Jersey numbers for all Ohio State NFL rookies

A look at all the jersey numbers new Ohio State rookies will be wearing in the various minicamps. #GoBucks

NFL rookie camps have begun in earnest for many teams in the league, and that means the six drafted former Ohio State players, as well as some undrafted free agents, have begun the next step of their football journey.

To do that, each of those players had to be assigned a jersey number by their new team. Some may not change from what they wore in the colors of Scarlet and Gray. Others will change because of the NFL’s numbering system or because a current player on the team already has the number spoken for.

Regardless, we know all of those jersey numbers for former Buckeyes newly minted as NFL players, so here’s a rundown of what C.J. Stroud, Paris Johnson, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba will wearing during rookie minicamps and perhaps beyond.

Former Ohio State center Luke Wypler signs rookie contract with Browns

In case you missed it, Luke Wypler inked his rookie contract with the Browns. #GoBucks

The Cleveland Browns seem to have fallen in love with former Ohio State players. They added a couple more in the 2023 NFL draft: Dawand Jones and Luke Wypler.

The Browns wasted no time signing most of their draft picks, including Wypler.

According to the team, the Montvale, New Jersey, native put pen to paper for his official rookie contract this past week. We always say it, but the terms of these rookie deals aren’t always known, so we like to estimate what they mean thanks to Spotrac’s sliding scale and estimates.

Based on current data and expectations, Wypler’s contract is estimated to be 4 years for $4,019,972, with $179,972 guaranteed as a signing bonus.

Here’s where things stand today.

Browns announce jersey numbers for all seven 2023 NFL draft picks

The Browns have announced rookie numbers

It took the Cleveland Browns longer than most NFL teams, but they have finally announced the numbers their 2023 NFL draft class will wear during their rookie season. As rookie minicamp is set to start today, we will get our first glance at the newest members of the Browns and how they look in their new numbers, and in the orange and brown.

Here are the numbers each member of the rookie class will wear in Cleveland in 2023. As always, these numbers are subject to change as the 90-man roster continues to get cut down to 53 by the end of training camp.

Browns: Luke Wypler dubbed as ‘draft steal’ with pick no. 190

The Browns found a gem in the sixth round.

While the Cleveland Browns signed center Ethan Pocic to a three-year extension, there are safeguards in his contract where he could be cut for just $6 million in dead money should his play bottom back out. Drafting Ohio State center Luke Wypler in the sixth round, with pick no. 190 in the 2023 NFL draft, the Browns may have their future starter.

And Doug Farrar at Touchdown Wire thinks the Browns found a gem with Wypler:

“Wypler isn’t the most powerful center in this class at 6-foot-3 and 303 pounds, but he’s smart, tough, and he kept C.J. Stroud clean last season with just one sack and seven total pressures allowed in 449 pass-blocking reps. Wypler is a ready-made technician, and the Browns committed larceny with this pick.”

At the bare minimum, Wypler serves as a solid and healthy depth piece at a position where the Browns saw three centers suffer injuries (including season-ending injuries to both Nick Harris and Dawson Deaton).

Wypler could be one snap from a starting job in 2023.

2023 NFL Draft: The best draft steal for every NFL team

Every NFL draft has its selection of steals — those players who could surprise despite their low selections — and here’s one for every NFL team.

One of the many reasons the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LVII was the job that general manager Brett Veach did outside of the first round of the 2022 draft. Three defensive backs (Bryan Cook in the second round, Joshua Williams in the fourth, and Jaylen Watson in the seventh) were difference-makers all season, and seventh-round running back Isiah Pacheco became the team’s bellcow back down the stretch. Also, second-round receiver Skyy Moore joined Pacheco with touchdowns in that Super Bowl victory over the Eagles.

First-round hits are nice, but it’s almost worse to miss in the first round than it is better to win there from an opportunity cost perspective. If you want to refresh your roster at a championship level, you had better get those picks right on the second and third day. Veach and his staff did that, and it was the difference that made all the difference in the end.

Moving to the 2023 NFL draft, we’ve selected one second- or third-day pick for every NFL team who could have a similar impact on their NFL roaters sooner than mater. Each of these players have reasons for their relatively low picks in line with their tape, stats, and talent, but these are the kinds of finds that can turn a team around over time.

Pathway to production: Which rookies have a good chance to see the field in 2023?

How soon can the rookies find the field in 2023?

Adding seven new faces to their roster through the 2023 NFL draft, the Cleveland Browns have improved their depth at key positions of need. How soon, however, will these rookies find the field in Cleveland to contribute toward wins for the franchise?

Using the stoplight structure, we dive into how clear each rookie’s pathway to finding the field in 2023 is. Green light means they will see snaps from Week 1 on, yellow light means they may have to contribute as a special teamer before clawing their way onto the field at their position, and red light means their chances of seeing the field in 2023 are slim to none.

Another draft has come and gone as the 2023 NFL draft has reached its conclusion. The Cleveland Browns landed seven players, trading out of their final draft slot in the seventh round. Want to see what these guys have on the field?

Here we give you highlights for each of the players the Browns have added to their roster this past weekend. From rounds three through six, the Browns added talent that can contribute from day one even in a rotational or backup role.

Did you miss the draft this weekend? Review all of their picks here!

While the Cleveland Browns traded out of their seventh round pick, racking up a sixth round pick next year, they did make seven selections in the 2023 NFL draft. And while they did not come on the clock until the third round of the 2023 NFL draft, the Browns plucked great value off the board when they came on the clock. Did you miss draft weekend? If so, no worries! Here we will review the Browns’ draft from Cedric Tillman to Luke Wypler.

We have you covered here as we review each selection the Browns made and compare where they were selected to my big board as well as the industry consensus big board created by Pro Football Network’s Arif Hasan.

C.J. Stroud touts new Browns C Luke Wypler as ‘one of the smartest guys I’ve ever been around’

The second overall pick has high praise for his former center.

The Cleveland Browns had a gem fall to them as they came on the clock with pick no. 190 in the 2023 NFL draft. For some odd reason, Ohio State center Luke Wypler still found himself on the board, and the Browns capitalized on that value. Just what kind of player are they getting in Wypler? Just ask the second overall pick and now the quarterback of the Houston Texans C.J. Stroud.

Stroud, who took snaps from Wypler over the past two seasons, has nothing but high praise to speak of the new Cleveland center, calling him “one of the smartest guys I’ve ever been around. Sometimes a little too smart for his own good.”

With two reserve centers suffering season-ending injuries a year ago, Wypler could come in and find himself as the backup center from day-one. And it sure sounds like he is prepared for that.
