One NFL insider believes Spartans defensive back Malik Spencer could end up as a first-round pick next year.

Spencer just wrapped spring ball this past weekend and is a lock to be a key player for the Spartans next year. He apparently is also starting to pick up some attention from NFL teams across the league.

Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report put out a tweet this weekend that stated Spencer could find himself landing in the first round in next year’s NFL Draft. Here’s what Schultz had to say about Spencer:

In his first two seasons at Michigan State, Spencer appeared in 17 games. He has recorded 77 total tackles and has defended six passes as well.

Malik Spencer is locked into Michigan State after inking his NLI

A surprise commit back in March, Malik Spencer has held his commitment true throughout the duration of the cycle. The Spartans coaching staff fended off known attempts by Ohio State and Miami to flip the safety from Georgia.

The Spartans ultimately won the battle, earning the national letter of intent signature from Spencer, officially making him a member of Michigan State.

Analysis: Spencer comes from a powerhouse program in the state of Georgia in Buford High School, so it is expected for him to be a step ahead coming into college. Spencer projects as a box safety, and he will be able to support the run game in a very physical manner. His ability cover will ultimately decide how good he is at the next level.

Michigan State football lands commitment from DB Malik Spencer

Michigan State has earned a commitment from Malik Spencer, who has become the fifth member of MSU’s 2022 recruiting class.

Mel Tucker and Michigan State’s staff have struck again, earning a commitment from 3-star defensive back Malik Spencer.

Spencer is a native of Buford, Georgia and plays for Buford High School, a powerhouse among Georgia high school football.

New cornerbacks coach Tavares Tillman is the man to credit with Michigan State’s recruiting win today, the Georgia native himself gives the Spartans a lot of new connections to the peach state, which paid dividends already.

Spencer will most likely translate to the safety position at the next level for the Spartans. He currently ranks in the top-550 players in the country.

A huge recruiting win for the Spartans, beating out the likes of Auburn, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska and USC for Spencer’s commitment.

Spencer becomes the fifth commit in Michigan State’s 2022 recruiting class, joining Kris Phillips, Gavin Broscious, Tyrell Henry and Ashton Lepo. You can find all the info on the 2022 class here.
