Pinstripe Bowl: Minnesota vs. Syracuse odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Minnesota vs. Syracuse Pinstripe Bowl odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers (8-4) and Syracuse Orange (7-5) meet Thursday in the Bronx for the Pinstripe Bowl. Kickoff at Yankee Stadium will be at 2 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Minnesota vs. Syracuse odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Minnesota was solid down the stretch after a 3-game losing skid in October. The Gophers have gone 4-1 straight-up and 3-2 against the spread over their final 5 games and did not allow more than 16 points in any single game in that span.

Syracuse faltered after a 6-0 start to the season. The Orange did play a tougher slate in the 2nd half of the season, but they have also struggled in stopping the run. Opponents have rushed for 200 or more yards in 4 of the their last 6 games.

Minnesota vs. Syracuse odds

Provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. ET.

  • Moneyline: Minnesota -410 (bet $410 to win $100) | Syracuse +320 (bet $100 to win $320)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Minnesota -10.5 (-106) | Syracuse +10.5 (-114)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 43 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Minnesota vs. Syracuse picks and predictions

Prediction

Minnesota 24, Syracuse 13

Moneyline

Syracuse may have had trouble on offense in this game anyway, but the Orange will be without sophomore RB Sean Tucker (1,060 yards, 11 TDs), who opted out, and offensive coordinator Robert Anae, who has moved on to North Carolina State.

The defense-and-running combo of Minnesota figures to lock this one down nearing a 75% probability. That does not make for any profit margin here.

PASS.

Against the spread

Minnesota is 5-0 ATS in its last 5 bowl games.

Look for early-down success rates — on both sides — to dictate where this one goes — or, how far it goes toward UM. Teams have found a lot of success staying on schedule running the ball against Syracuse.

However, the 10 points are a lot. Minnesota -10 is worth a partial-unit play, but PASS at the current 10.5-points.

Over/Under

The Under is 7-0 in Minnesota’s last 7 December games.

The Gophers’ defense is masterful at turning red-zone trips into field-goal attempts. UM has allowed TDs on just 40% of red-zone possessions; that ranks 4th in the nation.

Look for a first-half Minnesota lead to be boat-raced to the finish line. Row the boat and all. BACK THE UNDER 43 (-110).

Michigan at Minnesota odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Michigan at Minnesota odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Michigan Wolverines (5-3, 0-0 Big Ten) and Minnesota Golden Gophers (4-4, 0-1) clash in a Big Ten showdown Thursday in Minneapolis. The opening tip at Williams Arena will be at 9 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Michigan vs. Minnesota odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Michigan lost to Kentucky Sunday (73-69) and heads to Minneapolis with back-to-back losses in tow. The Wolverines were a +8 underdog and stayed with the No. 16 Wildcats by shooting 40% from beyond the 3-point arc.

The Golden Gophers dropped an 89-70 game at No. 4 Purdue Sunday for their 3rd loss in a row. The Gophers are just 7-20 in this calendar year. They are, however, 3-1 straight-up and 3-1 against the spread (ATS) over their last 4 games against Michigan.

Michigan at Minnesota picks and predictions

Prediction

Michigan 70, Minnesota 64

Moneyline

Michigan will, but is not worth the risk. PASS.

Against the spread

The Wolverines are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight-up loss. And UM’s last 2 games — both losses — were well-played, taut contests against top-25-caliber teams.

Thursday’s game marks Michigan’s 1st true road game of the season (after 4 neutral-site battles away from Ann Arbor).  But the youthful Wolverines take good care of the basketball and get more quality shots in their offense than  Minnesota does.

Gopher losses to DePaul (Nov. 14) and UNLV (Nov. 23) do not bode well for this betting situation against Michigan.

BACK THE WOLVERINES -4.5 (-115).

Over/Under

Figure a conference game slowing the pace a bit for both sides. Michigan sports a mid-range tempo, and Minnesota already plays at a bottom-quartile pace.

Points from distance, the free-throw line and off turnovers and rebounds don’t figure to be on the loose.

TAKE THE UNDER 135.5 (-110).

Minnesota at Purdue odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Minnesota at Purdue odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers (4-3) travel to West Lafayette to take on the No. 5 Purdue Boilermakers (7-0) Sunday at 5 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Minnesota vs. Purdue odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

A legitimate argument can be made that Purdue should be the No. 1 team in the nation. The Boilermakers may have the best resume of any team this far into the season. It includes victories against No. 7 Duke and No. 2 Gonzaga by 19 and 18 points, respectively, and the Boilermakers are also the only team to beat 6-1 West Virginia.

All-American Zach Edey paces the Purdue team of veterans with 22.1 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. He will dominate again in this game, and it will make a tough time for the Gophers to win in West Lafayette.

The Golden Gophers covered as 10.5 underdogs in a 67-57 loss to Virginia Tech last Monday, so they are well rested. They will need their strength to compete with what looks to be the best team in the Big Ten. This will be a tough test for Minnesota. If they win, it could go a long way to deciding a tournament bid for them in March.

Minnesota at Purdue picks and predictions

Prediction

Purdue 74, Minnesota 51

Moneyline

PASS.

With a moneyline this high, it is not worth the risk to make a play. Purdue is going to win. But it is not acceptable to make a straight wager on a -2500 line for any game or sport.

Against the spread

BET PURDUE -18.5 (-115).

This is difficult as the O/U of 130.5 would make you think the game would be closer then 19 points. But with the way Purdue is stuffing teams on defense, this is not the case. Beating West Virginia by 12, Gonzaga by 18 and Duke by 19 is quite impressive for a Boilermakers team looking to win the Big Ten and get a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. They are well on their way.

Edey is the front-runner for the Naismith Award as player of the year and he should take over this game from the center position. Do not sleep on this Purdue team in March and certainly do not sleep on them in this game. Take Purdue -18.5 (-115) as my favorite play.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 130.5 (-115).

Edey and the Boilermakers will dominate the rebounds in this game and limit the number of put back attempts the Golden Gophers receive. On the other end, Purdue will also dominate the post and muscle Minnesota around. This will be physical and low scoring. But it will be Purdue that comes out on top and wins this battle.

Rutgers at Minnesota odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Minnesota Golden Gophers odds and lines, with college football expert picks and predictions.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (4-3, 1-3 Big Ten) visit the Minnesota Golden Gophers (4-3, 1-3) for a Saturday matinee at Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rutgers vs. Minnesota odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Both Rutgers and Minnesota head into Saturday’s game looking to double their Big Ten win total. The Scarlet Knights picked up their 1st league win last week when they held Indiana to 3 points after the 1st quarter in a 24-17 victory in Piscataway. Rutgers held the Hoosiers to a 2-of-12 mark on 3rd downs and allowed just 272 total yards in snapping a 3-game losing streak.

The Golden Gophers have dropped 3 straight conference games since they covered a 3-point spread and won 34-7 at Michigan State on Sept. 24. In each of those losses, the Gophers were down by 10-or-more points by mid-2nd-quarter, and that cut into Minnesota’s ability to best leverage its strong run game. UM’s 218.4 rushing yards per game rank 2nd in the league.

Rutgers at Minnesota picks and predictions

Prediction

Minnesota 31, Rutgers 13

Moneyline

AVOID. No true-odds plays (maybe -550?) available here due to the substantial juice. And the UM ATS play has plenty going for it.

Against the spread

Minnesota struggled on 3rd downs in its loss to Penn State. UM’s game against Michigan State (a 34-7 Gophers win on Sept. 24) is an interesting adjacent-comp for this contest.

Peg Minnesota’s defense (multiple success rate splits are encouraging) as being quite good but unheralded.

GOPHERS -13.5 (-122) is a small-to-moderate leverage play.

Over/Under

The Over is 13-4-1 in Minnesota’s last 18 games after scoring less-than-20 points in its previous game.

OVER 40.5 (-110) is a moderate-confidence play in this game. Look for 10-17 points from the visiting Knights in a game where the Minnesota offense gets right after a tough slate.

Minnesota at Penn State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Minnesota at Penn State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers (4-2, 1-2 Big Ten) travel to Happy Valley to face the No. 16 Penn State Nittany Lions (5-1, 2-1) Saturday in the greatest show in college sports. Kickoff for this year’s edition of the White Out Game is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET (ABC). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Minnesota vs. Penn State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Minnesota comes into this game on a 2-game losing streak, with both losses being against Big Ten opponents. They first lost Oct. 1, to Purdue (20-10), and then continued their losing streak Oct. 15, vs. Illinois (26-14). This will be their 4th-straight game vs. a Big Ten opponent, with their lone win coming Sept. 24, vs. Michigan State (34-7). They are hoping that QB Tanner Morgan will be able to play in this big-time matchup after being carted off the field in last weekend’s loss. If he’s out, this will make an already tough matchup even tougher.

Penn State comes into this game looking for a big win to keep their hopes of getting an NY6 bowl game alive. After suffering their 1st loss of the season in a blowout game vs. Michigan (41-17) last weekend, they are looking to get back on track. Led by 6th-year QB Sean Clifford and standout freshman RB Nick Singleton, this team poses a tough matchup for this Minnesota squad. Clifford is completing only 59% of his passes (92 of 156 attempts) for 1,150 yards and 9 TDs with 2 interceptions. Penn State will look to their offense to produce points and electrify the white out crowd in this game. Penn State is confident in their defense’s ability, and if Minnesota is without their QB it should further solidify the belief they have in this defense.

Penn State is No. 16 in the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Minnesota at Penn State picks and predictions

Prediction

Penn State 31, Minnesota 17

Moneyline

AVOID

This should be an easy win for Penn State, especially behind this electrifying white out crowd that is very happy with their team right now despite last week’s loss. But, they are too heavily favored for me to advise you to risk money here.

Against the spread

BET PENN STATE -5.5 (-108)

This is your safest play in this game. Penn State will come out of the gates firing on all cylinders after the blowout loss they suffered in last weekend’s game. Expect this defense to string together stops, even with Minnesota RB Mohamed Ibrahim back healthy. This team will rely heavily on the run, which is where Penn State’s defense lacked against Michigan, but don’t let that worry you too much. This Penn State offense will lean on its stars to make big plays, and when that happens and the crowd gets into it, they will essentially phase out Minnesota’s offense completely.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 43.5 (-107)

Normally I would advise you to lean on the Under in Penn State home games, but not in this one. Penn State should be able to score at will and expect the defense to make big plays, as they always seem to do. Don’t let last week’s score fool you, this Penn State defense is legit. At halftime of last week’s Michigan game, Penn State was only down 16-14, with 7 of those points being scored by the defense. This defense can hold teams, but the offense has to keep them off the field and hold their own. If Penn State can do that then they should comfortably cover the Over in this game.

Minnesota at Illinois odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Minnesota at Illinois odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers (4-1, 1-1 Big Ten) will face the Illinois Fighting Illini (5-1, 2-1) on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET (Big Ten Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Minnesota vs. Illinois odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Golden Gophers are coming off of a bye week following a disappointing 20-10 setback against Purdue in Week 5, their 1st loss of the season. Minnesota is expected to have RB Mohamed Ibrahim back in the mix on Saturday. He has rushed for 567 yards and 8 TDs in 4 games.

The Fighting Illini have already tied their win total from a season ago as coach Bret Bielema has them playing inspired in his 2nd year with the program. Illinois will also lean on its ground game, led by RB Chase Brown, who has 879 rushing yards and 4 rushing TDs in 6 games.

Minnesota at Illinois picks and predictions

Prediction

Minnesota 20, Illinois 17

Moneyline

This should be a competitive game between 2 Big Ten programs, but Minnesota should be able to pull off the win on the road. That being said, just AVOID the moneyline in this game as the Golden Gophers don’t have odds that are worth taking straight up.

Against the spread

Both of these teams are a combined 8-3 ATS, so it’s tough to side 1 way or the other. ILLINOIS +6.5 (-112) is where I’m leaning in this game with the Fighting Illini having the running game and the defense to keep it close.

Illinois is 4-0 ATS in its last 4 games following an ATS loss and is 7-1-1 ATS in its last 9 games against a team with a winning record.

Over/Under

UNDER 39.5 (-112) looks to be the move despite it being a low total. Minnesota and Illinois have formidable rushing attacks and defenses that should keep the scoring pretty low in a pivotal Big Ten showdown.

The Golden Gophers have hit the Under in 4 of their last 5 games against a team with a winning record and the Fighting Illini have hit the Under in each of their last 5 games following an ATS loss. Also, the Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between Minnesota and Illinois.

Purdue at Minnesota odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Purdue at Minnesota odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Purdue Boilermakers (2-2) face the Minnesota Golden Gophers (4-0) Saturday at noon ET. (ESPN2). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Purdue vs. Minnesota odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Minnesota comes into this game after dismantling Michigan State 34-7. That was a good sign as the Gophers schedule up to that point had been a mish mash of cupcakes which were dispatched with ease. Seeing Minnesota do this against a Big Ten team satisfied the naysayers for another week.

Purdue comes in after a struggle with Florida Atlantic, just barely prevailing 28-26. QB Aidan O’Connell and WR Charlie Jones, a transfer from Iowa, have hooked up 41 times for 533 yards and 7 TDs.

Minnesota has outscored its opponents 183-24 so far this season. They are the favorites right now to win the Big Ten West. This game will go a long way to determine if either of these 2 teams are on the right path.

Minnesota is No. 23 in the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Purdue at Minnesota picks and predictions

Prediction

Minnesota 31 Purdue 13

Money line

PASS. The line is too high so do not bet.

Against the spread

Take MINNESOTA -12.5 (-110) for the win.

We did not know what to expect from Minnesota after playing 3 easy home games to start the season. After holding New Mexico State, Western Illinois, and Colorado to a combined 17 points, we still needed to see more. We saw it as Minnesota held Michigan State to 7 points on the road last Saturday.

The Gophers’ offense is good. The defense is great. Much of this is due to their ability to not only pass with Tanner Morgan, but also run with Mohamed Ibrahim. They can control the clock and keep opposing teams off the field. Against the Spartans, Minnesota had the ball for 42 minutes to Michigan State’s18.

Doing this against Purdue, while also knowing that Purdue is completely one-dimensional on offense, means the Golden Gophers are set to dominate another game early in the season. Minnesota -12.5 (-110) is my favorite play of this game.

Over/Under

I like the UNDER 52.5 (-115) in this game.

As mentioned, Minnesota has a ball control offense and a dominant defense because of it. They have only allowed 24 points all season.

While Purdue can score, they are coming off a mediocre performance against Florida Atlantic. With Minnesota knowing Purdue cannot run, they will focus and shut down the pass game of Aidan O’Connell. This will lead to Purdue struggling and Minnesota pulling away. I expect the Under 52.5 (-113) to be the winner here.

Minnesota at Michigan State odds, picks, and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Minnesota at Michigan State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers (3-0) burrow into East Lansing to take on the 21st-ranked Michigan State Spartans (2-1) Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Minnesota vs. Michigan State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Rankings courtesy of the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Sixth-year QB Tanner Morgan has the Golden Gophers off to great start to open the season. However, the wins have come against some of the worst teams in college football (Colorado, Western Illinois and New Mexico State). Michigan State, despite losing last Saturday to Washington, is quite different from those teams.

The Spartans are coming off a devastating 39-28 loss to Washington in a game which many expected the Spartans to win.

The pass defense of Michigan State, which ranked 130th in FBS last season, is still a concern, ranking 103rd after 3 games. If Morgan can take advantage of this, Minnesota has a great chance to walk out of Spartan Stadium  victorious.

Minnesota at Michigan State picks and predictions

Prediction

Michigan State 24 Minnesota 21

Money line

BET MICHIGAN STATE +150.

Minnesota has played no one this season. In their 1st game against a tough opponent on the road, they will get a wake-up call against a Spartans team smarting after losing to Washington last Saturday.

Against the spread

Divvy up your full ML bet with SPARTANS +2.5 (+102).

This line looks like it will move even higher to +3. If it does, I would jump on it again. Even if it stays at +2.5, it is my favorite play of this game.

Over/Under

NO PLAY … but Under 51.5 (-117) would be the lean.

Minnesota has put up 38, 69 and 49 in their 3 matchups. The Spartans are aware of the potent offense and will counter it by rushing the ball. By keeping Morgan and the Gophers off the field, the game should hit the Under. But with the porous pass defense of the Spartans being a worry, 1 play could ruin this bet. So, I would stay away.

Colorado at Minnesota odds, picks, and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Colorado at Minnesota odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Colorado Buffalo (0-2) stumble into Minneapolis to face the Minnesota Golden Gophers (2-0) at 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Colorado vs. Minnesota odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

QB Tanner Morgan and Minnesota come into this game after demolishing Western Illinois 62-10 last Saturday. Colorado comes in after being trounced by Air Force 41-10. The Buffaloes were also being beaten at home in Week 1 by TCU 38-13.

The offense for Colorado is not good and the defense could be worse. Not only in Minnesota the better team under coach P.J. Fleck, but it also plays this game at home.

This could be another rough week for Colorado as it moves forward in the 2022 season.

Colorado at Minnesota picks and predictions

Prediction

Minnesota 45 Colorado 14

Money line

PASS. Do not take any line this high.

Minnesota lost last season to Bowling Green as a bigger favorite. But it is not common and not worth the risk.

Against the spread

LEAN MINNESOTA -27.5 (-117)

Morgan and Fleck have the Gophers 2-0 and while those games were against lowly competition in New Mexico State and Western Illinois,  Colorado is not any better than either of these teams.

After beating New Mexico State by 38 and Western Illinois by 53, this one will be just as lopsided.

Over/Under

OVER 46.5 (-115) is my favorite play in this game.

Colorado has scored a total of 23 points in 2 games while giving up 79. Minnesota has scored 101 in 2 games while giving up only 10.

While Colorado is not good, it will at least get to 10. With this total only being at 46.5, Minnesota will put this one over by scoring 40.

OVER 46.5 (-115) is my FAVORITE PLAY.

Minnesota at Maryland odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Minnesota at Maryland odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers (13-14, 4-14 Big Ten) and Maryland Terrapins (14-15, 6-12) meet Wednesday night in a Big Ten game in College Park, Md. The contest at the Xfinity Center tips off at 9 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Minnesota vs. Maryland odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Minnesota is a solid 3-point-shooting team, but struggles in the 2-point game. The slow-tempo Gophers have shot 43.0% from the field in going 3-13 in their last 16 games. Coming off two close losses at home, UM is looking for its first road win since Dec. 11.

The Terps are 3-1 in their last four games, including a 75-60 win Sunday over then-No. 19 Ohio State. Maryland has been trending the right way offensively after a sluggish start. The Terrapins have shot 47.2% from the floor while committing just 8.8 turnovers per game over their 3-1 stretch.

Minnesota at Maryland odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Maryland 73, Minnesota 66

Money line

PASS.

Against the spread

The Golden Gophers find themselves on the road after three straight home games. The last five times UM has been it that situation, it has gone 1-4 ATS in that first road tilt. Since 2019, Maryland is 4-0-1 ATS in this series.

Maryland is the better shooting and defensive team, and the Terps figure to have enough edge on the boards and in getting to the charity stripe to make MARYLAND -7.5 (-107) a workable play.

Over/Under

The Gophers can 3-ball their way to a couple of surges. The Terrapins are likely to notch a few runs via the offensive glass and a decent number of looks from the foul line.

It all spells a slight lean on the OVER 135.5 (-110).
