Former MSU football DB headed to Western Michigan

A former MSU DB is headed to Western Michigan

Michael Gravely Jr. was a part of Mel Tucker’s first recruiting class in East Lansing, 2021. Following a short time on campus, an off the field issue caused Gravely, a 3-star from Cleveland, to transfer.

Upon transferring, Gravely spent time at DuPage College, and now has his new home. The former Spartan DB will be headed to Western Michigan, close to where his college career began.

Michael Gravely has found a new home, looking to get his football career back on track:

Michael Gravely Jr. was a member of Mel Tucker’s first recruiting class at Michigan State in 2021. Gravely came to the Spartans as a 3-star prospect from Cleveland, Ohio, attending Euclid High School.

Unfortunately, in his first season in East Lansing, an off the field issue forced the Cleveland native to leave the program without ever playing a game in the green and white.

Now, Gravely is looking to get his football career back on track, and will attend the College of Dupage this fall, a junior college in the NJCAA.

Check out how the transfer portal is shaking out for MSU in 2022

As many know, the transfer portal is set to be a huge part of Mel Tucker’s tenure at Michigan State. The new era of college football is centered around the use of the transfer portal. Tucker used the portal to flip a roster from a 2-5 season in his first year to an 11-2 season in year two, mainly in part to the additions through the transfer portal.

The transfer portal should be viewed as another form of recruiting, as a team will have two ‘recruiting classes’ per year, the traditional high school class and a transfer class.

Transfers do work both ways, while the team will add multiple players through the portal, losing players to the portal will also become a reality every season.

Take a look at how Michigan State’s 2022 transfer portal, both incoming and outgoing, looks like:

Another MSU DB has entered the transfer portal

Michigan State has lost another member of its football team to the transfer portal. This time, it is defensive back Michael Gravely who will be entering the transfer portal.

Gravely was a member of head coach Mel Tucker’s first recruiting class at Michigan State in 2021, coming from Euclid High School in Cleveland, Ohio.

Gravely did not see any action for the Spartans this season, and was not with the team either after an off-field incident kept him away from the team.

Gravely showed promise as a recruit, but will be showcasing those skills elsewhere.

Last week, Michigan State football head coach Mel Tucker confirmed rumors that sophomore wide receiver Ricky White and freshman defensive back Michael Gravely are not currently participating in team activities.

On Tuesday, Detroit Free Press reporter Chris Solari confirmed with the university that, while the two players are not with the team right now, they are still enrolled in fall classes at MSU.

Not much is known publicly outside of rumors for what the situation is there, but it will be an interesting story to follow this fall as Ricky White was one of the more promising offensive players last season.

We are just over a week away from Michigan State’s season opener against the Northwestern Wildcats. Fall camp is in full swing as MSU gears up for the 2021 campaign, the second season of the Mel Tucker era.

As the Spartan players prepare, they are doing so without two members of the team, as reveled by Coach Tucker. Freshman DB Michael Gravely and sophomore WR Ricky White are not currently participating in team activities.

Both players are still listed on the teams official roster. The reason about their absence is unknown at this time.

Looking at Michigan State Football’s early 2021 enrollees

Mel Tucker and Michigan State will have five early enrollees in the head mans first recruiting class of his tenure, the 2021 class.

January is here and Mel Tucker has just completed his first season as the head man of the Michigan State football program. With the end of the season here it also means the conclusion of the 2021 recruiting class is soon to come, Tucker’s first in East Lansing.

A big part of a recruiting class is finding some members to enroll early, joining the team in January for the offseason strength and conditioning program. It is a huge step for recruits to make if they have a desire to play early in their college careers.

Mel Tucker currently has 19 members in his first recruiting class at Michigan State, the class of 2021, and five have announced their intentions to enroll early this January. Lets look at who they are:
