The complete list of the 64 NBA stars, legends, coaches and more in Adam Sandler’s Hustle

Anthony Edwards, Boban Marjanovic, Tobias Harris and so many more NBA players are featured.

It is no secret that comedian Adam Sandler loves basketball. His newest film, Hustle, which is now streaming on Netflix, is his longest love letter to the sport yet.

The film is produced by Sandler’s Happy Madison Production in tandem with LeBron James’ The SpringHill Company. It is about a basketball scout who discovers a once-in-a-lifetime player with “a rocky past” (played by Juancho Hernangomez) and the path he takes to the NBA.

Spencer Beighley — the Head of Film at The SpringHill Company and an executive producer for Hustle — explained to For The Win why the movie was able to land so many big names for this project.

“You’re going to see a lot of excellent basketball players in this movie. It was never as easy to get cameos in any movie than it was on Hustle because when you say Adam Sandler’s name, people immediately perk up,” Beighley said.

“All these players, they not only grew up with all of Adam’s movies, but they know that he is a true basketball fan at his core.”

You’ll notice that many of the featured athletes have connections to the Philadelphia 76ers. That’s because, in the movie, Sandler’s character used to work for the organization. The film’s director (Jeremiah Zagar) and writer (Will Fetters) are both from Philly.

Meanwhile, in addition to many of the bigger names, there are also plenty of other non-NBA basketball players who played important roles (including streetball legends like The Professor, AO, and Main Event) as well.

“There are so many hidden cameos that sometimes go so ‘inside-basketball’ that only the dedicated fans are really going to notice,” Beighley added. “I think it’s those cameos that allow this story to feel like a love letter to the game.”

For example, TNT broadcaster Kenny Smith plays an agent named Leon Rich. In case you didn’t catch that reference, LeBron’s first agent when he came into the league was Leon Rose and his current agent is Rich Paul.

There are plenty of other similar nuggets (including Denver’s Aaron Gordon) and easter eggs sprinkled throughout the film to look out for as well.

Before you stream, you can watch a trailer for the movie if you click here. Otherwise, take a look at some of the individuals who you will see on the screen when you watch Hustle.

NOTE: Some of the images could be spoilers for the movie!

B/R mock trade has Sixers moving Matisse Thybulle to Nuggets in 4-team deal

A mock trade has the Philadelphia 76ers moving Matisse Thybulle to the Denver Nuggets in a 4-team deal.

As the Philadelphia 76ers head into what is expected to be a critical offseason for them, they will have to decide how to best improve the roster around their star duo of Joel Embiid and James Harden. After falling to the Miami Heat in the semifinals, the Sixers could definitely use some sort of upgrade to their bench.

With that being said, all eyes are on Tobias Harris being a guy who is a likely candidate to be moved in the 2022 offseason. However, there is another player who could garner trade attention and that is Matisse Thybulle.

The defensive stud out of Washington finished up his third season as one of the elite defensive players in the league again, but he is still a non-factor on the offensive end and a mock trade from Bleacher Report has Philadelphia moving him in a 4-team deal. The other three teams include the Denver Nuggets, the Chicago Bulls, and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Philadelphia 76ers 2021-22 season in review: Matisse Thybulle

Here is a review of the 2021-22 season for Philadelphia 76ers defensive stud Matisse Thybulle.

The 2021-22 season was an up and down one for Philadelphia 76ers guard Matisse Thybulle. The defensive star out of Washington once again impacted the defensive end on his way to earning All-Defensive second-team honors, but his offense was once again a problem.

Thybulle made some strides on the offensive end in terms of being able to move off the ball and cut to the basket for easy layups, but it didn’t change the fact teams still did not give him much attention on the offensive end.

Thybulle started 50 of the 66 games he played during the season, and he earned some confidence from coach Doc Rivers.

Sixers trade tiers: Ranking possible trade pieces by the most value

We are ranking the possible trade pieces for the Philadelphia 76ers by their most value heading into the offseason.

For the Philadelphia 76ers, the best way to improve this offseason is either through their own internal improvement or through the trade market. They only have the $6.4 million taxpayer mid-level exception to use in free agency, but they could open the $10.3 million mid-level exception if they waive Danny Green.

With that being said, it’s time to look up and down the roster and see who the Sixers can offer in a trade in order to improve the roster around Joel Embiid and James Harden going forward. It is assumed Harden will be back in some, shape or form whether it’s on the $47 million player option or he opts out of it and he and the Sixers work out a different deal.

With that said, Sixers Wire is going to rank some of Philadelphia’s best trade pieces and place them into tiers.

B/R mock trade has Sixers moving Matisse Thybulle to Thunder in a deal

A new mock trade has the Philadelphia 76ers sending Matisse Thybulle to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a deal.

The Philadelphia 76ers have to continue to retool the roster around Joel Embiid and James Harden as they begin to pick up the pieces following yet another Eastern Conference semifinals exit.

One issue that has to be fixed is their wing depth. Philadelphia will be missing Danny Green for a good portion, if not all of, the 2022-23 season after he tore his ACL and LCL in the Game 6 loss to the Miami Heat and they will have to replace him in some way, shape, or form.

At the moment, the Sixers have Matisse Thybulle, Furkan Korkmaz, and Isaiah Joe to count on. However, those three have yet to prove they can be valuable members on the court in playoff situations.

The Sixers expressed confidence in Thybulle who is one of the elite defenders in the NBA, but they could use an upgrade in that area. A mock trade from Bleacher Report has the Sixers sending Thybulle and the 2022 first-round pick (assuming the Brooklyn Nets defer until 2023) to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Lu Dort:

To make the best of it and hopefully contend more seriously in 2023, the Sixers need wing defenders who can shoot. Danny Green was the only trustworthy Sixer in that role against Miami, but he’ll almost certainly be out for all of next year after suffering a devastating knee injury in Game 6.

Shake Milton lacks the size for the gig, Georges Niang shot 16.0 percent from deep against the Heat, Matisse Thybulle became unplayable in the playoffs, and Furkan Korkmaz has hit only 31.9 percent of his threes across 30 career postseason games.

Let’s get bold, assume the Nets defer their rights to Philadelphia’s 2022 first-rounder until 2023 (an option they secured in the Harden trade) and hope the Oklahoma City Thunder think they can teach Thybulle how to shoot.

The idea is there. Dort is a much better fit for Philadelphia at the moment than Thybulle, but it would be surprising to see the Thunder take that trade. This is one where Oklahoma City would probably have to say no to Daryl Morey in this instance.

Sixers guard Matisse Thybulle named to NBA All-Defensive Second Team

Philadelphia 76ers guard Matisse Thybulle has been named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team.

When one thinks about defense with the Philadelphia 76ers, the two players that come to mind are Joel Embiid and Matisse Thybulle. Embiid is the one who cleans up any mistakes at the rim as he’s one of the best at protecting the basket and then Thybulle does a helluva job of locking down guys on the perimeter.

On Friday, the NBA announced their All-Defensive Teams for the 2021-22 season and Thybulle was named to the All-Defensive Second Team. He joins Miami Heat big man Bam Adebayo, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, Milwaukee Bucks guard Jrue Holiday, and Boston Celtics big man Robert Williams III for the postseason defensive honor.

Thybulle, spending most of his minutes as a starter, averaged a career-high 1.7 steals as well as 1.1 blocks. The fact that he was able to get as many blocks as he does as a perimeter player has always been impressive and being able to make a big impact on that end was huge for the Sixers.

It was a bit surprising that Embiid did not make either team after he averaged 1.5 blocks as well as 1.1 steals. There isn’t a lot that the 7-foot MVP runner-up can’t do. He is just one of the best players in the game on both ends of the floor and his defensive effort shows that.

New mock trade has Sixers sending Matisse Thybulle to Kings in a deal

A new mock trade has the Philadelphia 76ers sending Matisse Thybulle to the Sacramento Kings in a deal.

The Philadelphia 76ers have some issues that they need to address as they head into the 2022 offseason. After another second round exit from the playoffs, there are still some questions about the roster that must be addressed as they move forward.

One of them is the bench. The bench unit continues to be up and down for Philadelphia and they have got to figure something out in order to improve that group.

Matisse Thybulle has been a key reserve for this team, but he has yet to truly take the next step in terms of his development as a player. He is an elite defender, but he has yet to truly take the next step forward on the offensive end in order to be a two-way player in this league, though he did say that is his goal is to be better on the offensive end for the 2022-23 season.

A new mock trade performed by Bleacher Report has Thybulle and Furkan Korkmaz going to the Sacramento Kings for Justin Holiday, Alex Len, and two 2022 second round picks with one via the Chicago Bulls:

If the Sixers don’t feel they can pay him (especially with big contracts already owed to Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris and James Harden and Tyrese Maxey needing to be paid soon as well), they should try and trade Thybulle now with one year left on his rookie deal.

Holiday gives Philly a solid wing defender to help offset the loss of Thybulle, and Len is an upgrade over DeAndre Jordan as a backup center. The Kings also send multiple 2022 second-round picks to the Sixers, who currently don’t own a selection in the upcoming draft.

As much as Thybulle has been a help on the defensive end, the Sixers could use an upgrade from him off the bench. Holiday is a good defender in his own right and he can knock down the 3-ball while Len can provide good backup minutes behind Embiid.

Daryl Morey, Sixers give a vote of confidence in Matisse Thybulle

Daryl Morey and the Philadelphia 76ers give a vote of confidence for Matisse Thybulle for the future.

CAMDEN, N.J. — The Philadelphia 76ers have some roster-improvement questions that can only be resolved from outside the organization. But, there have to be improvements from the players already on their roster for the franchise to accomplish its championship goal.

The biggest example is Matisse Thybulle. After three seasons, Thybulle is considered one of the top defenders in the league. His ability to wreak havoc all over the floor can disrupt the opposition’s game plans.

However, he has to improve on the offensive end. Thybulle revealed his goal of being a threat on the offensive end, and the team has confidence he can be.

“I think Matisse is someone who’s got an elite defensive component, and I think he’s looking at himself and saying, how can I improve and contribute in other ways?” said president Daryl Morey.

Morey discussed how tough it is to play one-dimensional players such as Thybulle in the playoffs. That presents a challenge for coach Doc Rivers when figuring out a rotation.

“Doc and I were talking about this: The players who are sort of extreme one-way type players, it’s challenging in the playoffs,” said Morey. “It’s challenging for the coaches; it’s challenging for the players. I think for Matisse, his mission, which he knows, is how can he improve in ways that makes him someone that can make more of an impact in the playoffs. I think he will in the future.”

Rivers, Morey and the Sixers remain patient and confident in Thybulle’s  ability to improve on the offensive end.

“He’s working on it,” said  Rivers. “I can tell you that. It is difficult. One-way players are better in the regular season than the playoffs. I think we all know that, but Matisse is putting in the time. We hired the right resources, as far as staffing, shooting coaches, and everybody, and more importantly, the right resource with Matisse is his work ethic. He’s putting in the work.”

If Thybulle can return with some type of offensive game, he immediately becomes an elite player.

“It’s gradual,” Rivers finished. “It’s called being patient and we are. I think it makes us more patient, because he works at. We would be less patient if we didn’t think he was working at it and the fact that he’s working at it. There were improvements. He became a better cutter this year. He ran the floor better this year, and the next step is to improve the shot. Which we’re working on every day, and that’s going to be his marching orders this summer.”

Player grades: No. 1 seed Heat win Game 6 to eliminate Joel Embiid, Sixers

The No. 1 seed Miami Heat come up with a Game 6 win to eliminate Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers.

PHILADELPHIA — This was it for the Philadelphia 76ers. This was either win or go home with the Miami Heat coming into the Wells Fargo Center for Game 6, this seemed like an opportunity for the Sixers to get some momentum for a Game 7. However, with Joel Embiid really hobbling, it was not a night the Sixers will want to remember.

The Heat got big nights out of Max Strus to help Jimmy Butler get the job done on the road as they came up with a 99-90 win to eliminate Embiid and the Sixers. This is the fourth time in five seasons that Philadelphia has been eliminated from the second round of the playoffs.

Embiid led the Sixers with 20 points and 12 rebounds, Tyrese Maxey added 20 of his own, and James Harden had 11 and nine assists. Tobias Harris had 14 and eight rebounds and Shake Milton added 15 off the bench.

Here are the player grades as the Sixers now head to the offseason:

Player grades: Jimmy Butler leads Heat past Joel Embiid, Sixers in Game 5

Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat knock off Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers in a critical Game 5 in South Beach.

MIAMI — The Philadelphia 76ers headed back to South Beach on Tuesday looking to take control of this series with the Miami Heat. After two terrific games up in Philadelphia to tie the series, the Sixers could not replicate it to start Game 5 as they found themselves in an 18-point deficit in the first half.

The Sixers did chip away at the deficit and stay in the game despite how poorly they played from the jump. They cut the lead to 10 early in the third quarter, but the Heat then jumped all over the Sixers after that as they played with much more purpose and they were aggressive on their way to a 120-85 victory. Jimmy Butler led Miami with 23 points, nine rebounds, and six assists as the Heat now have the Sixers on the brink.

Joel Embiid led Philadelphia with 17 points and five rebounds, James Harden had 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists, Tobias Harris had 12 points, and Tyrese Maxey had nine. Shake Milton had ??? and Danny Green also added six points on the night.

Here are the player grades following the loss:
