Georgia football’s Lawrence Cager is likely out for 2019 SEC Championship against the LSU Tigers. Cager suffered an ankle injury.

Georgia Bulldog star wide receiver Lawrence Cager is likely out for the SEC Championship Game against the LSU Tigers. Cager suffered an ankle injury this past week in practice. Cager, a transfer from Miami, has made a big impact on UGA’s passing attack and is one of the best players in the nation at the jump ball.

Georgia will need Jake Fromm, George Pickens, and more to step up. It’ll be Georgia’s only hope of making the College Football Playoff. Cager posted an emotional message to his Instagram account:

Georgia wouldn’t be 10-1 without Cager, who score clutch second half touchdowns in the Florida and Notre Dame games. It remains to be seen if Cager could suit up for the Playoffs, but let’s be honest, the SEC Championship Game is a de facto playoff game.

Cager has 476 receiving yards and four touchdowns on the season. He was dealing with a shoulder and rib injury before suffering the most recent ankle issue. Best of luck to Cager in his recovery!

The College Football Playoff Committee released their top 25 last night with the Georgia Bulldogs checking in at number four. With rivalry week left in the season, fans can still put together some nightmare scenarios for the CFP Committee.

This scenario is far from a nightmare for the Georgia Bulldogs. UGA is a lock in this situation:

What four teams would you pick? I think these three are locks in this particular scenario:

1. Clemson

2. UGA

3. Minnesota

Beyond Minnesota, who’d feature wins over Wisconsin, Penn State, and Ohio State, I think LSU would get the nod over Ohio State, Utah, Alabama and Baylor. It’d depend how the conference championship went. I’m assuming each championship game is close in this scenario. LSU has slightly better wins than Ohio State. Utah and Baylor’s soft non-conference schedules comes back to bite them. LSU’s head to head win over Alabama would be too much for the Crimson Tide to overcome.

The SEC played numerous cupcakes this past week. Now, the SEC Championship is officially set: the LSU Tigers will face the Georgia Bulldogs in Atlanta.

SEC Mike released his week 14 SEC Power Rankings after last week’s action. Is the criteria of these rankings the best team now? Or the best bodies of work?

Florida over Alabama is an interesting choice, especially since the Crimson Tide only have one loss. Even without Tua, Alabama would beat Florida on a neutral field. Both schools are playing excellent football with their back-up quarterbacks, but haven’t done enough to make the SEC Championship.

If Georgia loses to LSU, then the Crimson Tide may make the playoff despite SEC Mike’s low power ranking. Alabama will need to defeat Auburn and look impressive to make the playoff. It’d be the Crimson Tide’s only ranked win of the season. If the favored teams win out, then Alabama’s resume would be compared with the Utah Utes and the Oklahoma Sooners, who would boast conference championships.

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit released his top-six earlier today and also predicted who’s in the 2019 College Football Playoff if Georgia defeats LSU in the SEC Championship. He assumes all the favorites win out in this situation:

I would have to agree with Herbstreit here. Even if UGA wins big over LSU, then the Tigers should make the playoff over Alabama. LSU’s head to head victory should all-but eliminate the Crimson Tide in this situation.

There are still several chaos scenarios possible including: Minnesota, Michigan, or Wisconsin defeating Ohio State. The Buckeyes may be banged up after facing a stretch of Penn State-Michigan-Minnesota/Wisconsin.

Georgia fans would love the scenario mentioned above. As long as the Dawgs win versus LSU, then Georgia fans will be happy. With rivalry week coming, there’s a considerable chance of another upset this week. Auburn will have a decent chance to beat Alabama, Texas A&M should put up a fight against LSU, and South Carolina has already pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season.

Who do you think would make the playoff in this scenario? What about a one-loss PAC-12 Champion in Utah? The Utes played a soft non-conference schedule, but have played nine conference games.

Georgia football target, second overall recruit sets commitment date

Georgia Bulldogs recruiting target Jordan Burch set his commitment date. UGA, Clemson, Bama, LSU, and South Carolina are his top five.

Jordan Burch, the second-ranked recruit in the country, announced his commitment date today via Twitter. Burch is a five-star prospect, who has been heavily recruited by Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Burch is an athletic defensive-end with a solid build. He also plays basketball and is from Columbia, South Carolina. He plays high school football at Hammond School.

Burch’s commitment is still a month away:

In Burch’s top schools are: LSU, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and South Carolina. He’s projected to join the stacked Clemson Tigers class of 2020. Burch officially visited Georgia in May.

Burch would be an elite addition to Georgia’s talented class of 2020. The Dawgs are still seeking around 8-9 more commitments in their top ten ranked recruiting class.

Kirk Herbstreit ranks college football’s top-four teams

Where is Georgia football in Kirk Herbstreit’s top-four teams.

Kirk Herbstreit ranked college football’s top-four teams on Sunday morning, following an action-packed Saturday in the top-ten.

His rankings actually stayed the exact same, though, seeing as how none of the drama happened at the top, leaving Georgia football at No. 4 after the Dawgs beat Auburn.

I see nothing wrong with that. There was not really a scenario for Georgia to move up and it definitely did not deserve to move down either. No. 4 is a great spot for UGA.

As for Alabama staying at No. 5, I agree with that one, too. I’d leave the Tide where they are until they prove that the Tua Tagovailoa loss is going to hurt as much as we expect it to.

SEC football: week 13’s (soft) schedule, TV times

The Georgia Bulldogs versus the Texas A&M Aggies headlines an otherwise soft week 13 schedule for the SEC.

The SEC Championship race is formality at this point. The Georgia Bulldogs wrapped up the SEC East with a 21-14 win over the Auburn Tigers. The LSU Tigers only need a home win against the pitiful Arkansas Razorbacks to wrap up the SEC West. A Georgia-LSU SEC Championship Game will have serious playoff implications. Even in defeat LSU may still advance to the playoff. The same can’t be said for the Georgia Bulldogs.

This week, Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa suffered an injury that shocked the college football community. Tua is out for the season and the Crimson Tide need a little help to make the playoff.

Here’s the SEC’s week 13 schedule including TV times (central time) and networks. Note that these times are central. For instance UGA versus Texas A&M will have a 3:30 kickoff on CBS:

Georgia-Texas A&M is the best SEC game of the week. The Aggies put together an impressive 30-6 victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks yesterday. Georgia’s College Football Playoff hopes hang in the balance once again. The game will serve as an excellent barometer for the playoff. A&M will have played Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, and LSU by the end of the season.

As for the rest of the SEC, the second best game is probably Missouri-Tennessee. There’s a lot of easy games for teams getting ready for rivalry week.

The Georgia Bulldogs landed fourth in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. UGA checks in as the first one-loss team thanks to their big wins over Notre Dame and Florida. Behind the Bulldogs are in the order: Alabama, Oregon, Utah, Minnesota, Penn State, and Oklahoma.

This week the Dawgs take on twelfth ranked Auburn in what should be a defensive battle. Barring a collapse, Georgia is heading to the SEC Championship Game to play Joe Burrow and the LSU Tigers.

Following the release of the CFP Rankings, their were quite a few takes on who should be ranked where. Here’s some of the best ones:

The Georgia Bulldogs have been ranked third in this week’s version of SEC power rankings. Not surprisingly, LSU checks in at number one. Alabama is ranked ahead of UGA as well:

It remains to be seen where the Bulldogs will be ranked in this week’s version of the CFP Rankings. The rankings release tonight at nine. Georgia versus Alabama will certainly be a topic for debate tonight, but if the Dawgs go on to win the SEC, then they’re a lock for the playoff. If Georgia wins the SEC Championship, and the LSU Tigers’ only loss is to UGA, then both LSU and Georgia get in over the Crimson Tide.

Georgia travels to Jordan-Hare Stadium to face the fifth-ranked team in these power rankings: the Auburn Tigers. This will be a grind-it-out defensive battle that’s expected to be low scoring. It should be the Dawgs’ largest remaining test of the regular season, but Georgia’s College Football Playoff lives are on the line every week.
