Mark Ingram’s 75-yard touchdown run is the Saints Play of the Day

Here’s a throwback for you. Mark Ingram’s 75-yard touchdown run against the San Francisco 49ers is the New Orleans Saints Play of the Day:

There are 75 days left to go until the New Orleans Saints kick off their 2024 season, so we’re highlighting one of the longest touchdown runs in franchise history. Mark Ingram II’s career-long 75-yard score against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium back in 2016 is our Saints Play of the Day.

It was the longest play from scrimmage of Ingram’s career, and it came at a critical juncture. The Saints were fighting to get to .500 after a 3-4 start to their season, and Colin Kaepernick had just scored on a 47-yard touchdown pass to DuJuan Harris to cut into New Orleans’ lead. Phil Dawson’s extra point attempt sailed through the uprights with 5:56 left in the first half.

The following kickoff was a touchback, and the Saints offense took the field at their own 25-yard line with 5:56 still on the clock. Ingram received the handoff from Drew Brees, found a hole in the San Francisco defensive front, then sprinted through their secondary to score from 75 yards out. Wil Lutz banged the extra point with 5:45 remaining.

Dennis Allen’s defense held up in the second half and the Saints returned to New Orleans with a 41-23 blowout win to their credit. They still finished at 7-9, but this season laid the groundwork for a greater successes to come in 2017 and the years ahead.

Former Alabama RB Jase McClellan recieving interest from several NFL teams

Several NFL teams have met and expressed interest in former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Jase McClellan.

When it comes to producing NFL talent at the running back position, no school has had anywhere close to the level of success as the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Tide has been represented on Sundays by guys like Mark Ingram, Derrick Henry, Josh Jacobs, Najee Harris and many more under the guidance of legendary head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag]. While Saban did, unfortunately, retire in January, [autotag]Jase McClellan[/autotag] has a chance to be the final Saban-produced back drafted into the NFL.

McClellan was the Tide’s leading rusher in the 2023 season with 180 carried for 890 yards and eight touchdowns. However, with the Alabama passing attack rather inconsistent at times, McClellan was a strong presence in the backfield that Milroe and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees could rely on when things got tricky. McClellan may not have put up jaw-dropping numbers, but he has a ton of upside and is receiving a ton of interest ahead of this week’s NFL draft.

I don’t expect McClellan to be a first-round pick, but he is one of the best running backs in a very lackluster running back draft. The Texas native has reportedly met with a number of teams including the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans Saints among others. It will be interesting to see where McClellan goes likely on Friday night.

Alvin Kamara and a couple of famous friends working hard in Liberia

Alvin Kamara and close friends Mark Ingram II, Cameron Jordan started their offseason with some hard work volunteering in Liberia:

Shoutout to Alvin Kamara. The New Orleans Saints running back started his offseason overseas, visiting his grandparents and extended family in his mother’s home country of Liberia. And while he was there, Kamara met with local government officials and community organizers to lend a hand however he could, including the mayor of Monrovia, the nation’s capital.

And he had some big help from a couple of famous friends. Kamara’s teammate Cameron Jordan says he invited himself to fly into Monrovia and join Kamara in volunteering with the sanitation department to help clean up the streets. Their former teammate and close friend Mark Ingram II made the trip, too. All three Pro Bowlers picked up shovels, slung on bright green vests, and got to work.

It’s a really great gesture from all of them. Ingram was a key influence in the Saints locker room as a team leader and mentor for Kamara, and Jordan has always valued community outreach and charity work. Both Jordan and Ingram volunteered for USO Tours during their decade-plus in the NFL. Grabbing some work gloves and choosing to leave a place better than they found it was an easy decision. Good for them providing a great example.

Alvin Kamara won another Saints franchise record against the Giants

Alvin Kamara won yet another Saints franchise record against the Giants. No player has had more seasons with 1,000-plus scrimmage yards in team history:

Don’t look now, but Alvin Kamara has won yet another New Orleans Saints franchise record during his performance against the New York Giants. No player has had more seasons with 1,000-plus scrimmage yards in team history — a feat Kamara has now accomplished seven times.

Kamara went into Sunday’s matchup with 966 scrimmage yards through his first 10 games in 2023, and he went the distance midway through the third quarter to join the Comma Club again. Here are the leaders in Saints franchise history for 1,000-yard seasons:

  • RB Alvin Kamara: 7
  • WR Marques Colston: 6
  • WR Michael Thomas, RB Mark Ingram II, RB Deuce McAllister, and WR Joe Horn: 4
  • WR Eric Martin, RB Ricky Williams: 3

Kamara’s impact on the Saints can’t be understated: he’s a rare talent who landed in the perfect spot to make the most of his talents with Drew Brees throwing to him and Sean Payton drawing up his plays to start his career. And he’s still producing. Hopefully he can keep it going for years to come.

Alvin Kamara ties Mark Ingram II’s Saints rushing touchdowns record

Alvin Kamara tied the Saints rushing touchdowns record set by his old friend Mark Ingram II on Sunday against the Lions:

Another week, another record for Alvin Kamara. The star running back tied the New Orleans Saints rushing touchdowns record set by his old friend Mark Ingram II on Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

Kamara rumbled into the end zone for his 52nd career touchdown run in a Saints uniform from just 2 yards out, following a great play by Chris Olave. The second-year wide receiver gained 33 yards to get Kamara in scoring position by working back to adjust for an off-target throw from Derek Carr. Call it a team effort.

And Kamara nearly broke the record later on. He initially seemed to fall into the end zone on a 1-yard touchdown run, but booth review found that his knee hit the turf short of the goal line. Taysom Hill got the next carry and pushed through the pile to cut into the Lions’ lead. Kamara has to wait a little longer to take the record from his former teammate.

St. Elmo’s shrimp cocktail sauce nearly fells Mark Ingram

Shrimp cocktail sauce proved too tough for Mark Ingram of FOX Sports

Anyone who knows anything about Indianapolis is aware of the famed — as in hot — shrimp cocktail sauce at St. Elmo’s.

Mark Ingram of FOX Sports must have not been clued in. The former NFL star and Heisman winner was on set before the Big Ten Championship Game between Iowa and Michigan on Saturday.

Someone thought it was a good idea for Ingram to eat the shrimp cocktail live on air.

It almost got really ugly.

EXCLUSIVE: Mark Ingram talks Michigan football run game before Ohio State

This will get you amped up! #GoBlue

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Mark Ingram is new to the studio analyst game, but he’s getting a taste of one of the biggest games of the decade when Michigan football takes on Ohio State on Saturday.

A former Heisman Trophy winner for Alabama, Ingram has familiarity with Michigan football as he hails from nearby Flint. He’s been on-hand for three Wolverines games thus far in 2023 and has seen Ohio State in person, too.

Considering TreVeyon Henderson has come on strong late for the Buckeyes, the maize and blue are going to need everything from Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards. We met up with Ingram on the Fox Sports ‘Big Noon Kickoff’ set on Friday to discuss the Michigan run game with Ohio State looming.

Here’s everything he had to say.

Jason Pierre-Paul picked a unique new jersey number to wear with the Saints

Jason Pierre-Paul picked a unique new jersey number to wear with the Saints, representing his fourteenth year in the NFL:

The newest member of the New Orleans Saints has made a unique choice for his jersey number: Jason Pierre-Paul announced his formal signing with the Saints practice squad on Tuesday, including an edited photo showing the pass rusher in his new uniform, featuring the No. 14 jersey. Pierre-Paul said it’s to represent his 14th year in the NFL in a post from his official Instagram account.

Though it isn’t reflected on the team’s website roster (where Pierre-Paul is not yet listed at all), this means that Pierre-Paul will be designated as a linebacker, even if he primarily plays defensive end. The No. 14 jersey only recently became available for linebackers and defensive backs after being limited to offensive players, kickers, and punters. If Pierre-Paul were listed as a defensive end, the only other options for him would have been Nos. 59, 60, 61, 63, 65, 66, 69, 72, 76, and 79. For the most part, those are all thoroughly swaggerless.

Pierre-Paul wore No. 4 with the Baltimore Ravens last year; before that, he had only used No. 90 in the NFL and in college at USF. He wore No. 91 at College of the Canyons in California and No. 9 at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas after using No. 98 at Deerfield Beach High School in Florida.

So he’ll be using No. 14 for the first time in his football career. Former Saints quarterback Andy Dalton used it last season after running back Mark Ingram II wore it a year before; the number fell in disuse for decades until wide receiver Tommylee Lewis brought it back in 2020. Let’s hope Pierre-Paul wears it well.

Alvin Kamara ties Marshall Faulk for most two-point conversions in NFL history

Another week, another record. Alvin Kamara has tied Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk for the most two-point conversions in NFL history:

Week after week, New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara continues to set records. Previously this season, he reached the 10,000 all-purpose yards milestone, becoming the first Saint to ever reach that landmark. Now, Kamara continues to look to add to his extremely successful career by tying another record during Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Kamara came into the game with five two-point conversions in his career during the regular season. The all-time leader is Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Marshall Faulk, who had seven in his storied career. Kamara was able to get two of these conversions so far in the game against Minnesota, so they currently are tied for the NFL record.

The one thing worth noting here is that Faulk did have an eighth conversion which occurred in the playoffs, so he does have eight in his career total between the regular season and postseason. Former Saints running back Mark Ingram II also had one in the playoffs, so if we count that, Kamara is tied for second place with Ingram for total career conversions.

Two more conversions would clear Kamara of both records, one more would clear him of the regular season record. It’s another impressive feat for the veteran Saint, who continues to be one of the most impressive offensive weapons in franchise history.
