[autotag]Miesha Tate[/autotag]’s return to MMA from a nearly five-year retirement was a success on Saturday when she beat [autotag]Marion Reneau[/autotag] in the UFC on ESPN 26 co-main event.

Former UFC champ Tate (19-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC) got back in the octagon for the first time since November 2016 and managed to pull off a third-round TKO victory over Reneau (9-8-1 MMA, 5-7-1 UFC) in the women’s bantamweight matchup, which took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

UFC on ESPN 26 results: Ex-UFC champion Miesha Tate stops Marion Reneau in MMA return

Miesha Tate makes a successful return to MMA, picking up a TKO win at UFC on ESPN 26.

[autotag]Miesha Tate[/autotag] was successful in her return to MMA competition.

The former UFC and Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion stopped veteran [autotag]Marion Reneau[/autotag] in her comeback fight at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 26. Tate (19-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC) defeated Reneau (9-8-1 MMA, 5-7-1 UFC) via TKO at the 1:53 mark of round three.

The women’s bantamweight bout was the UFC on ESPN 26 co-main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on ESPN and streamed on ESPN+.

It was a dominant showing by Tate.

In the opening round, Tate was happy to keep the fight on the feet. Both fighters connected and had their moments, but Tate was doing most of the pressuring and damage. Halfway through the round, Tate closed the distance and pinned Reneau against the cage. Little action went down before the fight resumed again in the striking department. With a minute left, Tate got a takedown and moved to half-guard to end the round.

The second, Reneau started well, keeping her distance and tagging Tate from afar. However, halfway through the round, Tate got a takedown. The former UFC titleholder kept top control while landing ground-and-pound on Reneau. “The Belizean Bruiser” did a good job at avoiding major damage while being on the bottom, but was unable to get back on her feet.

The final round was all Tate. She did damage on the feet and once again was able to get the fight to the ground. From there, she poured the ground-and-pound, forcing the referee to call the fight and award the TKO win to Tate.

Tate had retired from the sport in 2016 after suffering a decision loss to Raquel Pennington at UFC 205. Tate walked away from the sport on a two-fight losing streak, which marked the end of her run as UFC women’s bantamweight champion. “Cupcake” lost the belt to current champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 in July 2016.

The 34-year-old didn’t call anyone out following her win over Reneau, but did make it clear she plans to continue fighting.

For Reneau, the loss marked her last MMA fight. The 44-year-old fighter had previously announced she was going to retire following UFC on ESPN 26. Reneau walks away from the sport with notable wins over Sara McMann and Jessica Andrade.

Miesha Tate will make a return to the octagon nearly five years after she hung up her gloves.

Women’s MMA pioneer and former UFC champion [autotag]Miesha Tate[/autotag] has opted to end her retirement and return to fighting.

Tate (18-7 MMA, 5-4 UFC), who hung up the gloves in November 2016, will make her comeback to the octagon on July 17 when she takes on [autotag]Marion Reneau[/autotag] (9-7-1 MMA, 5-6-1 UFC) in a women’s bantamweight matchup at a UFC Fight Night event.

MMA Junkie confirmed the news with a person close to the situation following an initial report from UFC broadcast partner ESPN. The person requested anonymity because the UFC has yet to make an official announcement.

Tate, 34, hasn’t won since her stunning come-from-behind title victory over Holly Holm in March 2016 at UFC 194. She went on to lose the belt to Amanda Nunes in her next fight at UFC 200, before losing to Raquel Pennington at UFC 205 in a fight that prompted her retirement from MMA.

Since retiring, Tate became a mother of two and worked as an executive for ONE Championship. She said she constantly trained along the way before finally deciding to make a comeback.

Meanwhile, according to the report from ESPN, Reneau, who at 43 is the oldest active fighter on the UFC roster, will opt to retire from the sport after her fight with Tate.

UFC officials have yet to announce the July 17 event that will feature Tate vs. Reneau. Location, venue and broadcast plans remain unknown at this time.

Marion Reneau positive for COVID-19, bout vs. Macy Chiasson pushed back three weeks

Another fight week change has hit the UFC Fight Night 184 lineup due to COVID-19.

Another fight week change has hit the UFC Fight Night 184 lineup due to COVID-19.

[autotag]Marion Reneau[/autotag] (9-6-1 MMA, 5-5-1 UFC) on Wednesday announced on Instagram that she has tested positive for COVID-19, and her women’s bantamweight fight against [autotag]Macy Chiasson[/autotag] (6-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) has been postponed. UFC officials have not yet made a formal announcement.

Reneau said the fight has been moved from Saturday to later this month on the UFC’s Feb. 27 card, and that she and Chiasson agreed to the new date.

UFC Fight Night 184 takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The event streams on ESPN+. Reneau and Chiasson had a spot on the main card. It is not yet known if a preliminary card bout will move up to keep the main card at six fights, or if the show will go on with five on the main card.

Reneau is mired in three-fight skid with a decision loss to Cat Zingano in 2018, one to Yana Kunitskaya in 2019, and one to Raquel Pennington in June 2020. Prior to that, she was on a 3-0-1 run that included a submission win over Olympic medalist and former title challenger Sara McMann in February 2018.

Chiasson rebounded from the first loss of her pro career with a unanimous decision win over Shanna Young about a year ago. That got her back on track after a decision loss to Lina Lansberg in September 2019 that came after a perfect 5-0 start, as well as wins on Season 28 of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

With the postponement, the UFC Fight Night 184 lineup now includes:
