Ohio State basketball vs. Maryland: How to watch and listen to the game Monday

After a huge road win in Iowa, Ohio State travels to Maryland to take on the Terrapins in a Big Ten battle. Here’s how to find the game.

The Ohio State basketball team and head coach Chris Holtman have to be feeling good. The Buckeyes are riding a four-game win streak and have won seven of their last eight.

Holtman has OSU playing its best basketball of the season, and it was evident in a big-time road win over No. 8 Iowa. The Hawkeyes were a bad matchup for the Buckeyes with their size and length, but an excellent game plan and some sharp shooting from beyond the arc gave Ohio State the win.

Now the Buckeyes travel to the East Coast to face the Maryland Terrapins in another highly anticipated Big Ten battle. Maryland has been a middle of the pack team with a 4-8 record in the conference and 10-9 overall.

The Terps have knocked off a few top 25 teams, so Ohio State had better come ready for a fight.

Everything Maryland HC Mark Turgeon said about Wisconsin basketball after the game

The Wisconsin Badgers rebounded from their loss in Madison to Ohio State last weekend with a 61-55 victory over the Maryland Terrapins.

The Wisconsin Badgers rebounded last night from their home to Ohio State with a 61-55 road victory over the Maryland Terrapins.

The win moves the Badgers to 13-4 on the season, to 7-3 in Big Ten play and avenges the team’s loss to Maryland earlier in the season.

Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon spoke with the media after the game and addressed the Badgers’ victory, noting the contributions of senior forward Micah Potter but also acknowledging that his team didn’t play its best game.

Here is everything Turgeon said about Wisconsin basketball after the game:

The good, the bad, and the MVP: Michigan basketball defeats Maryland

What worked well for Michigan basketball, what didn’t and who was the best player on the court for the Wolverines against Maryland.

Mostly everyone wondered how Michigan would fare coming off a big loss at Minnesota this past Saturday. Would the team lose confidence, or would that game just be an aberration? Well, the Wolverines answered that, and they did it quite swiftly.

The maize and blue started the night off on an impressive 17-3 start, and they never looked back. Great defense, good passes, and sharp shooting from the perimeter landed the No. 7 Wolverines a big win on Tuesday with the final score being 87-63. Michigan has now swept the Maryland Terrapins — unless the two teams meet in the Big Ten tournament.

With the win on Tuesday evening, the Wolverines are still in first place in the Big Ten standings, and their next matchup will be with Purdue on Friday.

We’re going to dive more into the game and discuss what we liked, didn’t like, and who will take home the coveted MVP award.

5 takeaways: Michigan returns to form in blowout win over Maryland

It didn’t get any better for the Terps in their return trip to Ann Arbor as Michigan basketball took down Maryland. Here’s our takeaways.

Fresh off their first loss of the season at Minnesota, the big question was: how would Michigan basketball bounce back? Especially since it wasn’t a grind-it-out loss, but a complete blowout.

It turns out, pretty good.

The Wolverines were on fire from the outset and led from wire-to-wire, with multiple contributors helping the maize and blue jumping out to an early advantage. But there were some differences between this win and some of Michigan’s others.

Hunter Dickinson was quiet offensively — but not defensively — while Mike Smith rebounded from an abysmal performance in Minneapolis. And defensively, the whole team was beyond solid.

Here are our five takeaways from the Wolverines’ 87-63 win over Maryland.

Wisconsin falls into the trap: Maryland upsets the No. 6 Badgers 70-64

The Badgers are upset by Maryland at home

Wisconsin taking on Maryland at home had all the elements of a trap game for the No. 6 Badgers, and that’s exactly what it turned out to be on Monday night.

An 0-2 in the Big Ten Maryland team starved for a win showed that they were the hungrier team at the Kohl Center. The Terrapins picked up their first win of the Big Ten season with a second half shooting barrage that erased a four-point deficit after 20 minutes. Shooting nearly 65% from the field in the second 20 and going 11-12 from the line in the half led Maryland to an improbably come-from-behind 70-64 win in Madison.

The difference in energy was on display from the opening tip, and the Terrapins created their own. The Maryland bench was up and active from the jump, providing the players on the floor with a spark. Head coach Mark Turgeon had his team ready to go after a heartbreaking loss at Purdue on Christmas.

On the flip side, Wisconsin was coming off of their most impressive win of the season. A Christmas Day win over Michigan State on the road felt like the arrival of a national championship contender in this Badger team. This was the classic case of a winless, albeit underdog, opponent wanting and needing this victory more.

Despite a slow start, D’Mitrik Trice paced a Wisconsin offense that eventually found their footing at the end of the first half. The Badgers led 28-24 after a low-scoring first 20 minutes.

After Wisconsin’s defense kept the clamps on and the Badgers built a 7-point lead three minutes into the final half, Maryland caught fire. Through the final ten minutes, it felt as if anything the Terrapins touched turned to flames. Difficult finishes in the lane, corner threes late in the shot clock, free throws for a team that didn’t statistically shoot them all that well a year ago, it didn’t matter. It was all finding the bottom of the net.

Eric Ayala finished with 17 points in the second half (and did not score in the first half) alone to lead Maryland, while big man Donta Scott had a plethora of impressive interior finishes to end up with ten points in the half. Reigning Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year Aaron Wiggins also stepped up with 15 points on the night and nine in the final frame.

All of a sudden, a Wisconsin team that lives inside and has all the answers defensively looked clueless on that end. Despite Trice’s game-high 25 points, struggles from Micah Potter and Nate Reuvers on both ends wrote the story for the Badgers.

Maryland needed it more, wanted it more, and got the result they deserved. The Terps improved to 1-2 in the Big Ten and 6-3 overall, while the No. 6 Badgers picked up their first conference loss to fall to 2-1 in Big Ten play and 8-2 overall.

Next up, No. 6 Wisconsin has No. 21 Minnesota at home on Thursday afternoon.

BREAKING: Michigan vs. Maryland canceled

The Michigan football program announced its first cancellation of the 2020 season due to COVID-19.

[jwplayer cGyVsnIu-XNcErKyb]

Michigan had gone until the past week without having any issues involving COVID-19, after having had minimal cases since reporting to campus in June. Now, with just two weeks of the regular season left, the Wolverines are the ones calling off games.

The victim is Maryland, a team that had canceled games earlier this season, but it’s not the Terrapins not at full strength this week. No, the maize and blue are calling the game off, and aren’t due to practice again until Monday — assuming the team is back in the clear.

Full release

The University of Michigan Athletic Department announced today (Wednesday, Dec. 2) that it will be pausing football practices and that Saturday’s game against Maryland has been canceled and will not be rescheduled. This decision to pause in-person football activities was made in consultation with medical professionals and the local health department.

“The decision by our medical professionals to stop practices and cancel this Saturday’s game against Maryland was made with the health, safety and welfare of the student-athletes, coaches and staff as our utmost priority,” said Warde Manuel, the Donald R. Shepherd Director of Athletics. “We have seen an increase in the number of student-athletes unavailable to compete due to positive tests and associated contact tracing due to our most recent antigen and PCR testing results.”

Daily testing will continue and medical professionals will make a determination when to resume practice. The earliest practice can resume will be Monday, Dec. 7.

Michigan football kickoff times set for Penn State, Maryland

We now know the rest of Michigan football’s schedule as it pertains to kickoff time and channels for the rest of the year.

[jwplayer xnLp9XvK-XNcErKyb]

After alternating road and home games the first five games of the 2020 season, Michigan football will be at home the next two weeks before finishing out the year at Ohio State.

Not only was the Penn State game time for Nov. 28 announced on Sunday, but on Monday, we also learned when the Dec. 5 matchup against Maryland will take place.

The Wolverines will face off against the Nittany Lions at noon EST on Nov. 28 — a day when the maize and blue originally was supposed to see arch-rival Ohio State. But the good news is that the year of the night game appears to be over for Michigan — as the team has participated in three late kicks out of the five games thus far — as the Maryland game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. EST.

The Wolverines and Nittany Lions’ noon kick will be broadcast nationally on ABC, whereas the Maryland game can be seen on Big Ten Network. This is, of course, assuming that the Terps are back to full health, as they’ve missed their last two games due to COVID-19 outbreaks on the team.

Of course, the final contest of the season will be at Ohio State, where the Wolverines will have a noon kick on FOX.

WATCH: Ryan Day Maryland preview press conference

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day met with members of the media on a Zoom call Tuesday to discuss the team and preview Maryland.

It’s Tuesday of a game week, and that means it was time to hear from Ohio State head coach Ryan Day. The head man makes a media appearance every week to discuss the past game, where the team is, and to preview the upcoming opponent for the week.

In this case, that next opponent is a somewhat resurgent Maryland Terrapin squad that could be more dangerous than past years. So, Day stepped to the Zoom camera today to take a look at what challenges playing Maryland pose.

If you missed any of Day’s comments, we’ve got them for you thanks to the official Twitter account of the Ohio State Buckeyes and online at OhioStateBuckeyes.com.

In it, Day talks about Justin Fields as a baseball player, the ceiling Garrett Wilson has, getting valuable playing time for those on the depth chart, and much more.

Former Alabama QB Taulia Tagovailoa, younger brother of Tua, transfers to a Big Ten opponent

The former Bama QB has a new home in the Big Ten

[lawrence-newsletter]Former Alabama QB Taulia Tagovailoa is headed to the Big Ten Conference. The younger brother of Tua Tagovailoa, the 2020 first round NFL draft pick of the Miami Dolphins, is transferring to Maryland he announced Friday.

A consensus four-star recruit coming out of high school, Tagovailoa originally chose Alabama over the likes of Florida and LSU.

Last season at Alabama, the younger Tagovailoa appeared in five games while playing sparingly in those appearances. He finished the year 9-12 passing with 100 total yards and a touchdown. The news comes just a couple of months after former Maryland QB Tyrrell Pigrome transferred from the program to Western Kentucky, leaving a spot open at the position.

Wisconsin will see Maryland on the road on October 24, 2020.
