Oklahoma 4-star wide receiver decommits from the Sooners

Oklahoma Sooners lose commitment from four-star wide receiver in 2025 recruiting class.

The Oklahoma Sooners are in for an offseason of change with an offensive coordinator hire imminent. There hasn’t been an announcement yet, but the turnover on offense is already creating a ripple effect.

Four-star wide receiver Cortez Mills has been projected to flip to Nebraska. On Sunday evening, it was four-star wide receiver Marcus Harris who decommitted from the Oklahoma Sooners.

Harris, the No. 31 wide receiver in the 247Sports composite rankings, had been committed to the Sooners since June 17. Out of Mater Dei High School, Harris holds offers from 26 Power 4 programs.

With Mills expected to be out and Harris’ decommitment, the Sooners have just [autotag]Elijah Thomas[/autotag], [autotag]Emmanuel Choice[/autotag], and [autotag]Gracen Harris[/autotag] committed for the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag]. But there could be more changes coming at wide receiver in the cycle with a new offensive coordinator expected to join the staff in the coming days.

Oklahoma is expected to return a number of their veteran playmakers at wide receiver, but will need to get them healthy for 2025 to see the offense return to the level of production expected at the University of Oklahoma. In addition to the offensive coordinator turnover, college football rosters are facing a number crunch as the NCAA decreased the number of players from 120 to 105.

Oklahoma could see a number of other players decommit or enter the transfer portal because of the roster trim.

Texans release former SEC standout from practice squad

Marcus Harris was officially released from the Houston Texans practice squad on Wednesday.

Marcus Harris could become a standout defensive tackle, but it won’t be with the Houston Texans.

The Texans elected to release Harris from the practice squad to make room for wide receiver Jared Wayne. Wayne was previously a member of the Texans but was released from injured reserve with an injury settlement.

A standout at Auburn, Harris was selected in the seventh round in last year’s draft. He impressed during the final stages of training camp, but the team elected to release him during roster cutdowns.

After clearing waivers, Harris was signed to the practice squad. He was not elevated to the active roster despite the suspension of Denico Autry.

At Auburn, Harris totaled 97 tackles, 23.5 for losses and 11 sacks. In his All-SEC senior season, he recorded 40 tackles 11 for losses, seven sacks and one forced fumble.

The Texans travel to Gillette Stadium to take on the New England Patriots this Sunday at noon.

Asante, Hunter headline Auburn’s Senior Bowl watchlist representation

Auburn football is well represented on this season’s watchlist.

The coveted Senior Bowl watchlist has been released, and Auburn is well represented.

A total of 14 players on Auburn’s roster made the cut, with linebacker [autotag]Eugene Asante[/autotag] and running back [autotag]Jarquez Hunter[/autotag] headlining the representation.

Asante broke onto the scene last season by recording a team-leading 86 tackles with 8.5 going for a loss. He also tipped a pass and returned a fumble 67 yards for a touchdown in Auburn’s loss to Texas A&M. As for Hunter, he came close to reaching the 1,000-yard mark in rushing for the first time in his career last season. He ran for 909 yards and scored seven touchdowns while reeling in 18 passes for 118 yards.

Joining Hunter as offensive players to make the list are QB [autotag]Payton Thorne[/autotag], WRs [autotag]KeAndre Lambert-Smith[/autotag] and [autotag]Robert Lewis[/autotag], tight end [autotag]Rivaldo Fairweather[/autotag], and offensive linemen [autotag]Percy Lewis[/autotag] and [autotag]Dillon Wade[/autotag].

Thorne is projected to take a step forward this season thanks to the additions of Lambert-Smith and Lewis, who were stars at Penn State and Georgia State respectively. Fairweather will be a great threat in the passing game as he returns after hauling in 38 catches for 394 yards and six scores last season. Finally, Lewis joins an experienced offensive line after spending the previous two seasons at Mississippi State. Wade’s 819 snaps were the most among Auburn offensive players last season. In that frame, he allowed just two quarterback sacks.

Six defensive players were also labeled. Outside of Asante, DLs [autotag]Jayson Jones[/autotag] and [autotag]Jalen McLeod[/autotag], LB [autotag]Austin Keys[/autotag], and defensive backs [autotag]Keionte Scott[/autotag] and [autotag]Jerrin Thompson[/autotag] are also considered for a roster spot.

McLeod holds the highest grade among returning defenders from PFF with an 80.8, which was third-highest behind [autotag]DJ James[/autotag] and [autotag]Marcus Harris[/autotag], who has since departed for the NFL. Scott had a great season by leading all defensive backs in tackles with 42 with five pass deflections in 2023. He will team up with Thompson, who hauled in three interceptions at Texas last season, to provide experience to the Tigers’ defensive backfield. In two seasons at Auburn, Jones has complied 48 tackles with one registering as a loss.

The final representative on the Senior Bowl watchlist for Auburn is punter [autotag]Oscar Chapman[/autotag]. Chapman recorded 61 punts last season for a career-high average of 44.6 yards.

The 2025 Senior Bowl will take place on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile. The game will begin at 1:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcasted live on NFL Network.

2025 Oklahoma Sooners commitment tracker

Oklahoma Sooners 2025 commitment tracker

The Oklahoma Sooners are off to a much faster start in the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag] than in 2024. In fact, [autotag]Kevin Sperry[/autotag] committed to the 2025 class (March 13, 2023) before OU had received its first commitment for the 2024 class: [autotag]Jeremiah Newcombe[/autotag] (March 25, 2023).

The Sooners have put together another phenomenal class but the centerpiece came when five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi committed to the Sooners on Wednesday. That gave Oklahoma their third straight recruiting class with at least one five-star prospect and their fifth in the last three years.

Additionally, it provided another elite piece for the Sooners to work with in the trenches after adding [autotag]Adepoju Adebawore[/autotag] in 2023 and [autotag]David Stone[/autotag] in 2024 on the defensive side of the ball. Now, Bill Bedenbaugh has his cornerstone of the future on the offensive side of the ball. The Sooners have been working overtime to strengthen their talent along the line of scrimmage.

Now with Fasusi committed, the Sooners turn their attention to [autotag]Andrew Babalola[/autotag], [autotag]Christian Jones[/autotag], and [autotag]Jonah Williams[/autotag], their final big-time targets in the 2025 cycle. Babalola is said to be down to Michigan, Stanford, and Oklahoma. Jones is leaning toward Nebraska but likely won’t commit until the fall. Williams was once a heavy Oklahoma lean, but his recruitment has broadened over the last six months to include LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, and Oregon. There could also be a surprise addition or flip over the next few months ahead of the early signing period.

Here are the players committed to the Oklahoma Sooners’ [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag].

Oklahoma Sooners receive commitment from 4-Star WR Emmanuel Choice

Oklahoma Sooners add another four-star wide receiver, earning a commitment from Emmanuel Choice.

The Oklahoma Sooners and wide receivers coach [autotag]Emmitt Jones[/autotag] just continue to add big-time playmakers. After adding [autotag]Marcus Harris[/autotag] to the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag] last week, the Sooners picked up another commitment from On3 four-star wide receiver [autotag]Emmanuel Choice[/autotag] on Sunday.

The No. 36 wide receiver in the country, according to On3, chose the Sooners over offers from Nebraska, TCU, Texas A&M, and USC. He also held offers from Missouri, Texas, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.

This summer, Choice took official visits with USC, Missouri, Texas A&M, and most recently, Oklahoma on June 21.

Choice is a playmaker in every sense of the word for Lancaster High in Texas. He does a great job of using his 6-foot-4 frame and wingspan to go above the rim to beat cornerbacks in 50-50 situations. He’s a fluid route runner who has the ability to create yards after the catch due to his size and physicality.

Emmanuel Choice represents the 17th player committed to the Oklahoma Sooners 2025 recruiting class and the fourth wide receiver, joining [autotag]Gracen Harris[/autotag], [autotag]Elijah Thomas[/autotag], and Marcus Harris.

Marcus Harris had UCLA as one of final choices

UCLA was a finalist.

Marcus Harris, a four-star wide receiver from Santa Ana California had narrowed his focus to three teams.  DeShaun Foster and the UCLA Bruins made the list of three.

The 17th-ranked receiver in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports also mentioned the Georgia Bulldogs and Oregon Ducks are on his list. Harris is listed as one of the top pass catchers in all of the country. He is an extremely explosive athlete with strong hands. He stands 6’1 and weighs 185lbs, but that is expected to change before his freshman season.

His junior season at Mater Dei saw him catch 43 passes for 644 yards and 6 touchdowns. His team won the CIF Open Division Championship. He also ran track and posted 11.14 in the 100-meter dash his freshman season.

Harris visited UCLA on May 31st, which came two days after his offer. He also took a visit to Georiga in mid-May.

Unfortunately, Harris decided to join the Sooners in a blow for the Bruins.

Oklahoma Sooners favored to land 2025 4-star WR Cortez Mills

The Oklahoma Sooners appear to have made a strong impression on four-star wide receiver Cortez Mills.

The Oklahoma Sooners have built quite the wide receiver depth chart under position coach [autotag]Emmitt Jones[/autotag] in his year and a half in Norman.

In the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag], the Sooners have already added [autotag]Gracen Harris[/autotag], [autotag]Elijah Thomas[/autotag] and most recently [autotag]Marcus Harris[/autotag]. Now, the Sooners may be closing in on another target, four-star wide receiver Cortez Mills.

Mills was recently in Norman for an official visit with the Sooners, and while he was at one point projected to land with Clemson, it looks like Oklahoma has taken a lead in his recruitment.

Parker Thune and Brandon Drumm of OU Insider and Rivals issued futurecasts favoring Oklahoma for the four-star prospect out of South Florida.

Mills is a natural at wide receiver. He displays a great understanding of how to attack zone coverage, finding soft spots and slowing his route to give his quarterback an option against zone. He displays enough speed to get behind the defense. Mills has soft hands and shows the ability to play above the defender to make contested catches. He has good contact balance, creating yards after the catch to create big plays in the passing game.

Mills was expected to take an official visit to Miami, but after meeting with the Sooners, he took to social media to announce he’d no longer be taking the trip to South Beach.

He’s a top 200 prospect across the board and considered the No. 69 player in the 2025 recruiting class by Rivals. On3 and ESPN have him inside the top 110 in the nation.

Mills holds 27 Power Four offers, including nine from SEC schools. This will be a recruitment to watch as Jones and the Sooners made a strong impression during his official visit.

Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from 4-star WR Marcus Harris

The Oklahoma Sooners added another blue-chip prospect to the 2025 recruiting class with the commitment of 4-star WR Marcus Harris.

The Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver group continues to fill out for the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag]. After hosting [autotag]Marcus Harris[/autotag] on an official visit over the weekend, the four-star prospect out of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Ca. has committed to the Sooners.

Harris is considered a top 250 prospect across the board and is a consensus four-star wide receiver, ranking inside the top 30 at the position by each of the four major recruiting sites. ESPN has him ranked the highest, coming in as the No. 10 wide receiver and the No. 118 player overall in the 2025 class.

It’s another big recruiting win for Oklahoma and wide receivers coach [autotag]Emmett Jones[/autotag] as Harris chose the Sooners over offers from Georgia, Tennessee, UCLA, and Oregon. He held 26 Power Four offers, with 11 coming from SEC programs.

Harris shows a great understanding of how to play the wide receiver position. He shows fantastic quickness and does a great job setting up the defender to create separation out of his breaks. He’s a tough player at the catch point, showing really good concentration in contested catch situations. Harris also displays the ability to adjust to the ball in the air, coming back for the ball or adjusting his route to get his hands to the ball and bring in the catch.

He was primarily used as an outside wide receiver, but shows the necessary traits, like quickness, route running, and toughness to be a threat out of the slot as well.

Harris joins a class that includes wide receivers, [autotag]Elijah Thomas[/autotag] and [autotag]Gracen Harris[/autotag].

The commitment puts the Oklahoma Sooners just in front of the USC Trojans in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings for the 2025 cycle.

4-star Mater Dei WR Marcus Harris announces college commitment

Oregon Ducks football recruit Marcus Harris announced his college commitment on Monday morning.

The Oregon Ducks were in the running to land 4-star wide receiver Marcus Harris, one of the top-ranked prospects on the West Coast, but he decided to go elsewhere on Monday morning.

Harris, who is a Mater Dei star, announced that he would be committing to the Oklahoma Sooners, choosing them over Georgia, UCLA, and Oregon. Harris is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 164 overall player in the 2025 class, and the No. 17 WR.

Had he committed to Oregon, Harris would have been the fourth receiver in the class for the Ducks, headlined by 5-star Dallas Wilson.

Oregon has had great success recruiting out of Mater Dei over the past few years, landing guys like 5-star Aydin Breland and 4-star Nasir Wyatt as of late.

5-star OT Michael Fasusi headlines official visitors list for Norman this weekend

Oklahoma is set to host a number of uncommitted prospects headlined by five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi in Norman this weekend.

Official visit season is in full swing, and Norman will see a number of visitors throughout June. Last week, the Sooners hosted several prospects and this weekend is no different.

Right now, the Sooners are ranked No. 7 overall in recruiting for the class of 2025 and trail the USC Trojans. Things are far from over, and there is a real chance that Oklahoma could find itself in the top five when all is said and done for the 2025 cycle.

Last week, names like [autotag]Kade Pietrzak[/autotag], [autotag]Daris Afalava[/autotag], and [autotag]Da’Saahn Brahme[/autotag] visited Norman, hoping to learn how they would fit into life as Oklahoma Sooner student-athletes.

Things went well for Pietrzak. Multiple predictions came in earlier this week favoring the Sooners. Afalava included the Sooners in his top four that he released on Wednesday. So, the visits have paid dividends.

There’s a lot more to be excited about this weekend. Below, we’ve rounded up all the names expected to be in Norman for official visits.

  • [autotag]Michael Fasusi[/autotag], five-star OT
  • [autotag]Cortez Mills[/autotag], four-star WR
  • [autotag]Mark Iheanachor[/autotag], four-star LB
  • [autotag]Elijah Melendez[/autotag], three-star LB (committed to the Miami Hurricanes)
  • [autotag]Trent Wilson[/autotag], three-star DT commit
  • [autotag]Marcus Harris[/autotag], four-star WR
  • [autotag]Makhi Williams-Lee[/autotag], three-star DT
  • [autotag]Floyd Boucard[/autotag], three-star DT

We also wanted to share a few important notes about the visitors. Let’s start with Michael Fasusi, the highest-rated player set to touch down in Norman this weekend. Fasusi’s recruitment has always been between the big schools in Texas and Oklahoma. Things seem to be trending the Longhorns direction, so in many ways, this weekend feels like Oklahoma’s final push to sway things in their direction in a big way. Oklahoma has a few five-star offensive tackles they are in on, and landing one would be a significant boost to this class and a big personal win for offensive line coach [autotag]Bill Bedenbaugh[/autotag].

Iheanachor and Melendez are pivotal recruits because Oklahoma does not have a single linebacker committed for the class of 2025. Both are inside linebackers and will play that position in college. Oklahoma would love to land a commitment from either of them to give them a little depth inside heading into next year. Both are intense, physically fearless players who use instincts to dole out punishment.

Marcus Harris was a late add, but he hails from California, where he plays ball at the famous Mater Dei High School. The West Coast recruitment effect is real with him, but Emmett Jones got Harris to cancel his visit to Oregon and come to Norman instead. That may be a situation to monitor.

Boucard and Williams-Lee will accompany Trent Wilson, the lone Oklahoma commit of the weekend. Wilson will work to convince the other defensive tackles to join him in Norman.

Oklahoma has a weekend ahead of itself. They’ll be rolling out the red carpet. Only time will tell how effective these visits were.
