DL L.J. Collier gets minimum salary with veteran benefit

Collier gets a deal worth a little more than the league minimum, and the Cardinals get a little bit of cap relief.

The Arizona Cardinals announced they agreed to terms with former Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman L.J. Collier, a first-round pick in 2019.

Collier never lived up to expectations as a pass rusher, as he has only three career sacks.

The Cardinals are getting him on a cheap deal.

According to Aaron Wilson, the Cardinals signed him to a one-year contract that qualifies for the veteran benefit.

He will make the league minimum of $1.08 million.

He has total bonuses of $157,500, which includes signing and roster bonuses.

His total cap hit will be for less than the amount he will get paid, qualifying for the veteran benefit.

It is a low-risk deal with a potentially high reward.

After four disappointing seasons with the Seahawks, he has a chance to turn his career around and get a good contract in 2024.

Cardinals add former Seahawks DL L.J. Collier on one-year deal

The Cardinals add former Seahawks first-round pick L..J. Collier in free agency.

The Arizona Cardinals announced three additions in free agency on Tuesday. Two players were brought back and a third was an outside free agent. The team announced it agreed to a one-year contract with former Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman L.J. Collier.

Collier was a first-round pick in 2019 and never lived up to expectations.

He is listed at 6-foot-2 and 291 pounds.

The 27-year-old appeared in only eight games last season and had seven tackles, a tackle for loss, a quarterback hit and two pass breakups.

He has three career sacks, all in 2020.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Cardinals plan on using him all over the defensive line.

It is a potentially high-upside addition that won’t cost much.

Perhaps what Collier needs is a change of scenery to blossom.

Seahawks announce 5 moves, including activating L.J. Collier from IR

Here’s a quick rundown of today’s moves.

The Seattle Seahawks have announced several roster moves today, including activating former first-round pick L.J. Collier from the injured reserve list.

Here’s a quick rundown of today’s moves.

It’s ‘realistic’ Seahawks defensive end L.J. Collier will play Week 5

Designated to return to practice from the injured reserve, Seattle Seahawks defensive end L.J. Collier has a chance to play Week 5.

[autotag]The Seattle Seahawks revealed some good news on Wednesday when coach Pete Carroll provided an injury update on defensive end, L.J. Collier. Collier was designated to return to practice and has a chance to play Sunday in New Orleans against the Saints.

“Yes, it’s realistic,” Caroll told reporters during his press conference. “He’s got to put together a great week.”

Collier has been on the Seahawks’ injured reserve since the start of the season with an elbow injury. The defensive end had three weeks to practice before he needed to be activated, but he was called up sooner than later.

“Generally, we’d like to go a couple weeks getting the guy back,” Carroll continued. “He’s been working very hard and it’s an elbow injury. It’s not his legs and all that. He’s in really good shape right now. So, we got to see what happens though.

“We’ll see how the week goes.”

Seahawks sign familiar face to practice squad, designate L.J. Collier for return

The Seahawks announced a couple of roster moves just before noon local time.

The Seahawks announced a couple of roster moves just before noon local time. The team is signing former center Joey Hunt to the practice squad and is desginating defensive end L.J. Collier to return from injured reserve.

Hunt previously played 34 games in Seattle from 2016-2019, earning 11 starts. This could be related to starter Austin Blythe showing up on last week’s injury report with a hamstring injury. He did not miss any practice, though – so it’s possible they are expecting him to play and this is a just-in-case type of signing.

As for Collier, the former first-round draft pick has been on injured reserve since the start of the season due to an elbow injury during training camp. Collier also missed five games as a rookie and seven more games last year. The Seahawks now have three weeks to put him on the active roster or else he has to stay on IR for the rest of 2022.

Seahawks re-sign CB Justin Coleman, place DE L.J. Collier on IR

There’s one more point of business to get to.

The Seahawks made a bunch of moves today, including picking up two players off waivers and signing 12 players to their practice squad.

There’s one more point of business to get to.

The team just announced that veteran cornerback Justin Coleman has been re-signed after he was released as part of their initial 53-man roster cuts. To make room for him on the roster, defensive end L.J Collier has been placed on injured reserve.

Coleman should project as the team’s starting slot corner, at least until rookie Coby Bryant is ready to take over.

Collier will be required to miss the first four games of the regular season.

Seahawks declining fifth-year option for DE L.J. Collier

The Seahawks are declining the fifth-year option on defensive end L.J. Collier, according to a report by Jeremy Fowler at ESPN.

The Seahawks are declining the fifth-year option on defensive end L.J. Collier, according to a report by Jeremy Fowler at ESPN.

This development hardly comes as a surprise. Collier (26) has had one promising stretch in Seattle during the 2020 season, totaling three sacks and seven quarterback hits that year. However, he produced very little both in his rookie year and during the 2021 campaign. The team reportedly had discussions about trading Collier around the deadline but got no takers.

Collier not getting his option picked up is the latest in a long line of failures for the Seahawks in this department. In fact, to date they have only picked up one fifth-year option, which they did a few weeks ago on tight end Noah Fant – who came over as part of the Russell Wilson trade. This speaks to some pretty awful decision-making in the first round of the draft over the years.

ESPN names L.J. Collier as Seahawks player most in need of a change of scenery

Collier is just 26 and has one year left on his contract.

The Seahawks have made a habit of whiffing on their first-round picks in recent years. While there are exceptions like Jordyn Brooks, more often than not those selections have been used on players that have not panned out in the NFL, at least not yet.

One example is defensive end L.J. Collier, Seattle’s choice in the first round of the 2019 draft. Collier showed some potential during the 2020 campaign, posting three sacks, seven quarterback hits and 17 pressures. However, he fell out of the rotation this past season and the team reportedly tried to shop him around the trade deadline but got no takers. Collier was only on the field for 218 defensive snaps, 30% of the team’s total.

Heading into 2022, ESPN has named Collier as the one Seahawks player who could most use a change of scenery.

“The 29th pick of the 2019 draft was a healthy scratch in seven of the first 10 games of last season as Seattle went with bigger bodies in the middle of its new-look defensive line. If the Seahawks stick with that in 2022, then they might again view Collier as too small to play inside and not twitchy enough to play on the edge.”

Collier is just 26 and has one year left on his contract.

Collier didn’t spend much time out of the action as he had just been placed on the list on Monday.

Now that Collier has returned to the active roster, the Seahawks have just two players remaining on the reserve/COVID-19 list – cornerback Bless Austin and guard Damien Lewis.

Seattle hosts Detroit Sunday at Lumen Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:25 p.m. PT.
