Cody Garbrandt out of UFC Fight Night 247 bout vs. Miles Johns

Saturday’s UFC Vegas 100 event has lost its co-headliner.

UFC Fight Night 247 has lost its co-main event, with [autotag]Cody Garbrandt[/autotag] forced out of his bantamweight matchup vs. [autotag]Miles Johns[/autotag] on Saturday (ESPN+) at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

A person with knowledge of the matchup informed MMA Junkie of the change Wednesday but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Cole Shelton was first to report the news.

It’s unclear if Johns will remain on the card.

In his most recent outing this past April, Garbrandt (14-6 MMA, 9-6 UFC) was submitted by former flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 300. Prior to that, the 33-year-old scored back-to-back wins over Trevin Jones and Brian Kelleher.

Unbeaten in his past four appearances, 30-year-old Johns (15-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) is coming off two straight wins over Cody Gibson and Douglas Silva de Andrade in 2024.

Below is the current UFC Fight Night 247 lineup:

Miles Johns expects best Cody Garbrandt at UFC Fight Night 247, might try to emotionally bait him

Miles Johns has seen Cody Garbrandt get sucked into a fire fight before and hopes to do just that at UFC Fight Night 247.

[autotag]Miles Johns[/autotag] is here to fight the who’s who.

With a chip on his shoulder and an eagerness to further prove himself, Johns (15-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) enters the highest-profile fight of his life Nov. 9 at UFC Fight Night 247 when he takes on former bantamweight champion [autotag]Cody Garbrandt[/autotag].

Johns is dead set on getting better and bigger-named opponents each and every time from here on out. It begins with Garbrandt (14-6 MMA, 9-6 UFC), but other names are on the tip of his tongue, as well.

“For me, I take it one fight at a time,” Johns recently told MMA Junkie Radio. “So I’m super focused on Cody right now. It also made me realize I want to fight the who’s who. I want to fight the Pedro Munhozes, the Dominick Cruzes, the Rob Fonts. It seems like none of these prospects can take care of Font. I was thinking in my head, ‘Maybe I’ll be the one that can.’ Two have failed so far, two of these rising prospects. But I think I can be the one to do it.

“Who knows what will come next? Sean Shelby is very good at his job. I trust him. He seems like he keeps giving me the perfect test at the perfect time. We’ll see what happens. But hopefully this will set me up to fight the who’s who of the division. I’m not even so concerned about rankings. I want to be in the rankings. I feel like soon I’ll deserve to be in the rankings. But give me the names. Give me fights that have people getting excited for.”

Johns, 30, is 3-1 with one no contest in most recent four. The no contest was initially a win for Johns, but it was overturned after a failed drug test. However, the Nevada Athletic Commission adjusted allowable thresholds for DHMCT, the substance found in his system, between the time of his positive test and subsequent disciplinary action.

Garbrandt, 33, is 2-1 in his most recent three but is coming off a submission loss to Deiveson Figueiredo in April. The court of public opinion is not unanimous as to where Garbrandt is skill wise in his career, but Johns has some insider intel that’s boosted his confidence he’ll get the best “No Love” on fight night.

“I’m expecting Cody Garbrandt with something to prove,” Johns said. “He has a little bit of a legacy to leave. I hear he’s on the last fight of his UFC contract. I know that he’s had his ups and downs and stuff. He’s dealt with a lot of critique from fans in the MMA world. I don’t really listen to too much of that. People always say he has no chin. I’ve seen fights that he’s been in after he’s gotten knocked out where he did take a lot of punches and his chin did last. I just feel like he’s knowing this is his last fight on his UFC contract. He’s going to come with everything he has. That’s what I hope. I want to beat the best Cody Garbrandt. … I’m expecting the best Cody, and I plan to put the best Cody to sleep.”

Johns said emotional baiting could be in his repertoire during their bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. He’s seen Garbrandt get sucked into fire fights before and might attempt to charge him up into doing the same.

“I know he’s going to crack back,” Johns said. “I’m expecting for him to crack back. But I think if I get him up against the wall and I start putting some heat on him, he’s not going to like that. I want to make it an exciting fight. I want to make it a fight that the fans have fun watching and that they enjoy. We’ll see what happens. I know he’s also a little bit emotional. If he’s waiting a little bit and I tell him, ‘Come on, man. What are we waiting on? Let’s get this thing popping,’ I think he’ll oblige. But we’ll see.”

Former UFC champ Cody Garbrandt expected to return vs. Miles Johns

“No Love” has his next UFC bout scheduled for this fall.

“No Love” is back.

Former bantamweight champion [autotag]Cody Gabrandt[/autotag] and [autotag]Miles Johns[/autotag] have verbally agreed to fight at a UFC Fight Night event Oct. 12 at a location and venue to be announced.

Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the matchup but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Eurosport NL first reported the bout.

Garbrandt (14-6 MMA, 9-6 UFC) entered UFC 300 in April on a two-fight winning streak comprised of victories over Trevin Jones and Brian Kelleher. However, UFC 300 was Deiveson Figueiredo’s night, as he submitted Garbrandt in Round 2.

Johns (15-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) is 3-0 with one no contest in four fights with victories over Vince Morales, Cody Gibson, and Douglas Silva de Andrade. The no contest was initially a win over Dan Argueta. However, the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) overturned the result after a Johns drug test was flagged for M3 metabolite of DHMCT. The NAC increased the M3 metabolite threshold between the flagged test and the sanctions.

With the addition, the UFC Fight Night lineup for Oct. 12 includes:

  • Grant Dawson vs. Rafa Garcia
  • Cody Garbrandt vs. Miles Johns

Miles Johns: UFC Apex main event vs. Ricky Simon ‘would be kind of cool’

Miles Johns believes it’s time he headlines a UFC Fight Night show at the Apex in Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Miles Johns[/autotag] just competed in his fist UFC co-main event bout, and now he wants to step things up.

The UFC bantamweight called for a main event slot for a UFC Fight Night at the Apex following his win over Douglas Silva de Andrade this past Saturday at UFC on ESPN 58. Johns (15-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC), who defeated Silva de Andrade (29-6 MMA, 7-6 UFC) by decision, would like that headliner bout to be against veteran Ricky Simon, who’s currently scheduled to fight Vinicius Oliveira on June 29.

“Maybe Ricky Simon vs. Miles Johns in the Apex would be kind of cool, after Ricky beats this Oliveira dude,” Johns told MMA Junkie at the UFC on ESPN 58 post-fight press conference. “Maybe he will, maybe he won’t. We’ll see what happens.”

Johns knows his division is stacked, and that there are many possibilities for him to climb the ladder. He ideally wants Simon, but is not married to the idea.

“As much as I would like that fight, I’m not sure if Ricky is still top 15 or not,” Johns said. “There’s lots of matchups, and Sean (Shelby) does his job well, so I’m here for whatever.

“As good as I feel after a win, I always feel super happy, and I’m on a high, but I also have this pit in my stomach where I’m like, ‘Bro, bantamweight is full of monsters. You struggled to get the four wins in a row. How many can we make it? How many dice can we stack?’ And if you take an ‘L,’ that’s fine. You get back up and keep stacking. But it’s just a scary division to be in, so I’ll just be patient and see what comes next.”

As far as his win, Johns is happy to have defeated a seasoned fighter like Silva de Andrade. He’s proud of his performance but knows there’s plenty of room for improvement.

“I’m happy with that one,” Johns said. “I would’ve loved to put him away, but the dude is a tough dude and he has a warrior spirit. I knew that coming in, but I think when I go back and work on a few things, then I’ll start finding my finishes a little better. The only complaint that I have is that I didn’t put him away.”

Miles Johns vs. Douglas Silva de Andrade prediction, pick, start time, odds for UFC on ESPN 58

Miles Johns and Douglas Silva de Andrade compete in the new UFC on ESPN 58 co-feature. Will striking or grappling win the day?

[autotag]Miles Johns[/autotag] and [autotag]Douglas Silva de Andrade[/autotag] meet Saturday in the co-feature of UFC on ESPN 58 from UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Miles Johns vs. Douglas Silva de Andrade UFC on ESPN 58 preview

Johns (14-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) enters on the heels of a unanimous decision win over Cody Gibson in March. Prior to a no contest against Dan Argueta in September, Johns, 30, defeated Vince Morales by decision. His last loss preceded that outing, a submission setback vs. John Castaneda in February 2022. … De Andrade (29-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC) enters off a decision win over Cody Stamann last May. The 38-year-old lost the fight prior, dropping a decision to Said Nurmagomedov in July 2022.

Miles Johns vs. Douglas Silva de Andrade UFC on ESPN 58 expert pick, prediction

The impromptu co-main event in Las Vegas features a potential banger at bantamweight between Johns and de Andrade.

Despite Johns arguably being on a three-fight winning streak heading into this bout, I’m not sure I like this matchup for the fighter from the Midwest.

Johns is a respectable power puncher for the division, but de Andrade is arguably a bigger and more athletic version of the American and is difficult to put away.

Although Johns has been leaning more on his wrestling as of late, he doesn’t exactly score much from his positional work – typically spending large portions of entanglements fending off submissions.

For that reason, I suspect that Johns’ offensive wrestling will only open him up to opportunistic submissions opposite a fighter like de Andrade (who will also offer potent hooks and knees standing).

The pick is de Andrade by club-and-sub in Round 2.

Miles Johns vs. Douglas Silva de Andrade UFC on ESPN 58 odds

The oddsmakers and the public are slightly favoring the younger fighter, listing Johns as a slight favorite at -140 and de Andrade a small underdog at +110, via FanDuel.

Miles Johns vs. Douglas Silva de Andrade UFC on ESPN 58 start time, how to watch

As the co-feature bout, Johns and de Andrade are expected to make their walks to the octagon at approximately 12:05 p.m. ET. The fight broadcasts live on ESPN and streams on ESPN+.

UFC on ESPN 58: Douglas Silva de Andrade vs. Miles Johns odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 58 odds between Alex Perez and Tatsuro Taira, with MMA picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

In a 3-round bantamweight bout on the main card, Douglas Silva de Andrade and Miles Johns meet Saturday at UFC on ESPN 58 — also known as UFC Vegas 93 — at the UFC’s Apex Facility in Las Vegas. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the UFC on ESPN 58: Silva de Andrade vs. Johns odds, and make our expert picks and predictions.

The prelims begin at 7 p.m. ET and can be viewed on ESPN2/ESPN+, while the main card starts at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN2/ESPN+.

Records: Silva de Andrade (29-5-0) | Johns (14-2-0)

Silva de Andrade picked up a unanimous-decision win over Cody Stamann last time out May 13, 2023. He has ended up going the distance in 4 of his past 6 bouts, with the exception being a submission win over Sergey Morozov at UFC 271 in Feb. 2022, and a 1st-round KO/TKO against Gaetano Pirrello in Oct. 2021.

The 30-year-old Johns, fighting for Team Marathon MMA, has 2 unanimous-decisions wins sandwiching a no contest against Dan Argueta in the past 3 bouts. He had a UD win against Cody Gibson in his most recent showing in late March.

The 38-year-old Brazilian fighter, Silva de Andrade holds a 2.5-inch reach advantage over Johns. He also has a slight 3.66-to-3.28 significant strikes landed per minute advantage. Johns is much more accurate on those strikes, however, posting a 52.92% mark, while Silva de Andrade lands at just 42.63%.

  • Fight result (2-way line): Silva de Andrade +120 (bet $100 to win $120) | Johns -145 (bet $145 to win $100)
  • Will the fight go the distance? (Yes -150 | No +110)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

UFC on ESPN 58: Silva de Andrade vs. Johns picks and predictions

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

There is concern backing SILVA DE ANDRADE (+120) as the slight underdog. There could be some rust, as he makes his return after a 13-month layoff, and there are concerns about his cardio. But the good news is that this is just a 3-round bout, and not one of the 5-round variety.

Johns (-145) has won via unanimous decision in his past 2 victories, and he hasn’t lost since Feb. 5, 2022. However, Silva de Andrade is a big step up in competition, and Johns could find himself overwhelmed against the wily veteran.

Over/Under (O/U)

YES (-150): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? is the recommended play.

Johns has gone the distance in each of his past 3 fights, with 2 unanimous-decision wins and the no contest against Argueta.

For Silva de Andrade, he has gone the distance in 2 in a row and 4 of the past 6 fights.

Since we’re picking the Brazilian veteran, it’s a good idea to also go with SILVA DE ANDRADE BY DECISION (+325) for a chance to more than triple up.

Miles Johns expects a war with Douglas Silva de Andrade at UFC on ESPN 58

Miles Johns knows his opponent at UFC on ESPN 58 has a stellar resume that can’t be overlooked.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Miles Johns[/autotag] met the media Thursday ahead of his fight at UFC on ESPN 58.

Johns (14-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) takes on Douglas Silva de Andrade (29-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC) in a bantamweight fight on the ESPN main card at the UFC Apex. At the event’s media day, Johns took questions from media members before his fight.

And though he’s confident in what he can do against the Brazilian, Johns said there’s a reason he’s expecting a tough test against Silva de Andrade.

“Douglas is a very skilled opponent. He has a lot of heart. He has the warrior spirit. And the only people that have beat Douglas are top-tier guys,” Johns said. “And they’ve all said, ‘Man, that was a challenge.’ He’s going to go out there and he’s going to go out on his shield, no matter what.

“I do believe that if he’s throwing some naked kicks and he’s trying to throw his power, that I could time that – I could put his lights out. He gets hurt in a lot of his fights. But at the same time, I’m expecting to go through some adversity. I’m expecting him not to make this easy for me.”

Check out Johns’ full media day interview in the video above.
