee is DOWN BAD.

The Tennessee men’s basketball team needs to check to see if anyone on the squad has broken any mirrors lately.

The Volunteers have suffered outrageously bad luck lately, losing Saturday on their second buzzer-beater in a matter of days.

First, the Vanderbilt Commodores conjured some Memorial Magic as they hit a last-second shot on Wednesday to take down Tennessee and snap an 11-game losing streak to the Vols.

Tennessee didn’t find a better outcome against Missouri on Saturday in Knoxville.

As time was expiring in the SEC contest, Tennessee inexplicably got called for an offensive foul while attempting free throws (?!) before Missouri stunned the home crowd as Tigers grad student DeAndre Gholston hit the long 3-pointer for the 86-85 victory.

It’s tough to lose to lose one buzzer-beater during the week, much less two.

Tennessee coach Rick Barnes is going to want to work on situational basketball with his guys in practice this week if the Vols are to make waves in March.

Missouri turned a broken play into an epic March Madness-style buzzer beater to beat UCF

What a shot!

It’s only December, but Missouri’s men’s basketball team is already playing like it’s March with its season on the line, taking down UCF on Saturday with a stunning buzzer beater. And it was a thrilling final nine seconds.

With less than a minute left, the Knights — who were down 51-37 at one point in the second half — hit a 3-point shot to take a 66-65 lead. UCF’s Jayhlon Young tried to extend that lead with about nine seconds on the clock, but he missed from behind the arc.

That’s when Missouri guard D’Moi Hodge snatched the rebound and charged up the court. Double-teamed near the sideline, Hodge lost his footing and went down, but not before he managed to get the ball into teammate DeAndre Gholston’s hands.

From the logo, Gholston launched his shot with about a second left on the clock for a perfect buzzer beater, lifting the Tigers to a 68-66 victory.

What a shot! Gholston finished with 16 points, including the game-winner.

Is it March yet? Because this play had basketball fans fired up.

Bad Beat: Missouri men covered a massive spread on a completely useless half-court heave as time expired

It’s almost like they knew what the spread was.

While much of the sports world was still trying to figure out what the heck happened in insane finishes between the Vikings and Bills and Cowboys and Packers on Sunday, a few others were witnessing one of the worst bad beats of the early college basketball season.

Missouri played host to Lindenwood (also in Missouri in case you’re wondering), and the Tigers were favored by 27.5 points. Up by 28, they allowed a late layup to Lindenwood, which appeared to have covered the spread with just a few second left on the clock.

But then Missouri’s Ben Sternberg hoisted a 3-pointer from half court as time expired, and he cashed it!

So unnecessary, and yet so costly for Lindenwood bettors!

Look at how Sternberg and Missouri’s bench reacted after the shot, as if they knew that shot covered the spread.

I can’t imagine many people outside of Missouri bet this game. But for anyone who took the +27.5, that is a tough way to lose it.

Former Clemson point guard transfers to Missouri

One of Clemson basketball’s transfers has selected a new team.

Former Clemson point guard Nick Honor has transferred to the University of Missouri, as he announced on his Instagram on Tuesday.

The 5-foot-10 senior chose Missouri over SMU and Minnesota after narrowing his list down to those three teams on April 8.

In 33 games with the Tigers last season, Honor averaged 7.7 points and 2.4 assists per game. The 5-foot-10 guard transferred from Fordham to Clemson in 2019 and will now join his third team in his career.

The announcement comes six days after Clemson added Princeton transfer guard Jaelin Llewellyn, who will alleviate Honor’s departure.

“Maybe they’ll get the message this time around.. Committed to the University of Missouri,” Honor wrote on his Instagram.

Along with Honor, former Clemson guard Al-Amir Dawes entered the transfer portal on April 5 and has yet to select a new team.
