Titans promote Kyle Peko, waive Jayden Peevy among 3 moves

The Titans made a trio of moves on Tuesday.

The Tennessee Titans made a trio of moves on Tuesday, with two having to do with the active roster.

The team announced it has promoted defensive lineman Kyle Peko from the practice squad to the 53-man roster while also waiving fellow defensive lineman Jayden Peevy.

In addition, the team released veteran defensive lineman Michael Dwumfour from the practice squad. Chances are Peevy will be brought back in his place once he clears waivers but that has not been confirmed.

A 2022 undrafted free-agent signing, Peevy was an offseason darling and was one of head coach Mike Vrabel’s offseason award winners before making the initial 53-man roster.

However, he was inactive in Week 1 and played just four defensive snaps in Week 2.

Peko, who is in his second stint with Tennessee after playing in eight games (three starts) with the Titans in 2021, has played a total of 49 snaps over two games, including 27 in Week 2. He was the preferred choice off the bench over both Peevy and Naquan Jones.

Titans agree to terms with DL Michael Dwumfour among 2 moves

The Titans have added another defensive lineman.

The Tennessee Titans made a pair of roster moves on Wednesday, one of which included the signing of defensive lineman Michael Dwumfour.

To make room for Dwumfour, the Titans waived outside linebacker Zach McCloud, the team announced.

A former undrafted free-agent signing of the New York Jets in 2021, the Rutgers product has appeared in 12 games (one start) during his career, 10 coming with the Houston Texans and two with the San Francisco 49ers, which gives him the Ran Carthon connection.

In 2022, Dwumfour played in seven contests with the Texans before being waived. He was then added to the 49ers’ practice squad and took part in two games for San Fran. In total, Dwumfour had eight tackles, three QB hits and one fumble recovery over nine games last season.

Dwumfour is the second defensive lineman the Titans have inked this week, with the team also bringing back veteran Kyle Peko. The Titans recently lost UDFA Shakel Brown for the season and fellow lineman Naquan Jones has missed several practices in a row.

Browns release DT Michael Dwumfour to make room for Shelby Harris

The Browns have made their subsequent roster move to make room for Shelby Harris

The Cleveland Browns upgraded their defensive tackle room a day ago, adding veteran Shelby Harris to round out their overhaul. Unfortunately, however, when a player is added a subsequent release has to happen to make room for that player. To clear a roster spot for Harris, the Browns have released another defensive tackle in the form of Michael Dwumfour.

Signed this offseason, predominantly as a camp body after a stint with the Houston Texans, Dwumfour failed to make an impact in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game.

As the Browns get set to take on the Washington Commanders, it is unlikely we see Harris, but others will have a chance to prove their worth.

As the Cleveland Browns scrape for any possible solution to solve their defensive tackle crisis, they have signed another to a futures deal in the form of Michael Dwumfour. The second-year defensive tackle out of Rutgers is listed at 6-foot-1 and 296 pounds and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Jets following the 2021 NFL Draft.

Throughout his two years, Dwumfour has started one game and has appeared in 12 for both the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers. In limited appearances, Dwumfour has racked up a total of .5 sacks, two tackles for loss, and six hits on opposing quarterbacks.

The Texans made a waiver claim for former Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth. The 6-2, 305-pounder played six games for the Chiefs in 2022, logging four combined tackles on 53 defensive snaps.

Stallworth spent 32 games with the Indianapolis Colts from 2020-21 and generated 16 combined tackles, 3.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, 13 quarterback hits, a pass breakup, and a fumble recovery.

Texans make 4 roster moves ahead of Week 11 matchup with Washington

The Houston Texans made four roster moves ahead of their Week 11 showdown with Washington.

The Houston Texans made a total of four roster moves ahead of their Week 11 tilt with Washington Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central Time at NRG Stadium.

The first move was to activate defensive end Michael Dwumfour from injured reserve. The 6-1, 296-pound defensive end had not been active since Week 5 at the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Houston also declared defensive backs Cobi Francis and Will Redmond as their two standard elevations from the practice squad.

The Texans released defensive tackle Jaleel Johnson. The 6-3, 316-pounder tallied 1.0 sack, five combined tackles, a quarterback hit, and a fumble recovery through three games, one of which he started. Johnson logged 12 games with Houston in 2021.

Texans hope Colts RB Jonathan Taylor gets lost in ‘jungle’ along interior defensive line

The Houston Texans interior DL refers to their unit as the “jungle,” and they hope Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor has a hard time in Week 1.

The 1987 debut album of the rock band Guns N’Roses featured a song that would become an instant classic titled “Welcome To The Jungle.”

In the song’s second verse, lead singer Axl Rose has two lines that describe the Houston Texans’ interior defensive linemen’s mindset as they prepare to open their season against the Indianapolis Colts.

“Welcome to the jungle; we take it day by day.

If you want it, you’re going to bleed, but it’s the price you pay.”

Come Sunday at NRG Stadium, the Texans hope to make the Colts ante up by collecting a victory that alluded Houston last season as Indianapolis won both matchups.

“They dominated us at their place and at home,” said head coach Lovie Smith during his weekly press conference. “We do remember that, but talk can’t get it done.”

Talking is the last thing defensive linemen Maliek Collins, Roy Lopez, Kurt Hinish, and Michael Dwumfour want to do when they line up against one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.

“We always joke around and call it, ‘The Jungle,’” said rookie Kurt Hinish when asked about playing in the middle of the defensive line. “If you are going to be in the jungle you have to be a bad dude. You got to show up and bring it every snap.”

One player that always brings it is Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, who led the NFL in rushing last season with 1,181 yards. Two hundred ninety-eight of those yards came in the two games against the Texans. Houston knows the importance of this game as it serves as not only the 2022 season opener but also their first divisional game.

“They take pride in who they are,” said Roy Lopez after practice on Wednesday. “This is one of those games where you just strap up, line up, and go to work.
