Jordan Love hits Romeo Doubs for first Packers TD of 2023 preseason

The first preseason touchdown for the Packers in 2023 was a 9-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Love to Romeo Doubs.

As was the case in 2022, the first preseason touchdown for the Green Bay Packers arrived via a Jordan Love throw and Romeo Doubs catch. Love hit Doubs on a 9-yard touchdown pass with 7:19 left in the first quarter on Friday night against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium.

Doubs worked open from the offense’s right to left against the coverage of Sidney Jones, and Love found him in the left side of the end zone for the touchdown.

The Packers took a 7-0 lead on a 7-play, 43-yard drive. Love extended the drive with a completion to Christian Watson on third down, hit Doubs for 12 yards in the red zone and then finished the march with a nice throw to Doubs again for the score.

Overall, Love is 7-of-10 passes for 46 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions. His passer rating is 112.9.

Things to love and question about Packers’ 2023 draft

A few things to love and a few things to question from the Packers’ 2023 draft class.

The Green Bay Packers picked 13 players in the 2023 draft, including four in the top 100 and nine total picks on Day 3.

The draft class has been generally well-regarded overall. The process of creating the class looks strong, especially early.

Let’s break down the class further. Here are some things to love and some things to question from the Packers’ 2023 draft:

5 things to love, 4 things to question about Packers 2022 draft class

Five things to love and four things to question about the Packers’ draft class in 2022.

The Green Bay Packers made 11 picks during the three-day NFL draft, including two in the first round and four in the seventh round.

For the most part, the work done by general manager Brian Gutekunst has been well-received nationally.

There was a lot to like about the draft class in general. The Packers got bigger and faster overall and better and deeper at several key positions, added more top-tier on defense and gave special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia a few shiny new toys.

Here are five things to love and four things to question about the Packers’ 2022 draft class.

The internet swooned over the story of this couple on a second date at the Diamondbacks game

Ahh, young love.

Connor Buckley is a former college soccer player turned esports star. Last night he flipped open Twitter, where he has 42,300ish followers, to ask the Arizona Diamondbacks if they could give him an update on how his roommate’s date was going.

The Diamondbacks, perhaps in a playful mood or perhaps wisely chasing the clout of affiliating with a popular account among the youth, actually obliged.

What happened next is that the blossoming love story of two wonderful young people was interrupted by the intense scrutiny of being put unexpectedly on display, and now we’ll never know what could have been.

Kidding, kidding. They seemed cool with it and the internet got a kick out of it so let’s watch it unfold, shall we?

Twitter Pens Notre Dame Football Valentines for Valentine’s Day

Here’s hoping your Valentine’s Day has been pleasant, whether you’re single or faithfully devoted to the one you love.

Here’s hoping your Valentine’s Day has been pleasant, whether you’re single or faithfully devoted to the one you love. Whatever your romantic situation is, we all love Notre Dame football here. In fact, some Irish fans have taken it upon themselves to write valentines with that theme using the hashtag #ndfbvalentines. Let’s see what our lovestruck poets came up with for this holiday:

This is not the first year in which Irish fans have written valentines for the holiday. A simple search of the hashtag traces it back to 2018. Of course, it’s nice to see some new ones to reflect everything that happened during the past season. After all, some of them are only as good as the season after which they are written.

As long as we’re on the subject, we’d like to remind you readers how much we love you and your support. We hope you enjoy reading our content as much as we enjoy writing it. Here’s to normalcy and hopefully a crowded Notre Dame Stadium this fall.

Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen: ‘We must Love and Respect each other’

Dan Mullen tweeted on Saturday a message of solidarity with BLM as well as his own reflections on his experience with personal growth.

Florida Gators football head coach Dan Mullen tweeted on Saturday a message of solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement as well as his own reflections on his experience with personal growth the past several months.

Here is what the head coach had to say on his Twitter account on Saturday.

“I have learned a lot over the last several months. We live in a nation that was founded on the idea of freedom and equality for everyone. It is a beautiful idea, however, that has not always been followed. It is up to us to make this idea a reality. This will not happen overnight, but we should not wait until tomorrow to start trying. I have listened to our players and our coaches and although, I can never walk in their shoes or know the feeling of the social injustices they have experienced, I can try to understand and respect the feelings they have. It is much easier to understand that Black Lives Matter when we try to understand and respect the feelings they have. It is much easier to understand that Black Lives Matter when we try to understand the struggles of others and not just focus on our own struggles. We cannot Love each other unless we embrace our differences. We don’t always have to agree, but we must Love and Respect each other. As a football team, we come together from different backgrounds, races and religions. But thru hard work, sacrifice and commitment to each other, we come together as a team and a family for once common goal. No two of us are alike but we are a Team and a Family. What a difference we can all make by living our lives this way. I challenge everyone not to wait until tomorrow, make a difference today.”

Gators Wire staff member Tyler Nettuno talked about the example that Mullen has set among college coaches in his column Friday, pointing out that the third-year skipper is ahead of the curve among his colleagues when speaking out against social injustices. While his words still leave plenty to be desired, it is a great start and a reminder to all of the importance of personal improvement in each and every one of us.

Two Former Notre Dame Stars Listed as “Most Underrated”

A pair of former Notre Dame stars were recently listed as “most underrated” on PFF’s list of such players

If you watched Notre Dame for even a short time between 2016 and 2018 chances are you saw Julian Love or Drue Tranquill make a big play.

Whether it was a pass break up, interception or returning a fumble recovery for a touchdown, the young man just had an ability to make plays on the regular.

Now Pro Football Focus is throwing praise their way as they’ve released the “Most underrated on all 32 NFL teams” list ahead of the 2020 season.  In it they list Julian Love, the second year defensive back as the New York Giants representative and Tranquill as the Chargers rep.

Of Love they say:

The Giants’ secondary has some definite question marks with DeAndre Baker facing possible legal trouble and an unproven group at cornerback behind free agent acquisition James Bradberry. But Julian Love is someone they should feel pretty good about after a promising start to his NFL career as a rookie last season. Love is a guy who graded extremely well at the college ranks as an outside cornerback for the Fighting Irish, earning coverage grades of 83.7 and 90.9 during his final two seasons with Notre Dame. Love followed that up by coming away from the 2019 season with an encouraging 70.5 overall grade despite being a 21-year-old rookie playing a new position. Whether he remains at safety or moves back to cornerback to potentially fill in for Baker outside, Love is a player to watch as he enters his second season.

Love defended three passes last season while also recording one interception and forcing a fumble.

On Drue Tranquill…

3 Love/Hate draft prospects for Chiefs in 2020 NFL Draft

These prospects make perfect sense for the Kansas City Chiefs but will leave them conflicted.

There are things to love and hate about every prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft. As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for the draft, they’ve weighed the positives and negatives of each prospect and adjusted their draft board accordingly.

Below you’ll find three players that fit the Chiefs and have been connected to them often, but each of those players might leave you a bit conflicted about whether Kansas City should consider selecting them in the draft:

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Wisconsin RB Jonathan Taylor

Love: Production

Taylor is easily the most productive running back in this draft class. In three years at Wisconsin, he carried the ball 926 times for 6,174 yards and 50 rushing touchdowns. He also caught 42 passes for 407 yards and five touchdowns to go with it. Add that type of production to the Kansas City Chiefs offense and I’m not sure there’s a team in the league that could slow it down.

Hate: Fumbles

The big concern with Taylor is that he has trouble hanging onto the football. Between 2017-2019 Taylor had 18 total fumbles, putting the ball on the ground at a rate of once every 52 carries. That’s more than a 50% increase to the average in the NFL during the 2019 season. LeSean McCoy, a beloved player by head coach Andy Reid, got sent to the doghouse over putting the ball on the ground twice in 2019. I don’t see how the Chiefs could possibly bring a rookie in with these types of fumbling issues.
