Giants injury report: 7 players do not practice, 4 limited

7 members of the New York Giants missed practice on Wednesday (some for rest), and 4 others were limited. Kenny Golladay returned.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday in preparation for a Week 14 game against the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

All eyes were on the walking wounded but the team didn’t offer good news in that regard. Safety Xavier McKinney is “doubtful” to return in time and questions remain about cornerback Adoree’ Jackson and defensive lineman Leonard Williams.

However, a few are trending in the right direction.

The Giants’ Wednesday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: OL Joshua Ezeudu (neck), CB Adoree’ Jackson (knee), OL Shane Lemieux (toe), DE Leonard Williams (neck), OL Mark Glowinski (rest), NT Dexter Lawrence (rest), S Julian Love (rest)

Eagles-Giants: 10 stats to know for Week 14

10 stats to know ahead of the Eagles’ matchup against NFC East rival Giants including Jalen Hurts doing something no NFL QB has done in their first 31 starts

The Eagles (11-) and Giants (7-4-1) are set for an NFC East matchup, with the host from New York badly needing a win to stay in the sixth spot currently in the NFC playoff race.

Philadelphia will look to inch closer toward a division title while maintaining its hold on the top seed and home-field advantage.

Jalen Hurts will return to the scene of one of his worst performances, as the quarterback was 14-31 passing for 129 yards and three interceptions.

With preparation starting for both teams, here are 10 Eagles stats to know for Week 14.

Giants miss walk-off field goal in OT, tie Commanders, 20-20

Graham Gano missed a 58-yard overtime field goal as time expired, leaving the New York Giants and Washington Commanders with a 20-20 tie.

The New York Giants and Washington Commanders locked up in a Week 13 game that had significant playoff ramifications.

You couldn’t tell by how the Giants left the gate, losing a fumble early and falling behind 10-0 in the first quarter. But then they settled in and went on a 20-3 run to bring the score to 20-13 early in the third quarter.

From there, things hit a wall. Both defenses tightened up and foolish penalties on both sides ruined offensive drives. A 52-yard field from Joey Slye also sailed wide, which left Washington down a touchdown.

The Giants twice had a chance to put them game away in the fourth quarter but couldn’t manage. Conservative play-calling and the aforementioned penalties stunted them. A late Darius Slayton drop was also a killer.

A huge fourth quarter conversion with just over 2:00 remaining kept the Commanders alive and they eventually capped the drive off. Several missed tackles allowed Jahan Dotson to stumble into the endzone to tie the game with 1:45 remaining.

The game went into overtime and played out much like the second half. Both teams had a chance to win the game but sloppy play, poor play-calling and miscommunication crippled each side.

Things ultimately ended with a dud and a 20-20 tie as a 58-yard Graham Gano field goal fell short as time expired.

Giants injury report: Darius Slayton comes down with illness

New York Giants WR Darius Slayton was a projected non-participant in practice on Thursday after coming down with an illness.

The New York Giants did not practice on Thursday after giving the players a day off. The schedule change comes as the result of a Thanksgiving Day game against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 12.

On Friday, the team will return to their normal regular season schedule and conduct their final practice ahead of Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders.

The Giants did reveal that cornerback Cor’Dale Flott has cleared concussion protocol, but wide receiver Darius Slayton now has an illness.

The Giants’ (projected) Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: OL Joshua Ezeudu (neck), CB Adoree’ Jackson (knee), OL Shane Lemieux (toe), WR Darius Slayton (illness)

Limited participant: TE Daniel Bellinger (eye), S Dane Belton (clavicle), LB Carter Coughlin (thigh), OL Jon Feliciano (neck) (concussion), CB Darnay Holmes (shoulder), DL Leonard Williams (neck), CB Fabian Moreau (oblique), OL Evan Neal (knee), OL Tyre Phillips (knee), RB Gary Brightwell (illness), WR Richie James (knee)

Full participant: CB Cor’Dale Flott

6 Giants in top-10 by position in 2023 Pro Bowl voting

6 New York Giants are among the top-10 vote-getters at their respective positions for the 2023 Pro Bowl, and one of them may surprise you.

The New York Giants have sent just three players to the Pro Bowl since 2018 (all coming in 2020), but could send as many as six to the All-Star event here in 2022-2023.

Pro Bowl voting is currently underway and six Giants are among the top-10 vote-getters at their respective positions, reports USA TODAY’s Art Stapleton.

They are as follows:

  • RB Saquon Barkley (1st)
  • OT Andrew Thomas (4th)
  • ST Nick McCloud (4th)
  • Graham Gano (6th)
  • S Julian Love (9th)
  • DT Dexter Lawrence (10th)

It’s hard to believe Thomas and Lawrence are fourth and tenth at their positions, respectively. Both are playing at an All-Pro level and should be considered shoo-ins for the Pro Bowl alongside Barkley.

Gano was also kicking at an All-Pro level before an illness derailed him against the Detroit Lions in Week 11.

Defensive lineman Leonard Williams not appearing in the top-10 is questionable, but that’s likely the result of an injury that caused him to miss three games earlier this year.

Pro Bowl selections are determined by the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches — each account for one-third of the final tally. Players and coaches will cast their votes on Friday, December 16.

Giants fans can cast their votes at NFL.com.

Giants fall to Cowboys: Winners, losers and those in between

The New York Giants fell to the Cowboys, 28-20, in Week 12 and here’s a look at our winners and losers (and those in between) from the game.

The New York Giants fell to 7-4 on the season with a 28-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving. It wasn’t as ugly as some anticipated, but it wasn’t necessarily pretty, either.

The Giants blew an early second half lead and couldn’t seem to get anything going again until it was too late. In a game of inches, they came up a few short entirely too many times.

The opportunities were there but Brian Daboll’s group just couldn’t capitalize.

Here’s some winners, losers and in-betweens from Thursday’s loss.

Giants-Cowboys Week 12: Offense, defense and special teams snap counts

The New York Giants lost their Week 12 game against the Dallas Cowboys. Here are the snap counts on offense, defense and special teams.

The New York Giants started strong on Thanksgiving but by the end of the evening, they were the turkeys. Big Blue fell to 7-4 on the season after coming up short against the Dallas Cowboys, 28-20, in Arlington.

The Giants now have 10 days off before a critical game against the Washington Commanders, which will go a long way in determining potential playoff seeding.

There’s a lot to break down and a lot to go over but before we look ahead, let’s look back. Here are the snap counts that contributed to the Giants’ latest loss.

Offensive snaps: 64
Defensive snaps: 75
Special teams snaps: 23

The Giants’ makeshift offensive line took a full load of snaps from left to right a week removed from a major rotation. That includes guard Jack Anderson, who had been benched and inactive in Week 11.

With several defenders out, Jason Pinnock and Nick McCloud took on their biggest workloads of the entire season. Dexter Lawrence and Leonard Williams also got little time off during the game and that lack of rest may hurt them down the stretch.

Giants struggle in second half, fall to Cowboys, 28-20, on Thanksgiving

The New York Giants were the turkeys on Thanksgiving, falling to the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, 28-20.

The New York Giants provided little for fans to be thankful for on Thursday, falling to the Dallas Cowboys, 28-20, in Arlington.

Although Big Blue started off strong, taking a 13-7 lead into halftime, it was they who faltered over the final two quarters. Penalties, missed assignments and sloppy play were once again the contributing factors.

With the loss, the Giants, who started the season 6-1, fall to 7-4 and are at risk of falling out of the playoff picture if their struggles persist.

What we learned from Giants’ 31-18 loss to Lions

The New York Giants fell to the Detroit Lions, 31-18, in Week 11 and here’s some of what we learned from that loss.

The New York Giants stumbled against the surging Detroit Lions at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, falling to 7-3 after a disheartening 31-18 loss.

Here are a few things we learned from the Week 11 disaster.

Giants manhandled by Lions, 31-18, in ugliest performance of 2022

The New York Giants fell to the Detroit Lions, 31-18, in one of their ugliest and least inspiring performances of the 2022 season.

The New York Giants entered Week 11 with a 7-2 record and took on a Detroit Lions team many thought they would dispatch with ease. But that’s not what happened.

With winds swirling at more than 30 MPH, the Giants looked like a shell of themselves. Sloppy play, self-inflicted wounds and injuries would quickly become the story of the game. Even Daniel Jones, who had not thrown an interception since Week 3, turned the ball over leading to seven Detroit points. And then he tossed another.

It was a Murphy’s Law sort of day for the Giants. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. And with a short turnaround before a Thanksgiving Day game against the Dallas Cowboys, Big Blue fell to 7-3 on the season.

There was nothing redeeming about Sunday’s performance.
