Steelers HC Mike Tomlin on his team’s resiliency: ‘They cut their eyelids off’

Mike Tomlin says it’s just part of the business of the NFL to have to fight back the way the Steelers have this season.

It feels like it is time to accept that the opportunities for the Pittsburgh Steelers to come out and play a full four quarters of football are going to be few and far between this season. But knowing that, Pittsburgh still found a way on Sunday to overcome an ugly two-and-a-half quarters to come back and beat the Los Angeles Rams on the road.

But for head coach Mike Tomlin, he’s more or less decided it is just part of the business of Steelers football.

“They don’t blink,” Tomlin said. “They cut their eyelids off, and they go at it. Like I told them, it’s not a compliment. It’s required. I’m just acknowledging it.”

It is definitely not a compliment that this team falls behind so often only to have to claw back. And while we can appreciate that the team is able to fight back, it doesn’t mean putting yourself in that position is a good thing.

Now the Steelers head home to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars before a short week and Thursday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers.

Tyreek Hill picks Jalen Ramsey among best CBs in NFL

Jalen Ramsey was ranked among the best cornerbacks in football, according to Tyreek Hill

Jalen Ramsey is unanimously viewed as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL by media members and fans. The guys who face him on Sundays would agree, too.

Tyreek Hill, who played against Ramsey twice while Jalen was still with the Jaguars, put the Rams’ All-Pro among the best cornerbacks in the league. He was asked to name the top guys during an appearance on the Laugh Out Loud Network with Kevin Hart, and he put Ramsey up there with Xavien Howard, Chris Harris and Tre’Davious White.

“Some good d-backs, man,” Hill said. “Probably Xavien Howard, Miami Dolphins. He’s real good. Jalen Ramsey is at the top. Chris Harris from the Chargers. Tre White from the Buffalo Bills. Guys like that. There’s a lot of guys.”

In two games against the Jaguars when Ramsey was there, Hill caught a total of seven passes for 72 yards with no touchdowns on 12 targets. In the 2016 game, Hill was targeted once with Ramsey in coverage but didn’t catch the pass. In 2018, he was also targeted once when covered by Ramsey but the pass was dropped by Hill.

So in two games, Hill doesn’t have a catch against Ramsey, which is likely part of the reason he put the Rams corner in the upper echelon of players at the position.

Super Cooper Kupp grab gives Los Angeles Rams Super Bowl 56 victory

Cooper Kupp and the Los Angeles Rams are Super Bowl champs

The Los Angeles Rams lost Odell Beckham Jr. to a knee injury. The pressure then all went to Triple Crown winner Cooper Kupp.

The 2021 Triple Crown winner caught a 1-yard pass from Matthew Stafford with 1:29 left in Super Bowl LVI Sunday at SoFi Stadium to give the Rams a 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

The victory was the Los Angeles Rams’ first Super Bowl triumph. The franchise had previously won a Super Bowl as the St. Louis Rams.

The pass from Stafford to Kupp capped a 15-play, 79-yard drive that ate up almost 5 minutes.

Earlier, it appeared as if Kupp had caught a TD pass but it was nullified by penalties on both teams on the play.

The Bengals’ final drive ended when Aaron Donald nearly sacked Joe Burrow and forced a wild throw that Semaje Perine could not grab for a first down.

Kupp had 8 catches for 92 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Cooper Kupp and an injured Robert Woods shared an incredible moment after NFC title game

“This is deeper than football.”

The Los Angeles Rams lost one of their key players in mid-November when wide receiver Robert Woods tore his ACL in a Friday practice and was quickly ruled out for the rest of the season.

The nine-year NFL veteran, who has been with the Rams since 2017, cheered on his teammates the rest of the year, including last Sunday when Los Angeles rallied back to beat the San Francisco 49ers to earn a trip to Super Bowl 56.

Moments after the game Woods and Cooper Kupp, who had a MVP-type season, shared an emotional moment that NFL Films was able to catch with their mics.
