2024 Presidents Cup merchandise shop: Hockey sweaters, maple leafs and poutine, oh my

Here’s a look at some of our favorite gear available at the Boutique Officielle.

MONTREAL, Canada — With music thumping, the merchandise shop was jumping at the 2024 Presidents Cup on Thursday afternoon. Or as the locals here call it, the Boutique Officielle.

I counted at least two dozen different brands selling gear ranging from USA and International versions of hockey sweaters from Adidas to colorful polos from Peter Millar, Greyson, Johnnie-O among others. The T-shirt game was strong to very strong with lots of playful use of the Maple Leaf, poutine and even a moose. There were hats from Imperial, Ahead and ’47, plus hot new brands like Holderness & Bourne, B Draddy and Lululemon.

There are some goodies in Napa.

Napa, Calif. — Let’s just say this isn’t one of the better selections of PGA Tour tournament gear this season. But we’re going to cut the Procore Championship some slack as the title sponsor wasn’t announced until July 31. That may explain why there is limited apparel options this week.

In past years, there has been a stand-alone merchandise shop but this year all the gear is being sold inside the Silverado Resort pro shop. The Silverado shop is top notch and they are selling staples such as FootJoy, Greyson, Johnnie-O, TravisMathew, Peter Millar, Polo RX, Lululemon and G/Fore. For the ladies there’s cool stuff from Foray and San Soleil. From Napa head covers to wine bottle caps, the local vibe is ever present. Here’s a look at some of the best gear available at the inaugural Procore Championship.

BMW Championship 2024 merch photos: John Elway head cover and a $98 cap — yes $98! — among the unique items in Denver

The merch tent at the BMW is loaded with goodies.

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — The days of the BMW Championship being a fixture in the Windy City are long gone, so, each year as the second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs hopscotches around the country, the tournament merchandise shop leans into its latest locale. This year, that means a Rocky Mountain high, including shirts touting the course being at an elevation of 6,305 feet. But the love-it-or-hate-it item is the John Elway head cover by Swag Golf.

The BMW merchandise shop is a good mix of brands. Always fun to see Kjus for men and Foray Golf for women along with staples such as Peter Millar.

The Castle Pines logo is a pair of hummingbirds — the club address is on Hummingbird Drive — and there are several items for sale that feature the logo. Inside the clubhouse, the Hummingbird-logoed cap is being sold for $98. Whoa! As Al Czervik once said in Caddyshack, “when you buy a hat like this I bet you get a free bowl of soup, huh?”

Here’s a look at some of our favorite merchandise on sale this week.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Wyndham Championship is celebrating its 85th anniversary this week and the tournament, formerly known as the Greater Greensboro Open or simply the GGO for short, is leaning into its history —as it should.

That goes for the merchandise shop too. One of the best shirts on sale features the faces of Hall of Famers Sam Snead, an eight-time winner of the tournament, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Billy Casper, Seve Ballesteros, Lanny Watkins and Davis Love III, Hall of Famers one and all, as well as champions of more recent vintage in two-time winner Brandt Snedeker, local product Webb Simpson and defending champion Lucas Glover.

The Wyndham Championship and host Sedgefield Country Club have a pretty good mix of merchandise, including a strong belt game, some fun head covers playing off the state’s First in Flight license plate and an impressive mix of tumblers.

2024 British Open merchandise shop: Postage stamps, Claret Jugs and ‘Quiet Please’ among gear that overwhelm the senses

Here’s the best gear at Royal Troon.

TROON, Scotland — Bigger doesn’t always mean better but in the case of the merchandise shop at the 152nd British Open, a colossal structure situated in the vicinity of the third and 16th holes at Royal Troon, it could’ve been bigger but not sure it could’ve been much better. It has to rival Augusta National for the best shop in golf.

The line on Wednesday afternoon on a day baked in glorious sunshine —a good day for ice cream sales nearby —had a Disney-esque feel to it that nearly scared me off but it moved quicker than TSA at Edinburgh International Airport. Inside, Boss, the official apparel company of the Open, receives the best real estate in the front entrance but the championship is otherwise very brand agnostic. The list of companies hawking their wares is too long to name but the point is you had options. Actually, options galore and such items as a logoed doggy bowl for the pets, an assortment of stuffed animals for the kiddos and limited-edition whiskey for the thirsty.

They also leaned into the traditional yellow and blue of its scoreboard, the Claret Jug logo, tartan, the ever-popular “Quiet Please” signs and the Postage Stamp, which is a nice touch.

Other than feeling a bit claustrophobic, it was an enjoyable shopping experience right down to the lady who volunteered to run back behind the curtain and find my size.

Mac Jones, Kenny Pickett sold more official merch than Derek Carr did in 2023

Mac Jones and Kenny Pickett were benched and later traded, but the NFLPA says they still sold more licensed merchandise in the last year than Derek Carr:

New Orleans Saints fans haven’t exactly embraced Derek Carr. They’ve kept high standards at quarterback after enjoying so many years of Drew Brees’ excellence, and their hesitance to support Carr after he failed to lead the team to the playoffs may have felt warranted.

That lukewarm reception was backed up by the NFL Players Association annual report on licensed merchandise sales, which didn’t include Carr inn its top 50. Here are the criteria:

The NFLPA Top 50 Player Sales List is the only verified ranking of all officially licensed, NFL player-branded merchandise sold from online and traditional retail outlets as reported by over 85 NFLPA licensees such as Fanatics, Outerstuff, Nike, Fathead, FOCO and Funko. Licensed product categories included trading cards, men’s, women’s and youth game jerseys, T-shirts and hoodies, backpacks, wall decals, pennants, collectible figurines, matted and framed photos, bobbleheads, plush, drinkware, pet products, and many more

While Carr didn’t make the cut, other quarterbacks did — and several of them were benched by the teams they played for last year, traded after the season, or both. Mac Jones was sidelined by the New England Patriots after stumbling to a 2-9 record, and later traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he clocked in at No. 50. Both of the quarterbacks the Pittsburgh Steelers acquired in trades this offseason made the list (Russell Wilson at No. 42, Justin Fields at No. 31), as did their own former first-round quarterback bust Kenny Pickett (No. 34).

So if it felt like there weren’t many Carr jerseys inside the Caesars Superdome last year, you were probably right. Carr needs to do better than what we saw from him last year to win Saints fans over. Another year without reaching the playoffs and on-field chirping with his coaches and teammates won’t convince anyone he’s worth supporting with an autographed photo, refrigerator magnet, or even a trading card. Hopefully he’s up to the challenge.

Man charged with illegal transport of Masters merchandise, memorabilia taken from Augusta National

Richard Globensky was charged with transporting millions of dollars worth of stolen merch over a 13-year period.

Masters merchandise is some of the most coveted gear in the sports world, and it’s got one man in some potentially hot water.

According to a Tuesday filing in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Richard Globensky has been charged with transporting millions of dollars worth of Masters merchandise and memorabilia over a 13-year period from 2009-2022 from Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia across state lines to Tampa, Florida, “knowing the same had been stolen, converted and taken by fraud.”

If convicted, Globensky would forfeit any property and cash from proceeds traced to the stolen items. Augusta National has yet to comment on the case.

Last weekend saw Scottie Scheffler win his second Masters in three years by four shots over Ludvig Aberg in the 88th playing of the annual event.

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am 2024 merch: Retro T’s, lone cypress logo in hot demand

Check out the best merch here.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Pebble Beach Golf Links’s lone cypress logo is one of the best in the business.

The resort and the shops near the practice putting green are well aware that the logo is in hot demand and you have an endless array of options of logoed gear from just about any apparel maker you can think of. This is a well-stocked space and there’s also a pop-up AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am shop to go with a merchandise shop near the 17th hole.

The Lone Cypress Shop has just about everything, including the robe available in guest rooms at The Lodge and Pebble Beach spa products. I was digging some of the retro T-shirts, Vineyard Vines belts, the stuffed animal seal for my daughter and an old-school tournament pennant, which I haven’t seen for a long time.

Here’s a look at some of the merchandise on display this week at The Lone Cypress Shop and pop-up tournament shop at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
