Man charged with illegal transport of Masters merchandise, memorabilia taken from Augusta National

Richard Globensky was charged with transporting millions of dollars worth of stolen merch over a 13-year period.

Masters merchandise is some of the most coveted gear in the sports world, and it’s got one man in some potentially hot water.

According to a Tuesday filing in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Richard Globensky has been charged with transporting millions of dollars worth of Masters merchandise and memorabilia over a 13-year period from 2009-2022 from Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia across state lines to Tampa, Florida, “knowing the same had been stolen, converted and taken by fraud.”

If convicted, Globensky would forfeit any property and cash from proceeds traced to the stolen items. Augusta National has yet to comment on the case.

Last weekend saw Scottie Scheffler win his second Masters in three years by four shots over Ludvig Aberg in the 88th playing of the annual event.

New logos, old Texas roots on display in 2024 Valero Texas Open merchandise shop

The event is boasting a revamped logo scheme, one that leans even heavier into the tournament’s Texas roots.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Now more than a century old, the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio has done some moving in its day.

The tournament — which was previously held at Brackenridge Park, Willow Springs, Fort Sam Houston, Oak Hills Country Club and La Cantera before settling on its current home at TPC San Antonio — started Thursday with one of the strongest fields in decades. Among those vying for the title are world No. 2 Rory McIlroy, Ludvig Aberg, Matt Fitzpatrick, Max Homa, Collin Morikawa, past champion Jordan Spieth, two-time champ Corey Conners and many others looking to get their final Masters prep in.

But while the venue has changed, the logos associated with the tournament have only seen some minor tweaks through the years. That changed in 2024, however, as the merchandise tent is boasting a number of new items and a revamped logo scheme, one that leans even heavier into the tournament’s Texas roots. Some of this is available online but the head covers are exclusive to this shop just off the 18th fairway at the Oaks Course.

Here’s a look at what’s available at the merchandise tent this week:

Houston Astros colors blanket merchandise tent at 2024 Texas Children’s Houston Open

What a week to be a resident of Houston.

What a week to be a resident of Houston.

Not only is the PGA Tour’s 2024 Texas Children’s Houston Open in town, the Astros have their Opening Day game Thursday afternoon against the New York Yankees, and the Houston Cougars men’s basketball team is in the Sweet 16 of March Madness.

Sports are awesome, aren’t they?

But the Houston Astros have their fingerprints all over the Houston Open at Memorial Park Golf Course, a municipal facility about 5 miles west of downtown. The Astros Golf Foundation runs the tournament, and the logo has the same colors as do the Major League Baseball team.

The merchandise tent also has a heavy Astros flair, with orange, blue and white shirts, hats, pullovers and plenty more.

Arnold Palmer Invitational still in a class by itself for best PGA Tour merchandise

To borrow a phrase from Stuart Scott, Arnold Palmer was cooler than the other side of the pillow.

ORLANDO — To borrow a phrase from the late ESPN host Stuart Scott, Arnold Palmer was cooler than the other side of the pillow. So is the gear on sale at this year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational in the merchandise shop as well as the club’s permanent pro shop at Bay Hill Club & Lodge.

Palmer’s multi-color logo is ever-present and used to great effect. Kudos go to Puma, who have delivered another unique line for tournament week, from shirts to hats to shoes.

But there’s a great mix of Ahead and Imperial hats and the pro shop features everything from Peter Millar to Johnny-O and women’s favorite, Ibkul. High marks across the board but nothing tops the head covers in my book. Here’s some of the best stuff available at the API merchandise shop and Bay Hill pro shop.

Golf and trading cards? LIV Golf signs new partnership with Panini

The move marks Panini’s first foray into golf after 60-plus years in the sports collectibles space.

Since its inception, LIV Golf hasn’t been afraid to try new things.

The league announced its latest partnership on Thursday morning, a multi-year deal with trading card company, Panini. The move marks Panini’s first foray into golf after 60-plus years in the sports collectibles space.

Products aren’t yet available, but physical trading cards will be released under the Prizm and Impeccable brands in the third quarter of this year according to Sports Business Journal, who was first to report the news. In the future, Panini will also launch an instant card program, where real-time cards will be released after tournaments that feature highlights from the season. Team card sets can be pre-ordered now.

“We have often thought about how to introduce some of our most popular trading card brands to golf, but the sport always had challenges. LIV Golf brought in a whole new dynamic into the sport with their fresh, unique and innovative approach,” said Panini America CEO Mark Warsop. “The team and league format aligns itself to something that did not exist that creates another level of collectability for fans.”

The league returns to play next week in Saudi Arabia with LIV Golf Jeddah, March 1-3, at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City.

Photos: Merchandise from the Genesis Invitational and one of the best pro shops in the country

It is in the club’s pro shop where the cash register is working overtime this week.

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — You won’t find a better-stocked pro shop in the country than at Riviera Country Club. The Genesis Invitational merchandise shop has a few goodies too but could be doubled in size. It’s a wee bit claustrophobic.

But it is in the club’s pro shop where the cash register is working overtime this week. Fans are bunching up in there too in search of the distinctive ‘R’ logo and the ever-popular Riv gear. The club features a United Nations of brands and a really good mix of gear by someone who has a good eye for fashion and the latest styles.

Down the hill between the first and second fairway is the tournament merchandise shop, which also has good variety among TravisMathew, Nike, Peter Millar, Tasc, Levelwear and even local brand Bogey Boys from rapper Macklemore. Some fun T-shirts, Tiger stuffed animals and colorful caps among the top picks this week.

Here’s a look at the merchandise gear on sale this week at the tournament and the clubhouse shop.

Photos: Must-have golf gear at the 2024 WM Phoenix Open merchandise tent

The 25,000-square-foot fan shop is a must-do for anyone visiting TPC Scottsdale.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Hats, hats and more hats. Shirts, pullovers, hoodies and zip-ups. Pin flags, ball marker and divot tools.

The 2024 WM Phoenix Open merchandise tent, all 25,000-square-feet of it, opened for business Monday, the first day fans could be on the grounds at TPC Scottsdale.

Some of the best gifts, though, are the 16th hole stadium 3D replica made out of wood, the 16th hole 3D coasters, the silicone golf-ball ice cube maker and the really cool Christmas tree ornaments.

Nike, lululemon, Malbon, Greyson, Puma, Bad Birdie, Peter Millar, Aviator Nation, Phoenix Surf Club and Barstool Golf all have promiment displays for their high-end golf attire.

Located in a can’t-miss spot down the hill from the clubhouse and the first tee, the fan shop is a must-do for fans visiting the tournament. Just be sure to give yourself about an hour or so to peruse it all.

The merch at Torrey Pines in the pro shop and fan village offers a little something for everyone.

SAN DIEGO — The coastal theme is spread far and wide around both the merchandise tent in the fan village and the Torrey Pines pro shop at the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open.

Surfboards and palm trees are plastered all over the hats, polos, t-shirts and quarter zips for sale. There’s also an impressive amount of headcover designs that feature beach themes, California landmarks or a mix of both. Some of the items, such as a mesh-back hat with a magnet on the brim for a ball mark, will cost you as much as $85. Welcome to California, right?
