San Jose Sharks at New York Rangers odds, picks and best bets
Previewing Saturday’s San Jose Sharks at New York Rangers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.
The New York Rangers (32-24-4) host the San Jose Sharks (26-30-4) Saturday at Madison Square Garden at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Sharks-Rangers sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.
Sharks at Rangers: Projected starting goalies
Aaron Dell vs. Henrik Lundqvist
Dell is 12-12-2 with a 2.89 goals against average and .909 save percentage overall. Dell has won three of his past five starts, and eight of his past 14. He has struggled a bit lately, coughing up 12 goals in his previous three starts, and he has dropped each of his past two outings against Eastern Conference teams.
King Henrik is expected to make the start after rookie Igor Shesterkin picked up a 5-2 road win over the Carolina Hurricanes Friday night. Lundqvist has been much better at home, going 8-4-1 with a 2.93 GAA and .9167 SV%, while he is 2-7-2 with a 3.32 GAA and .897 SV% on the road. He has struggled against Western Conference teams, going 3-7-1 in his 11 starts and 13 appearances.

Prediction
Rangers 4, Sharks 2
Moneyline (ML)
The RANGERS (-167) pulled off the 5-2 road win in Carolina, cashing as +155 underdogs. Now, they have a quick turnaround, traveling from snowy Raleigh to New York to battle the Sharks (+135).
San Jose has dropped two straight games, including its first game on the Metro NYC road trip in New Jersey, 2-1, Thursday. The Sharks are starting to sell off assets heading into Monday’s trade deadline, as D Brenden Dillon has already been jettisoned. Expect more to follow. Morale is at a low for the Sharks, and the Rangers will squash them at MSG.
New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Rangers to win returns a profit of $6, while a $10 wager on the Sharks results in a profit of $13.50.
Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)
The RANGERS (-1.5, +155) are worth a roll of the dice on home ice behind King Henrik. New York is on a roll, and the Rangers are 6-2 in the past eight in the second end of a back-to-back situation, while cashing in four of the past five following a straight-up win.
Over/Under (O/U)
The lean is to the UNDER 6.5 (-150), even though the juice is a little high for my liking. If you foresee a lower-scoring game, the UNDER 5.5 (+140) alternative line might be attractive to you. I don’t think this will be a defensive slog, however, and a total of six goals looks good. In fact, a total of six goals (regular time) would cash +375 if my prediction of six total goals connects.

Prediction
Pacers 111, Knicks 96
Moneyline (ML)
The Knicks won at the Pacers in their last meeting, 92-85 Feb. 1 to even the season series 1-1. A couple of things happened in that game that won’t influence the outcome of this contest. First, Marcus Morris Sr. had a game-high 28 points, but he won’t be around for this one as he traded to the Los Angeles Clippers prior to the trade deadline. Second, it was Victor Oladipo’s second game back from a torn quad injury that sidelined him for roughly a year. In that game, Oladipo scored a season-low seven points on 2-of-14 shooting from the field. That New York victory snapped a seven-game losing streak to Indiana, so I expect order to be restored in this one. Look for a decisive Pacers win against a Knicks team that is just 5-15 straight-up as a home ‘dog.
However, the Pacers’ -295 offers a terrible value, so I’m going to PASS.
Line/Against the Spread (ATS)
Despite the Pacers winning seven of their last eight vs. the Knicks, they’re just 2-5 ATS in the last seven games in New York, so they can’t take the Knicks lightly. Why I like the PACERS -6.5 (-110) Friday against the Knicks is because of their above-average defense facing a bottom-3 Knicks defense. The Pacers are ranked third in defensive rating and the Knicks are ranked last. New York also scores the 28th most points per game, have a 26th ranked field-goal percentage and a 28th ranked 3-point percentage. Plus, Indiana plays well against bad teams on the road, going 9-5 ATS as an away favorite and 10-7 against below .500 teams on the road.
Over/Under (O/U)
The Under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings in New York. Each team’s style sets up well for the Under to cash because they are both slow-paced teams. The Pacers rank 25th in Pace, while the Knicks are 21st. Furthermore, the O/U is 9-17-1 in Knicks’ home games. Bet UNDER 210.5 (+100).

Prediction
Wizards 121, Knicks 112
Moneyline (ML)
Both teams are on a roll and are coming in with something to play for. Washington (+125) and New York (-149) have won four of there last six games, plus, the Wizards are now just three games behind the Orlando Magic for the 8-seed in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks are six games behind Orlando, but what scares me about the Knicks side is this illness going around the locker room.
Four Knicks players are listed as probable heading into Wednesday’s game. Robinson is the heart of the Knicks defense and if he cannot play, expect the Wizards’ fifth-ranked scoring offense to get a bunch of easy buckets. Also, the Knicks opponents have the highest 3-point shooting percentage in the NBA, which is great for Washington who has the 11th best 3-point percentage.
BET WIZARDS +120.
Line/Against the Spread (ATS)
The Wizards’ performance on zero days of rest is the answer to this game’s biggest question, which is “how will Washington hold up in the second game of a back-to-back?” Well, the Wizards are 5-1 against the spread in the second game of back-to-backs with a pus-10.2 ATS margin.
Also, the Wizards are 6-2 ATS when playing with any sort of rest disadvantage. Washington has played well when visiting the Big Apple, going 9-2 ATS in the last 11 games in New York.
Grab some insurance and BET WIZARDS +2.5 (-106) to stay within 2 points in a loss or win outright.
Over/Under (O/U)
I am very confident Washington will have success against New York’s defense, but can the Knicks keep up the scoring against the Wizards? I’d say, yes. Washington is the lowest rated defensive team in the NBA and gives up the most points per game.
The Knicks get the most offensive rebounds in the NBA and the Wizards have the second-lowest defensive rebounding rate. Finally, Washington has a 5-1 Over/Under record, with a plus-12.8 ATS margin, in games with no rest.
BET OVER 230.5 (-110).

Los Angeles Kings at New York Rangers odds, picks and best bets
Analyzing Sunday’s Los Angeles Kings at New York Rangers NHL matchup, with NHL betting odds, picks and best bets
The Los Angeles Kings (19-32-5) and New York Rangers (26-23-4) square off at Madison Square Garden at 6 p.m. ET. We analyze the Kings-Rangers sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.
Kings at Rangers: Projected starting goalies
Jonathan Quick vs. Igor Shesterkin
Quick is expected to be back in the crease after yielding to Cal Petersen in New Jersey Saturday night. The American veteran is 11-21-3 with a 3.05 goals-against average and .894 save percentage. One of those wins came against the Blueshirts in Staples Center in the first meeting back on Dec. 10, allowing just one goal on 30 shots.
Shesterkin is confirmed to make the start Sunday. He continues to hum along, going 4-1-0 with a 2.61 GAA and .922 save percentage in his five outings, all at home. It appears he is set up to continue his success, as the Kings are on the second end of a back-to-back on the road and they limp in with a minus-43 goal differential, 30th in the NHL.

Prediction
Rangers 4, Kings 2
Moneyline (ML)
The Rangers (-189) are favored by the exact same line as the Islanders were against the Kings (+155) a few days ago. L.A. fell 5-3 in that one, 3-0 last night in New Jersey and they’ll end up getting swept in the New York Metro area after this one. Still, you can’t risk nearly two times your investment. AVOID.
New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Rangers to win returns a profit of $5.30, while a $10 wager on the Kings results in a profit of $15.50.
Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)
The RANGERS (-1.5, +145) are much better value laying the goals, as Quick has been extremely giving. Yes, the Kings were able to come up with a rare win in the first meeting, but the home team is 4-1 in the past five in this series, with the favorite also 4-1.
If you’re into alternate bets, look to the Rangers (-2.5, +260) for a small investment and solid value.
Over/Under (O/U)
OVER 5.5 (-154) will have you eating a lot of chalk, but it’s a worthwhile play. The over is 15-6-2 in the past 23 games overall for the Rangers, while going 9-3-1 in their past 13 at MSG. The over is also 9-1 in their past 10 against Western Conference foes. The over is 4-1 in the previous five meetings, and 4-1 in the past five in NYC, too.

Prediction
Knicks 109, Magic 104
Moneyline (ML)
The Knicks (+120) are winners of two in a row but have the second-fewest homes wins in the league with seven. Orlando (-143) have lost eight of their last 10 games overall and 9-17 on the road. When favored, though, they are 5-2 on the road. The Knicks are an awful 4-15 when they are home dogs.
That said, the Magic are struggling and the Knicks are on a small roll and get to play at home before hitting the road again. I expect the Knicks to upset the Magic and therefore would take them with the value pick of +120.
New to sports betting? A $10 wager on the Knicks returns a profit of $12.
Line/Against the Spread (ATS)
The Magic are favored on the road at -2.5 (-106). In their 2-8 record over their last 10 games, they covered in their two wins and failed to cover the spread in their eight losses. Overall, they are 13-12-1 ATS on the road and 5-2 ATS when favored on the road.
The Knicks, despite only seven homes wins, have covered the spread 13 times at home this season and are 10-9 ATS when they are home underdogs.
I’m going with the Knicks at +2.5 (-115).
Over/Under (O/U)
The total is set at 205.5 points. The Magic have gone Over in their two previous road games on the trip. The Knicks have gone Over in two of three. The Magic are 14-11-1 O/U on the road, while the Knicks are 9-16 O/U at home.
Even still, with both averaging around 104 points, expect this game to go OVER (-110).

Teofimo Lopez plans to move up to 140 pounds this year
Teofimo Lopez won’t be long for the lightweight division. 2020 is all about unifying first, then moving up to junior welterweight.
Undefeated lightweight sensation Teofimo Lopez wants to become the undisputed champion of the 135-pound division, but he has no plans to remain as such for long.
Once he has unified the titles — or at least has attempted to do so — it’s on to a new weight class.
“I’m trying to get all the belts before I go to 140,” the 22-year-old Lopez told Boxing Junkie.
Lopez was crowned lightweight titleholder by knocking out Richard Commey in the second round last December at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Asked if the plan is to move up later this year, Lopez responded, “Absolutely.”
Of course, as it pertains to the immediate future, the Brooklyn-born Honduran-American has his hands full. He is slated to take on fellow titleholder Vasiliy Lomachenko, who owns two lightweight belts, in the spring.
The Ukrainian is widely considered one of the great talents of this era, a natural 126-pounder who has won titles at 126, 130 and 135 with a rare combination of finesse and offensive firepower.
Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, who promotes both fighters, said he is vetting site offers from Madison Square Garden, Barclays Center in Brooklyn and a delegation from Saudi Arabia. When asked which venue was the front runner, Lopez elected to stay mum on current negotiations.
“We’re trying to have it happen at the Garden, but I’m going to be political,” Lopez said. “My team and I are working on it. I’m letting them handle it. We’re trying to have it happen at the Garden. Some people want it in certain areas. … We’ll see.”
Lopez, who grew up in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn and now lives in nearby Bushwick, believes New York is the right place for the fight given the large Latino and Ukrainian constituencies.
“Of course [I want it at MSG],” Lopez said. “BK all day. That’s my people.”

Prediction
Grizzlies 119, Knicks 110
Moneyline (ML)
Grizzles-Knicks is the second game of a back-to-back for both teams. Memphis beat the Denver Nuggets 104-96 and the Knicks squandered a 13-point lead in a 97-92 loss to the Charlotte Hornets Tuesday. The Grizzlies have performed much better than the Knicks with zero rest days—Memphis is 4-2 with a 2-point margin of victory and New York is 1-5 with a minus-18.7 margin of victory in such situations. Team basketball is the key to the Grizzlies’ success as they have four starters above 15 points per game, are ranked third in passes made and first in assists per game.
It would be a massive letdown for the Grizzlies to lose against the lowly Knicks given their recent hot streak and a win in this game would make them .500 for the first time this season. Memphis is currently on a three-game winning streak and has won 10 of their last 12 games whereas the Knicks are just 4-11 in January. Also, New York struggles against fast-paced teams and Memphis is ranked fifth in the NBA in Pace. Against top-10 ranked teams in Pace, the Knicks are 4-10 losing, on average, 116-109.
HAMMER GRIZZLIES (-143) on the moneyline.
New to sports betting? Bet $143 on the Grizzlies to earn a $100 profit if they win outright.
Line/Against the Spread (ATS)
I lean toward the Grizzlies (-2.5, -115) but officially, we will PASS on an against the spread wager in Grizzlies-Knicks. There isn’t much benefit to betting the Grizzlies line if you’re laying -115, so dump your NBA betting allowance on the Grizzlies on the moneyline.
Over/Under (O/U)
TAKE OVER 224.5 (+105) in Grizzlies-Knicks. We are on the Grizzlies to win outright so logic says the game will most likely be played at their tempo. Memphis has an Over/Under record of 5-1 with zero days off. Of course, we expect the Grizzlies to put up points going against a New York team ranked 24th by defensive rating and 30th in opponent 3-point percentage. The Knicks offense should be able to get buckets against a Grizzlies defense giving up 115.4 points per game. As stated above, the average score of Knicks games when going against top-10 paced teams is 225.
