8 things we learned from the Seahawks’ first unofficial depth chart of 2023

While it’s unofficial, it’s still illuminating.

The Seattle Seahawks have released their first unofficial depth chart of the 2023 season ahead of Thursday night’s preseason debut against the Minnesota Vikings.

While it’s only an unofficial depth chart, it’s still illuminating regarding their plans. Here are eight things we learned from Seattle’s first depth chart of the year.

Former Arkansas wideout Matt Landers signs with Seattle

Landers turned his one season in Fayetteville into an NFL shot.

Matt Landers spent just one year with Arkansas. It was an impressive year.

So impressive, in fact, Landers earned himself onto an NFL training camp roster. The former Razorbacks wide receiver signed a free-agent deal with the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday.

The transfer from Toledo caught 47 passes for 901 yards and seven touchdowns for Arkansas last year. The latter two totals were the highest on the team. He transferred to Toledo after starting his career at Georgia, then finished his final season in Fayetteville.

At 6-4 and having run a 4.37-second 40-year dash, Landers’ athleticism was intriguging to several teams and he was considered a potential late-round pick. Landers will join former Toledo wideout Cody Thompson as part of the camp.

Broncos had a virtual pre-draft visit with WR Matt Landers

After totaling 47 receptions for 901 yards and 8 TDs in 2022, Matt Landers is projected to be a late-round pick in the NFL draft.

The Denver Broncos recently had a virtual pre-draft visit with Arkansas wide receiver Matt Landers, according to The Draft Network’s Justin Melo.

Landers (6-4, 200 pounds) ran a 40-yard dash in 4.37 seconds and a 10-yard split in 1.51 seconds at the NFL combine. That kind of speed with Landers’ size turned heads among NFL scouts.

Landers started his college career at Georgia, playing sparingly for the Bulldogs from 2019-2020. He then transferred to Toledo in 2021 and caught 20 receptions for 514 yards and five touchdowns.

Landers transferred a third time ahead of the 2022 season, joining the Razorbacks for his senior campaign. Landers totaled 47 receptions for 901 yards and eight touchdowns in 13 games with Arkansas last fall.

Landers is now projected to be a late-round pick or undrafted free agent candidate later this month. Denver’s latest pick in the draft (barring a trade down) is set to be No. 195 overall in the sixth round.

If the Broncos to not make a selection in the seventh round, the team might try to target Landers as a UDFA prospect after the draft.

15 late-round prospects Broncos could target in 2023 NFL draft

Here’s a quick look at 15 late-round prospects the Broncos could target in the 2023 NFL draft.

The Denver Broncos do not have first- or second-round picks to use in the 2023 NFL draft, so in order to have a great class (barring a trade up), general manager George Paton will have to find gems in the mid and late rounds of the draft.

The Broncos currently have five draft picks: Nos. 67 and 68 overall in the third round, No. 108 in the fourth, No. 139 in the fifth and No. 195 in the sixth. Denver does not currently hold a pick in the seventh round, but the club might acquire additional picks through draft-day trades.

Paton has made six trades through his first two drafts with the Broncos, trading down four times. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him trade down again this year to add more picks.

Today, we’re taking a quick look at 15 prospects that Denver could target in the fifth, sixth and seventh (late rounds) of the 2023 NFL draft.

Bengals met with Arkansas WR Matt Landers before 2023 NFL draft

A notable WR workout for the Bengals before the draft.

The Cincinnati Bengals feel like a team that could surprise by adding a wideout in the 2023 NFL draft.

Cincinnati likes to draft needs one year in advance and has to think about Tyler Boyd’s contract that has one year left on it, never mind just generally wanting to upgrade the depth.

That latter point might explain a meeting with Arkansas wideout Matt Landers, as reported by The Draft Network’s Justin Melo.

Landers is a massive target for an offense and that showed last year when he caught 47 passes for 901 yards and eight scores (19.2 yards per catch). The Bengals aren’t exactly hurting to find boundary targets, but with the coaches playing Ja’Marr Chase in the slot more last year, another big body for depth and certain situations could be a welcome addition.

Arkansas football: 14 Razorbacks set to participate in Pro Day on Wednesday

Here’s a look at the 14 former Hogs who will participate in Arkansas’ Pro Day on Wednesday. Some names might surprise Razorback fans.

NFL scouts from all 32 teams will be present in Fayetteville on Wednesday as the Arkansas Razorbacks will host their official Pro Day.

There are 14 former Razorbacks officially set to participate including five who took part in the NFL Combine nearly a month ago. Those five include wide receivers [autotag]Jadon Haselwood[/autotag] and [autotag]Matt Landers[/autotag], offensive linemen [autotag]Ricky Stromberg[/autotag] and [autotag]Dalton Wagner[/autotag] and linebacker [autotag]Drew Sanders[/autotag].

A handful of Razorbacks from years past will also be in attendance to workout in front of pro scouts. That group includes linebacker Martrell Spaight, defensive lineman Bijhon Jackson, wide receiver Tyson Morris and long snapper Jordan Silver.

Things are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Here’s a quick rundown of all 14 Razorbacks that will be participating.

2023 NFL Combine results for Jadon Haselwood

Arkansas WR Jadon Haselwood participated in the NFL Combine over the weekend. Here’s a breakdown of his official results.

The 2023 NFL Combine took place over the weekend in Indianapolis and five former Arkansas Razorbacks were in attendance.

Arkansas’ top two wide receivers from last season – [autotag]Matt Landers[/autotag] and [autotag]Jadon Haselwood[/autotag] – were invited and participated in this weekend’s events. While Landers turned quite a few heads with some of his results, Haselwood struggled to make the same impression as his former Razorback teammate. He did have one very impressive fingertip catch on a pass from TCU quarterback Max Duggan, but that was one of his only highlights on the weekend.

Haselwood was a five-star prospect out of high school who attended Oklahoma for three years before transferring and playing one season at Arkansas. In his lone season, he struggled to make a consistent impact in the Razorbacks’ passing game, but did finish the season with 59 catches for 702 yards and three touchdowns.

Here’s all of his official results from the 2023 NFL Combine over the weekend. NOTE: Haselwood did not participate in the bench press event.

Arkansas WR Matt Landers impresses scouts at 2023 NFL Combine

Arkansas WR Matt Landers turned some heads at the 2023 NFL Combine. Here’s all of his official results from this weekend.

The 2023 NFL Combine took place over the weekend in Indianapolis and five former Arkansas Razorbacks were in attendance.

Linebacker [autotag]Drew Sanders[/autotag], wide receivers [autotag]Jadon Haselwood[/autotag] and [autotag]Matt Landers[/autotag] and offensive linemen [autotag]Dalton Wagner[/autotag] and [autotag]Ricky Stromberg[/autotag] all participated in drills over the weekend in front of scouts from all 32 NFL teams.

Matt Landers was projected to be a mid-to-late round pick in April’s draft after his lone season at Arkansas, but after this weekend he may have helped his draft stock. Landers turned heads by running the third-fastest 40-yard dash time among wide receivers. He even got a shoutout from the NFL’s official Twitter account after his second attempt.

In his only season with the Razorbacks, Landers became a favorite target for quarterback [autotag]KJ Jefferson[/autotag] and finished the year with 47 receptions for 901 yards and eight touchdowns. With his 6-foot-4 frame and blazing quick speed, it’s hard to see a team not taking a chance on Landers much earlier than expected.

Arkansas finished its regular season in a tough way at Missouri on Friday.

The regular season is finished for the Arkansas football team. To some it ended too fast, before the Razorbacks could get fully into their style. To others, the end couldn’t come fast enough.

More lately have been on the latter boat. Arkansas lost, 29-27 on Friday, for the sixth time in the last seven tries against Missouri a school that – supposedly – has an inferior football program to the one in Fayetteville.

But recent history hasn’t show that to be the case, leading to questions, yet again, for the Razorbacks.

Sam Pittman, in his third year, finished with a 6-6 record. It’s better than the opening season’s 3-7, but not quite last year’s 8-4. The difference in 2022 was measureable.

Arkansas lost four of its six games by one possession.

Matt Landers was NOT going to drop that touchdown

All the Missouri defender needed to do was knock it out of Matt Landers’ hands. He couldn’t.

The second half of Matt Landers’ season has seen the transfer wideout break out.

His touchdown reception with 9:26 left in the second quarter of Arkansas’ season finale against Missouri may have been the most important catch of the season.

With the Hogs trailing 17-7, Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson was looking down the left sideline for Landers. The high pass landed into the end zone where it found Landers and a Missouri defender at practically the same time.

All the defender had to do was free the ball. He didn’t have to take it away to keep the Hogs from scoring.

He couldn’t.

Landers held on to the ball and pulled himself and the defender to the ground as the official standing nearby signaled for a touchdown. Even once down, Landers wasn’t letting go easily. That same official had to tap him, as if to suggest “You’re good, man.”

The score was Landers’ seventh touchdown reception of the season and Jefferson’s 21st touchdown pass, tying his career high, set last year.
