How to Watch Boston Celtics this season live online.

The Boston Celtics experienced plenty of roster turnover heading into the 2019-20 NBA season, with key players leaving for other teams, but also joining the squad. The question for the Celtics this season will be whether or not head coach Brad Stevens can pull all of those pieces together to create a winner in Boston once again.

The key to this season for the Celtics will be Kemba Walker, who was acquired in the offseason following his time with the Charlotte Hornets. Walker is a proven leader on the court and one capable of scoring in a variety of ways. More important than his impact as a player will be his impact from a team chemistry perspective, as he replaces Kyrie Irving at the point this year.

Also interesting will be how the Celtics replace Al Horford. Horford was one of the key rebounders for the Celtics last season, and his ability to spread the floor and shoot as a big was key to the Celtics offensively. The C’s will need to take more of a team focused approach to rebounding now that Horford has left for a division rival in Philadelphia. A big blow to begin the season was Gordon Hayward fracturing his hand just a few games into the season. It’s not yet known how long he’ll be out for, but he’s an important piece to the team.

As a whole, the Celtics have plenty of talent and have as good a chance as any team to win the Eastern Conference. The question now is whether or not they can reach their potential.

Prediction

Nuggets 111, Nets 99

Moneyline (ML)

PASS. The Nuggets (-455) are expensive on the moneyline whether or not Irving is able to play. It’s a good idea to avoid this line completely.

New to sports betting? Every $1 wagered that Denver wins profits $0.22 if the Nuggets prevail. (Ex: Bet $10 to win $2.20, $20 to win $4.40, $45.50 to win $10).

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Take the NUGGETS (-9, –110) regardless if Kyrie plays or not. Keep in mind you’ll be going against all of the series trends, as the Nets (+9, -110) are 5-1 ATS in the past six trips to Denver, 9-2 ATS in the past 11 meetings, and the underdog is 6-2 ATS in the past eight in this series.

However, those series trends are all when the Nets did not have Irving in their backcourt. Of course, that might also be the case Thursday might, too.

Over/under (O/U)

With Irving’s availability in doubt, question, the O/U is off the board as of this publishing.

However, if the line is posted, the UNDER (whatever it is) the play regardless of Irving’s status, as Denver’s recent trends drive this pick. The under is 4-1 ATS in the past five overall for the Nuggets, while going 11-2 in their past 13 against Eastern Conference foes and 18-7 ATS in the past 25 at home.

Kyrie Irving questionable against Nuggets

Kyrie Irving may miss Thursday night’s game against the Denver Nuggets.

The injury bug is evidently besetting more than a few Brooklyn Nets players before they take on the Denver Nuggets.

With Caris LeVert joining the team’s inactive list for at least the short term while a decision is made about the best course of action for the Michigan product regarding his thumb, it seems the team will be even thinner for Thursday’s matchup with Nuggets.

The Nets announced star point guard Kyrie Irving may not play in one of the team’s tougher games of the still-young season. Officially designated as questionable for the contest with a shoulder impingement, Irving would join LeVert, Kevin Durant (Achilles), and Wilson Chandler (suspension) if he’s ultimately deemed unavailable.

Following the update on Irving’s health, the Nets announced the signing of free agent guard Iman Shumpert, who will fill the 6th roster slot opened due to Chandler’s suspension (25 games) for violating the NBA’s drug policy, which should smooth the difficulty of a potential Irving absence.

Nets struggle in second half vs. Jazz, now 1-2 on road trip

Kyrie Irving had a rough shooting night for the Brooklyn Nets in the loss to the Utah Jazz.

The Brooklyn Nets performed far better in the first quarter of Tuesday’s game than they have of late. They proceeded to build on their strong start by carrying a 68-53 lead into halftime.

The Utah Jazz proceeded to flip the script and handed Brooklyn it’s second loss of the five-game road trip with a 119-114 finish.

Previously, Kenny Atkinson discussed how the Nets struggle to get stops, especially early in games or when they’re also struggling on offense. The latter was the problem in the second half.

After a rough third quarter, things got worse for the Nets in the fourth quarter — yet they still had a chance at the end. They simply couldn’t get it done offensively.

Kyrie Irving took 30 shots. He only made 10 of them. Twelve of his attempts were from beyond the arc. He only made two of those. Not at all a good shooting night for Brooklyn’s point guard, despite the fact he finished up with 27 points.

Garrett Temple got the start in place of the injured Caris LeVert and finished in double figures (10), as did fellow starters Joe Harris (11) and Taurean Prince (15). Spencer Dinwiddie (21) and DeAndre Jordan (15) also finished in double figures.

Jordan (6-for-8 shooting) and Prince (6-for-9, 3-for-5 from three) were the Nets’ most efficient shooters in the loss.

Jordan also grabbed 17 rebounds while logging two blocks and two steals. Irving and Jarrett Allen each had two blocks, as well.

Another notable stat: Harris had a -22 plus-minus. He and Allen (-14) were the only two Nets with a negative, double-digit plus-minus.

Where are they now? The Class of 2010 in boys basketball

USA TODAY High School Sports revisits the boys basketball recruiting Class of 2010 and what its members achieved in college and the NBA in the subsequent decade.

As boys basketball Early Signing Period gets underway Wednesday, a new cast of players hoping to be the stars of the future will officially end their recruitment.

On this day, fans will see which schools sign the best high school prospects and position themselves for success in the coming seasons.

With that in mind, let’s take a look back to the signing class one decade ago, the 2010 class, and what became of its top recruits.

High school stats and info are compiled from MaxPreps or the player biography on the respective college websites, unless otherwise stated. The class ranking is based on the 247Sports Composite.

Harrison Barnes

School: Ames (Iowa)
College: North Carolina
NBA team: Sacramento Kings
Noteworthy: Barnes looked like the next big thing when he enrolled at North Carolina as the No. 1 player in the Class of 2010. Named the 2009-10 ALL-USA Player of the Year, he averaged 27.1 points, 10.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game, became the school’s all-time leader in points and lead Ames to back-to-back undefeated championships. He was drafted by the Golden State Warriors, where he won a title in 2015 and has since played for the Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings.

Two talented teams meet in Boston Monday when Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks visit TD Garden to take on the surging Celtics. While it’s certainly way too early to proclaim anything wild, at the rate these two teams have opened the season, we could possibly be seeing an NBA Finals preview.

The Mavs have enjoyed a bright start to the season, opening with a very nice 6-3 record. The story of their opening stretch has to be the play of second-year phenom Luka Doncic. The Slovenian guard is percentage points away from averaging a triple-double through nine games this season. With 28.1 PPG, 10.4 RPG and 9.2 APG to his name, the youngster is becoming one of the must-see names in the entire league. If he continues on this pace, there’s a strong chance he’ll be mentioned heavily when the talk of NBA MVP heats up later in the season. Doncic put up 24 points and 14 rebounds in a 138-122 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday.

While Dallas has impressed early on, the Celtics are only one of two teams with just one loss so far this season. A 7-1 start has to be extremely satisfying for Boston fans after losing their most high-profile player, Kyrie Irving, via free agency in the offseason. A 135-115 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday will do nothing to quell their enthusiasm. Jalen Brown’s 30 points along with Kemba Walker’s 26-point effort led the way for the C’s. However, it wasn’t all good news. Gordon Hayward’s unfortunate injury streak continued in the game, fracturing his hand in the win. It’s not yet known how long he’ll be out for, but he’ll be sorely missed. Hayward averaged 20.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists through seven games.

Don’t expect Kenny Atkinson to change Nets starting lineup yet

The Brooklyn Nets are off to a rocky start, but Kenny Atkinson isn’t going to make a personnel change just yet.

Brooklyn’s starting five had a rough go against the Phoenix Suns — to put it mildly.

Kyrie Irving was the only one in double figures. Even then, he wasn’t at his best, finishing 1-for-6 from three while failing to earn a trip to the free-throw line.

Jarrett Allen hardly played because he was in foul trouble so early.

Joe Harris missed all four of his 3-point attempts.

Taurean Prince went 3-for-5 from the floor (2-for-3 from three), but made mistakes elsewhere throughout the game and played a measly 17 minutes as a result — only five more minutes than Allen.

Caris LeVert was the only Nets starter who didn’t have a -20 plus-minus or worse (-15), but he still didn’t play his best game.

While the loss to Phoenix was next-level for the Nets, they’ve consistently struggled defensively in the first quarter to start the year. Even after acknowledging the issue, Kenny Atkinson isn’t ready to change Brooklyn’s starting lineup.

I’m not ready to go there after one bad game.

Kyrie Irving’s lack of free throws vs. Suns problematic

Kyrie Irving took a lot of the blame for what went wrong in the Brooklyn Nets loss to the Phoenix Suns.

One thing Kyrie Irving has done well with to start 2019-20 is getting to the free-throw line. He hasn’t always excelled at creating contact on shots or drives, but this is also a result of his ability to elude contact — something he usually does better than anyone.

Entering Sunday’s game, Irving was averaging 7.3 free throws per game. He’s never even averaged five attempts per game over the course of the season.

Then, against the Suns, Irving did not earn one trip to the line. It’s the first time he’s failed to do so with the Nets. Last year, as a member of the Boston Celtics, Irving didn’t take at least one free throw in a game 13 times.

And his lack of free throw attempts impacted the Nets beyond his point total. Irving explained to reporters in Phoenix:

I don’t think I shot one free throw tonight. That’s just a telltale sign of how aggressive I am not in the game. You know, getting downhill and really just setting a precedent of really slowing the game down and really getting it to my spots. So, a lot of the accountability falls on me.
