Studs and Duds for the Lions’ overtime loss to the Seahawks

Here are the Detroit Lions Studs and Duds after dropping their home opener to the Seattle Seahawks in overtime

The Detroit Lions were left disheartened today after they suffered a devastating loss to the Seattle Seahawks in their home opener. The match went into overtime, but the Lions lost 37-31, much to the disappointment of their fans.

Despite their recent victory against the Kansas City Chiefs, the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Lions were unable to maintain their form against the Seahawks, which was frustrating for their supporters. The team had plenty of time to prepare for the game, but their performance was lackluster and below par, which ultimately cost them the win. A combination of injuries and questionable coaching decisions made it difficult for the Lions to recover and make a comeback.

After such a loss, there will undoubtedly be some finger-pointing and analysis of what went wrong. However, there were some positives to take away from the game. Here are some of the Studs and Duds for the Lions in their game against the Seahawks.

Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams banged up for the Detroit Lions

Lions WRs Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams left the first joint practice with the Jaguars with leg injuries

The NFL season is a long and grueling one for the players in this league. But nothing feels quite as long as paying attention to your favorite teams training camp to ensure that nobody gets hurt. For some teams, it’s better than others. But there are times that players get bumped and bruised and that seems to be the case for the Detroit Lions after practice on Wednesday.

During the first play of 7-on-7, Amon-Ra St. Brown injured his lower right leg and it appears to be an ankle injury. He ended up getting it taped, and he did not go to the locker room. Instead, he worked through the injury on the side of the field. While it doesn’t seem to be a major injury, it’s still worth monitoring as it could have long-term effects on St. Brown and this Lions offense.

To make matters worse, the Lions also had wide receiver Jameson Williams come up holding his hamstring after running a route. It’s pivotal for him to be on the field as he had already missed time earlier in camp due to a lower-body injury. Recently, he came back to the field and it felt like he was starting to figure things out. Hopefully for Williams, it’s minor and doesn’t keep him sidelined for long.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Lions decide to play either receiver on Saturday with the Jacksonville Jaguars in town. Tickets for the Lions’ second preseason game are still available, or you can watch at home on Saturday while the game will be broadcast on NFL Network at 1 p.m. EST.

Lions minicamp notebook: First impressions from opening day

Here’s what I saw and learned on Tuesday at Lions minicamp

The Detroit Lions were one of 12 NFL teams to kick off mandatory minicamp this week. Coach Dan Campbell led the Lions onto the practice fields in Allen Park on a cloudy, breezy afternoon.

This was my first visit to the team facility since November, which means it was my first chance to take in the 2022 Lions roster in person. With the action limited by the CBA, today was as much about first impressions on players and trying to keep all the personnel and jersey number changes straight.

Here’s what I saw and learned on Tuesday at Lions minicamp.

While questionable calls may have been the difference maker in their first meeting, this time should be different. The Packers are on a roll with four consecutive victories, including a major 23-10 win in Minnesota last week. Aaron Rodgers completed 26 of 40 passes for 216 yards and one interception. It marked the ninth game that Rodgers had one or fewer touchdowns. No need to worry though, Aaron Jones stepped up for the offense with 23 carries for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Davante Adams is a major threat anytime the ball is in his hands and that bodes well against a Detroit defense that ranks last in the NFL against the pass (282.6 YPG)

Unlike earlier this season, the Lions won’t have Matt Stafford at the helm and are down to their third string quarterback David Blough. Detroit is currently riding an eight-game losing streak after a 27-17 loss to the Broncos. Blough totaled just 117 yards through the air and was sacked four times. Kerryon Johnson rushed for 42 yards on 10 carries in his return from the injury. The Lions will need to establish their run game to find success. Green Bay’s rush defense is ranked 23rd (116.7 YPG), while their secondary has recorded the fourth-most interceptions as a unit this year.

Lions expected to start QB David Blough vs. Bears

The Bears won’t be facing Lions QB Jeff Driskel, who is dealing with a hamstring injury. Instead they’ll face undrafted rookie David Blough.

The Chicago Bears will face an unfamiliar face at quarterback tomorrow against the Detroit Lions.

Third-string quarterback David Blough is expected to start for the Lions on Thanksgiving, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

With Lions starter Matthew Stafford still out with tiny fractures in his back, backup Jeff Driskel has filled in for him over the last three games. But Driskel has been dealing with a hamstring injury in this shortened week. He’s been limited in practice this entire week.

The hamstring injury is enough to sideline Driskel as a starter, but he’ll be available as a backup on Thursday.

The Bears faced Driskel three weeks ago, where the surprise of facing a new quarterback allowed him to utilize his mobility to move the ball on Chicago’s defense.

Blough, an undrafted rookie free agent out of Purdue, was acquired by the Lions from Cleveland following the preseason finale. Blough has received first-team reps during practice this week in preparation.
