Report: Oral Roberts G Max Abmas to visit Texas on Wednesday

One of the top rated players in the transfer portal is visiting Rodney Terry and Texas.

One of the top rated players in the transfer portal is visiting Rodney Terry and Texas this week. Jeff Goodman reports Oral Roberts transfer Max Abmas is going to check out the Texas basketball program.

Abmas is a high-impact scorer. He’s totaled over 2,500 career points, averaging over 20 points per game in his last three seasons at Oral Roberts. He has four years of college basketball experience, including spearheading a Sweet 16 run in the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

Texas has been quiet on the transfer portal front so far this offseason. The Longhorns have missed a few key targets and watched Arterio Morris and Rowan Brumbaugh head out the door.

Abmas would be a huge piece of the puzzle for Texas basketball in 2023. The Longhorns replace guards Marcus Carr, Sir’Jabari Rice and await Tyrese Hunter’s NBA Draft status.

Jerome Tang and Kansas State are a factor, but Texas looks to make a strong impression on Abmas’ visit.

Texas and Kansas State in the mix for Oral Roberts transfer Max Abmas

It could be a two-team race for star transfer Max Abmas.

It could be a two-team race for star transfer Max Abmas. Texas and Kansas State continue their pursuit of the Oral Roberts standout.

Abmas is one of the top scorers in the transfer portal to date. He has scored over 2,500 points at the college level, averaging over 21 points per game in each of the last three seasons.

He was the star of Oral Roberts’ Cinderella run in the 2021 NCAA Tournament. The Golden Eagles entered as a No. 15 seed before upsetting Ohio State and Florida on the way to the Sweet Sixteen. Abmas helped lead ORU back to March Madness this season, winning 30 games in the process.

247Sports ranks Abmas as the No. 3 overall player available in the transfer portal.

Texas has been on the bad side of the transfer portal thus far, losing Arterio Morris and Rowan Brumbaugh in the last week. Abmas could be the first domino to fall in favor of Rodney Terry and the Longhorns this offseason.
