Philadelphia Eagles’ winners and losers from the 2021 NFL draft

Philadelphia Eagles’ winners and losers from the 2021 NFL draft

The 2021 NFL draft is over and despite the Eagles earning one of the higher graded classes overall, several players in Philadelphia were impacted by how things worked out.

Winners and losers are a yearly debate and we’ve highlighted a few Eagles who were on both sides of the outcome.

Philadelphia Eagles 2021 offseason: 9 players who could be released for salary cap reasons

Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, Malik Jackson, and Derek Barnett lead a list of players the Eagles could release for salary cap purposes.

With looming salary cap issues needing to be addressed during the 2021 NFL offseason, the Eagles could part ways with about 15-20 players on the current roster.

Philadelphia currently has 67 players under contract for 2021 and moving on from some big named, costly, or older veterans could save the Eagles millions before the start of free agency.

The Eagles may not be significant players in the 2021 portion of NFL free agency, but roster cuts and a rebuild are necessary and we’ve listed 10-players who could be cap casualties.

Matt Pryor to start at RT for Eagles vs. the Cardinals

Versatile offensive lineman Matt Pryor will start at right tackle for the Eagles in place of the injured Jack Driscoll

The Eagles injury woes continued on Monday when it was determined that Jack Driscoll’s season would be over after he suffered an MCL sprain against the Saints.

With Driscoll out, veteran hybrid lineman, Matt Pryor, will take over at right tackle against the Cardinals.

Pryor will make his eighth start of the season against the Cardinals, and it will be his second at right tackle, after previously starting against the Seahawks.

This will be the 13th different offensive line combination in 14 games for the Eagles.

Jack Driscoll to miss rest of the Philadelphia Eagles’ season with an MCL injury

Eagles RT Jack Driscoll to miss the rest of the season with an MCL injury

The Eagles will be without rookie right tackle Jack Driscoll for the remainder of the 2020 NFL season after suffering an MCL injury against the Saints per Mike Garafalo.

Philadelphia beat the Saints 24-21 without giving up a sack and with Driscoll at right tackle and Jalen Hurts at quarterback.

Driscoll had started two previous games this season and got extended playing time in two others when Johnson was hurt.

Driscoll was originally selected by the Eagles in the fourth round (145th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft.

On Monday, the Eagles agreed to sign offensive lineman Ross Pierschbacher from Washington’s practice squad.

Pierschbacher was a fifth-round pick of the Football Team in 2019 out of Alabama, playing in five games as a reserve in his rookie season.

Pierschbacher signed with the Football Team’s practice squad after being waived at the end of Training Camp.

Jack Driscoll is an intriguing offensive line prospect and with the Eagles set for a rebuild, Howie Roseman and company have to see what they have in the versatile rookie.

With Philadelphia looking to get their five best offensive linemen on the field for Sunday’s game against Green Bay and on Friday, head coach Doug Pederson confirmed that Jack Driscoll will get the start at right tackle.

You can never question the toughness of Jason Peters and despite having what was described as a “broken, dislocated toe”, the Eagles’ right guard will start against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football per Adam Schefter.

Peters was moved to right guard after the Eagles decided to shut Lane Johnson down to have ankle surgery.

With Peters moving, Jordan Mailata returned to left tackle and Matt Pryor will slide down to right tackle to compensate for the loss of Lane Johnson.

Shaun Bradley and Rudy Ford missed practice, while Fletcher Cox (rest) and Jason Peters (rest) were limited participants.

Zach Ertz and Isaac Seumalo have returned to Eagles practice but both have yet to officially be removed from injured reserve so they weren’t listed as active participants.

Eagles RT Lane Johnson now questionable for Sunday night vs. the Cowboys

Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson is now listed as questionable for Sunday night against the Cowboys with a knee injury

It could be rain or tightness in his knee, but after being a full participant in Friday’s final practice of the week, Lane Johnson is now listed as questionable for Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys.

Johnson has been nursing an ankle injury since the start of the season and during the Eagles Thursday night win over the New York Giants, he was forced to leave with an MCL injury.

If Johnson can’t play, Jordan Mailata will move back into the starting lineup at right tackle after being moved to the bench in favor of Jason Peters, who was activated off of injured reserve.
