Steve Sarkisian landed his first five-star prospect as the head coach of Texas on Saturday in quarterback Maalik Murphy. Since Murphy is a California native, Sarkisian’s west coast ties were one of the biggest reasons the Longhorns were able to bring him in.
On the 247Sports composite, the quarterback ranks as the No. 30 player in the country. Murphy has been classified as a pro-style QB and is No. 2 at his position behind only Quinn Ewers. Since recruiting grades were kept, he ranks as the fourth-highest quarterback that Texas has landed.
As with every recruitment, there are pros and cons of taking players into your class. With Murphy, there are a lot more positives than negatives. He projects as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2022 recruiting cycle but his lack of experience will leave questions.
