Ohio State football recruiting scouting report: Miles Lockhart

Ohio State football recruiting scouting report: Miles Lockhart #GoBucks

Ohio State football had another dominant recruiting class and landed a consensus top-five class in the country. Once again, the class features serious star power and was able to snag some amazing talent on the defensive side of the football including an extremely intriguing cornerback from the state of Arizona.

Name: Miles Lockhart

High School: Basha (Chandler, AZ)

Height: 5 feet, 9 inches

Weight: 193 pounds

Position: Cornerback

Strengths

Miles Lockhart is listed at 5 feet ten inches and 185 pounds, which is already big enough to take on Big Ten defensive backs and he has obvious room to add even more weight likely passing the 200-pound mark his first year on campus. Lockhart is a guy who has made great improvements from his junior to senior year and the Buckeyes may have landed an underrated player that is about to hit a major upswing development-wise. Lockhart also has Big Ten-level speed, which will help him stick to any receiver he might face.

Weaknesses

Miles Lockhart is more physically developed than others in this class and has some jack-of-all-trades traits, which leads me to believe that his ceiling isn’t necessarily as high as some other young defensive backs. Lockhart also dealt with some injuries during his high school career and that doesn’t exactly bode well for a much tougher grind at the Big Ten level.

Expectations

Miles Lockhart can grow into a solid contributor for the Buckeyes. It is a very deep defensive back room at Ohio State so I do not expect him to see the field early, but Lockhart should develop into a quality nickel corner who can play at a relatively high level in the slot in a few years.

Scout’s view: Ohio State’s newest commitment, cornerback Miles Lockhart

Another very good prospect is on their way to Columbus #GoBucks

Ohio State had three main targets in its 2024 cornerback recruiting, and with Thursday’s commitment of [autotag]Miles Lockhart[/autotag] and previously Bryce West, they have two of the three committed.

They’ll find out later this month about Aaron Scott, but grabbing Lockhart is a big recruiting win. Although he isn’t as highly ranked as the other two, the 5-foot, 10-inch, 185-pound corner is still an extremely solid player.

Lockhart is ranked as the No. 33 best player at his position and 365th overall player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

After watching his junior film, it’s easy to see why Lockhart is one of the top players in the country. Find out below what we’ll see out of the Buckeyes’ newest commitment.

BOOM! Ohio State adds a second cornerback to its 2024 recruiting class

BOOM! The Buckeyes add yet another corner to their 2024 class #GoBucks

The 4th of July was two days ago, but there are still booms coming out of [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag]’s Woody Hayes Athletic Facility.

Today, Arizona cornerback [autotag]Miles Lockhart[/autotag] made his verbal commitment to the Buckeyes, giving them a second cornerback in the 2024 recruiting class. The 5-foot, 10-inch, 185-pound member of the secondary chose Ohio State over offers from Oregon, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, and others.

Lockhart is ranked as the No. 33 best cornerback and 365th overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is a track star as well and Ohio State was his only official visit prior to making his commitment.

The Ohio State 2024 recruiting class now has 18 total commitments and is ranked as the 2nd best according to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings.

Ohio State trending to add elite 2024 Arizona defensive back

Great news for the Buckeyes #GoBucks

Once again, it seems like we are a reporting broken record regarding [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] secondary recruiting. But after this past season, the need to add depth to the position to combat injuries and transfers continually rears its ugly head.

The corners struggled to stay on the field, and when they played the results were so-so at best. As a group, they didn’t record an interception all season. Buckeye cornerbacks coach [autotag]Tim Walton[/autotag] needs his position room to excel and that starts with players he and head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] can recruit to campus.

Enter Arizona cornerback [autotag]Miles Lockhart[/autotag], the 5-foot, 10-inch, 185-pound player who is rated the 37th best athlete and No. 298 overall player on the 247Sports composite. Lockhart was offered a scholarship last summer and will visit on the weekend of June 16.

That information was enough for two of 247Sports recruiting experts, Blair Angulo and Bill Kurelic, to put in crystal ball picks for Lockhart to end up committing to Ohio State.

It’s not a coincidence Lockhart is wearing an Ohio State headband while hoisting his state championship trophy.

If everything plays out the way the experts think it will, expect Lockhart to end up in the 2024 Buckeyes recruiting class.

Wisconsin offers four-star athlete from Arizona

The Badgers offered Miles Lockhart, a four-star class of 2024 athlete from Chandler, Arizona on Tuesday.

The Badgers offered Miles Lockhart, a four-star class of 2024 athlete from Chandler, Arizona on Tuesday. The 5-foot-10 junior at Basha High School has experience playing cornerback and running back and could be a difference maker for whatever collegiate program he ends up at.

Wisconsin was Lockhart’s 20th Division 1 offer, including Iowa and Ohio State within the Big Ten. Considering the addition of Luke Fickell at head coach, it doesn’t seem as far-fetched that the Badgers could potentially garner his commitment over the Buckeyes.

Four-star quarterback Mabrey Mettauer (The Woodlands, Texas) and cornerback Austin Alexander (Chicago Heights, Illinois) have already committed as a part of the Badgers’ class of 2024.

4-star ATH Miles Lockhart details trip to Eugene, calling Oregon visit ‘surreal’

Miles Lockhart is a 4-star ATH in 2024 who is teammates with Oregon commit Cole Martin. He came away from his visit impressed with the Ducks.

When you’ve been on recruiting visits to the Notre Dame’s and UCLA’s of the world, it’s pretty hard not to hold them in higher regard when going through the rest of your recruiting process. Any other school is going to have a hard time competing with the history and legacy that those campuses can present.

According to 2024 four-star ATH Miles Lockhart, though, the Oregon Ducks certainly made a good case during his weekend visit to Eugene.

“It was up there. It really was all the way up there with them,” Lockhart said. “Notre Dame is a very hard school to beat, but I think Oregon could have competed with them for sure with that visit.”

Lockhart is in an interesting position when it comes to his recruitment at Oregon. There are numerous ties pulling him to Eugene, be it one of his closest friends, Cole Martin, already committing to the Ducks in 2023, or Martin’s father Demetrice taking the cornerbacks coaching job with the Ducks.

As a prospect with 8 offers so far and counting, he will likely have his pick of the litter over the next couple of year while he narrows down his options. It’s hard to believe the Ducks, who he watched growing up, will be very far from that list.

We were lucky enough to catch up with Lockhart after his vist to Eugene and discuss his initial impressions of the Oregon campus, Dan Lanning’s coaching staff, and what sets the Ducks apart from other places that Miles has seen. Here is that conversation:
