Ohio State target Malik Hartford set to announce commitment

Ohio native, Malik Hartford, will make his college decision live on CBSSports Wednesday.

The Ohio State football team is hoping to add another in-state product and keep the walls around the Ohio border secure. The Buckeyes will find out their fate with four-star safety, Malik Hartford who will make his decision on Wednesday, April 6, live on CBSSports.

Hartford is rated as the No. 11 safety in the country by 247Sports composite rankings for the 2023 class. All signs look good for OSU with five crystal ball predictions in favor of the scarlet and gray. Things are never certain until a player is signed, however, at this point, it would be a surprise to see him land anywhere else.

The Cincinnati native will make the announcement from his Lakota West High School at 3:30 p.m. EST with family and friends cheering him on.

Should Hartford put on an Ohio State hat, he would become the sixth member of the 2023 class that is currently ranked No. 7 in the nation. He would also be the second safety to commit to the Buckeyes, joining the No. 22 safety, Cedrick Hawkins, from Cocoa, Florida.

Top 5 football recruits from the state of Ohio in the class of 2023

Top 5 football recruits from the state of Ohio in the class of 2023 #GoBucks

The 2022 recruiting cycle is almost in the books and the Ohio State Buckeyes did very well with a consensus top-five recruiting class in the nation and what is widely considered the best class in the Big Ten by a wide margin. This class has been marked with heavy hitters like C.J. Hicks, Devin Brown, and Kenyatta Jackson.

Another big deal was the reclassification of what was supposed to be a five-star stud in the class of 2023 in Sonny Styles to the class of 2022 and he will be enrolling in time for spring, but it is never too early to take a peek at what the next class has to offer.

Four-star 2023 athlete names Ohio State in top seven

The Buckeyes had another good day — so to speak — on the recruiting trail as they are one step closer to winning a pledge from the in-state four-star athlete, Malik Hartford from Lakota West. One of the heavy hitters in the class of 2023, Hartford has shortened his list to seven with Cincinnati, Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and West Virginia.

Hartford stands at 6-foot, 3-inches, and 175-pounds and is highly thought to be a top 25 athlete in the class. The young gun visited Ohio State unofficially on January 22nd and apparently had a good enough time to elevate Ohio State into his final seven.

Projected as a defensive back at the collegiate level and likely more safety than corner, Hartford will give Perry Eliano and Jim Knowles a chance to flex their recruiting chops.

There’s no pending commitment date at this time and a lot can change from now until when things do become more clear, but we’ll keep an eye on things as the situation changes.
