The first trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux is here and it looks absolutely wild

The first trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux is here, and it looks … fascinating.

Well, the first trailer for this fall’s Joker: Folie à Deux is here, and it looks exactly like you might think a jukebox musical sequel to Joker about Arthur Fleck and Harley Quinn would look like.

Todd Phillips’ follow-up to the billion-dollar smash hit and deeply polarizing Oscar winner Joker brings back Joaquin Phoenix as the clown prince of crime and teams him up with Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn as they seemingly fall in love and bring havoc upon Gotham City.

We’re not exactly sure what’s going on here, other than Fleck and Quinn seemingly meet in Arkham Asylum and spark an old-school Hollywood romance with each other to the tune of Jackie DeShannon and Burt Bacharach. There also seems to be a big court trial and subsequent protest going on, one where we’re guessing the Joker is the plaintiff and Gotham City (and probably Harvey Dent) are the defendants.

Just from this glance, Phillips is borrowing visually from directors like Martin Scorsese (New York, New York), Bob Fosse (All That Jazz), Stanley Donen (Singin’ in the Rain), Jacques Demy (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg), Vincente Minnelli (An American in Paris) and even Damien Chazelle (La La Land) here as he stages his twisted take on the movie musical.

We only hope the script this time around has much more going for it than the muddled mayhem from the first film.

Some disturbing content to follow:

Whether this is a major improvement from the fascinating-if-flawed first installment or an absolute trainwreck, you cannot say this film looks boring.

We’ll see who gets the last laugh when Joker: Folie à Deux opens in theaters on Oct. 4. Expect a possible film festival bow at Venice later in the summer.

Lady Gaga posts a beautiful Instagram tribute to Tony Bennett: ‘I will miss my friend forever’

This was so beautiful.

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett formed such an incredible bond late in the career of the all-time great singer before Bennett died at 96 earlier in July.

Gaga spoke about how Bennett helped save her when she felt down in her career, and their two albums and many performances showed they really did love working together and being friends.

On Sunday, Lady Gaga posted a long, beautiful tribute to Bennett on Instagram. She spoke about him as a friend, how she’ll never forget him, and how he helped “keep my spirits high and my head screwed on straight.”

And there’s more about loving your elders: “Don’t leave them behind when things change.”

5 beautiful Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga moments, including when she said he saved her

The two formed a beautiful friendship.

Of course we’ll never forget the legendary Tony Bennett for his solo career that spanned so many decades.

But for a whole generation of fans, it was his pairing with Lady Gaga that so many people loved.

They met in 2011, recorded The Lady Is a Tramp together, and then the two superstars did two albums — Cheek to Cheek and Love for Sale, packed full of American Songbook classics.

She’s spoken with so much reverence and love for Bennett as their friendship over the years. So let’s look back on some of their best moments together:

Top 10 musical artists that need to perform at Notre Dame Stadium

Who do you want to see play in South Bend?

According to the website setlist.fm, Johnny Cash was the first artist to play at Notre Dame Stadium in 1977. That would be the last musical performance at the stadium until Chicago played at halftime of the Irish’s 2017 game against USC. Since then, Chicago has come back for one other game, and Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood have played there twice apiece. Weezer appeared there for the 2019 Winter Classic, and Billy Joel played a full show there in 2022.

Other than that, Notre Dame Stadium has a very paltry history when it comes to hosting big musical acts. I don’t know or care what’s behind that. I just want to see Notre Dame Stadium become a hot spot for concerts like most other stadiums around the world are when they don’t have games to host. Plus, such things only can be a boost to South Bend’s economy, and those shouldn’t have to happen only during football season.

Here are 10 artists I believe need to add Notre Dame Stadium to their next tour:

6 photos of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux

Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn!

New photos of Lady Gaga in character as Harley Quinn on a New York set for Joker: Folie à Deux — which translates to “madness for two” — emerged Saturday, and the musician and actress looks stunning in red with haunting clown makeup.

Gaga is taking on the villainous role in the sequel to the 2019 film, Joker, which starred Joaquin Phoenix — who took home the Oscar for Best Actor as the title character — and was directed by Todd Phillips. Both have reprised their roles for the next installment. However, as Variety notes: “The ‘Joker’ sequel will not play a role in the narrative continuity of other upcoming DC films.”

While shooting a scene in New York, photographers captured moments from the performance, as Gaga’s Harley Quinn is outside a courthouse. With a Gotham police escort, she passing through protestors and supporters who are holding signs like “Free Joker,” “Joker Marry Me” and “No Justice, Not Guilty, Not Joking.” And the clown vibes are, of course, very present in this moment.

Per IMDB, the film is expected to be released in October 2024.

Here’s a look a few photos from of Lady Gaga from the set:

Lady Gaga performs powerful version of ‘Hold My Hand’ at the Oscars

A stripped-down performance from the outgoing pop star.

Lady Gaga was a late addition to the lineup of performers for Sunday night’s Oscars, but she belted out a powerful and emotional rendition of Top Gun: Maverick‘s hit “Hold My Hand.” Before starting to sing, Gaga — who changed from her dramatic gown into a black t-shirt and torn jeans for the performance — spoke into the mic about how heroes are all around and that the song was deeply important to her. “You might find that you can be your own hero, even if you feel broken inside,” she stated.

Rather than a glitzy performance, Lady Gaga kept things simple having removed her makeup from earlier in the evening and opting for a single French braid. Her voice was powerful and strong as she belted out the lyrics.

It was wonderful.

Tom Cruise is reportedly skipping this year’s Academy Awards

Don’t expect Tom Cruise at tonight’s Academy Awards ceremony.

With the 95th Academy Awards just hours away, one of the night’s biggest stars will reportedly be elsewhere.

Deadline has reported that Top Gun: Maverick star Tom Cruise will not be attending this year’s Oscar ceremony despite being nominated as a producer in the Best Picture category.

Cruise is reportedly in the United Kingdom filming 2024’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, and he has reportedly opted to stick with his production schedule instead of amending it to attend Hollywood’s biggest night.

If Top Gun: Maverick won Best Picture, longtime producer Jerry Bruckheimer would likely be one of the film’s representatives to accept the trophy.

Filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie and Skydance Media CEO David Ellison are also nominated, though McQuarrie is likely with Cruise directing next year’s Mission: Impossible film.

Although, Lady Gaga will be attending the ceremony to perform the song “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick.

There will be plenty of celebrities in attendance at this year’s Academy Awards, even if Cruise is nowhere to be found.

You can check out our printable Oscars ballot to fill out your picks ahead of this evening’s ceremony, and you can check out our two sets of predictions.

Lady Gaga might perform a virtual concert in Fortnite

Fortnite leak hints that Lady Gaga is the next musician to enter Epic Games’ battle royal.

It’s looking awfully likely that Lady Gaga will be in Fortnite soon, potentially to perform an in-game concert.

On Tuesday, FNLeaksAndInfo, a popular Twitter account that regularly leaks Fortnite events and collaborations, shared audio of an all-new “Jug Band” collaborative emote (thanks, Kotaku). When four players use it together, a fiddle cover of Laga Gaga’s certifiable banger “Poker Face” plays. If you (somehow) haven’t heard the song in a while, have a quick listen on YouTube. Context is key and all that good stuff.

Now, listen to a preview of the Jug Band tune below. It’s unmistakably “Poker Face,” particularly the chorus.

That’s not the only bit of evidence, either. On Wednesday, Epic Games announced the Rainbow Royale, a virtual festival celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community. The official press release mentions that music from Janelle Monáe, Lil Nas X, Todrick Hall, King Princess, Kim Petras, and Lady Gaga will be listenable via the in-game radio. So in some fashion, she’s involved.

Furthermore, there were leaks about a potential Lady Gaga crossover with Fortnite more than a year ago. So it might finally be happening. Say a short prayer for monsters everywhere.

Of course, Lady Gaga wouldn’t be the first major artist to put on a show in Fortnite. Travis Scott and Ariana Grande did the same last year.
