ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit has ranked his top six college football teams all season. Who does Herbstreit has as the top teams in the final College Football Playoff rankings of 2022?

The Georgia Bulldogs won the SEC championship against the LSU Tigers. Georgia’s 50-30 SEC championship victory was convincing, but did expose some of the Bulldogs’ potential weaknesses.

Michigan won the Big Ten championship against Purdue, who put up a fight. TCU fell in the Big 12 championship in a close game to Kansas State and USC lost to Utah in the Pac-12 championship to crush the Trojans’ CFP hopes.

Georgia nearly lost on the road at Missouri and trailed for most of the game. The Bulldogs won, but have lost some ground in the rankings as a result of the disappointing performance.

Additionally, Alabama’s star quarterback Bryce Young exited the Crimson Tide’s win over Arkansas with a shoulder injury. Clemson knocked off NC State in a key game for the ACC standings.

Ohio State football continues to roll. The Buckeyes are 5-0 and have arguably the best offense in the country along with an improved defense. The USC Trojans beat Arizona State 42-25 and Mississippi defeated Kentucky in other notable action.

ESPN College GameDay analyst Kirk Herbstreit recently ranked his top-eight performing teams from Week 1.

This is not meant to be viewed as a power ranking, but simply which team performed the best given their circumstances.

This includes unranked teams beating ranked opponents (Virginia Tech beating UNC, UCLA beating and LSU), impressive victories (Georgia and Penn State), and some Group of Five schools (Charlotte and Northern Illinois) taking down big programs.

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit released his latest rankings of the top six teams with hopes of making the College Football Playoff. There’s only one week left to go in college football, but this upcoming week will feature the SEC and ACC Championships, which both have CFP implications.

There weren’t  many top teams playing in Week 15’s action. LSU upset Florida behind a boot from kicker Cade York and a show throw from Florida defensive back Marco Wilson in the biggest game of the week.

Clemson, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Iowa State, Cincinnati, and Ohio State all either had the week off or had their games postponed. The Cincinnati Bearcats haven’t played in nearly a month. Alabama cruised past Arkansas in another dominant victory. The Crimson Tide look like college football’s top team this season.

In the ACC, Notre Dame and Clemson are going to have a rematch in the ACC Championship. The winner of that game certainly makes the CFP, but if Notre Dame loses, then they are still going to make it.

Notably, Herbstreit now ranks Iowa State over Georgia and Florida. Iowa State is one of the hottest teams in college football, but they opened the season with an embarrassing 31-14 loss to Louisiana. Yes, Louisiana is ranked, but they still blew out Iowa State.

Georgia has only lost to Florida and Alabama, which are much superior competition than Louisiana. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter because there’s essentially no path to the College Football Playoff for Georgia.

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit named his latest rankings of the top six teams with hopes of making the College Football Playoff. There weren’t many upsets in Week 14’s action. Coastal Carolina knocked off BYU in the biggest game of the week. Coastal Carolina now has a chance to make a New Year’s Six bowl.

Clemson and Ohio State won in convincing conference wins. The Florida Gators slipped by Tennessee and Texas A&M won against Auburn. Indiana defeated Wisconsin cementing one of their better seasons in recent memory. Alabama dominated LSU and the Georgia Bulldog game against Vanderbilt was postponed.

In the SEC, Alabama and Florida are now set to play each other in the SEC Championship. The SEC Championship winner will make the College Football Playoff and either Florida quarterback Kyle Trask or Alabama quarterback Mac Jones is expected to win the Heisman.

In the ACC, Notre Dame and Clemson are going to have a rematch in the ACC Championship. Ohio State looks like the only other serious College Football Playoff contender. Texas A&M could get in if Florida loses in the SEC Championship Game, but the Aggies will need more help than that.

Notably, Herbstreit now ranks Texas A&M over Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Bearcats didn’t play on Dec. 5. They’ll face Tulsa in one of their last games to impress the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.

Cincinnati would need lot help going forward. They still could make the College Football Playoff if Florida and Clemson lose in their conference championships. Still, the Bearcats would need Texas A&M to lose to either Mississippi or Tennessee.

Mel Tucker, a former Georgia Bulldogs assistant coach, helped the Michigan State Spartans defeat Northwestern to eliminate one of the Big Ten’s remaining undefeated teams.

Ohio State’s game against Illinois was postponed/canceled. Clemson crushed Pittsburgh in Trevor Lawrence’s return; the Tigers will be a tough to beat with Lawrence at the helm. Alabama dominated Auburn in an easy Iron Bowl victory without head coach Nick Saban. Florida won an SEC game against Kentucky, and Cincinnati’s game at Temple was canceled. Texas A&M won 20-7 over LSU.

Overall, Michigan State’s win and Alabama’s win were the two biggest storylines of the week. The Georgia Bulldogs do look like College Football Playoff contenders with J.T. Daniels at quarterback, but with two losses, their chances are slim at best.

Ohio State narrowly defeated a pesky Indiana team, Clemson’s game at Florida State was postponed, Alabama dominated Kentucky in a sixty point victory, Florida won in a SEC game against Vanderbilt, and Cincinnati topped UCF.

Overall, Cincinnati’s win and Ohio State’s win were the two biggest storylines of the week.  Another interesting development was the incredible debut performance of Georgia Bulldogs quarterback JT Daniels. Daniels transferred to the University of Georgia after being a five-star recruit, who played at USC, then tore his ACL in a game for the Trojans last season.

In the SEC, Alabama and Florida are on a crash course to play each other in the SEC Championship Game. Will either team be tested in their remaining games? Florida plays Kentucky this week and Alabama plays the Auburn Tigers.

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit released his latest edition of College Football Playoff hopefuls following a quiet week of college football. Week 11 featured numerous cancelled/postponed games including: Georgia at Missouri, Ohio State versus Maryland, and LSU versus Alabama.

In notable college football action, Florida blew out Arkansas 63-35, Miami kept their slim hopes alive with a 25-24 comeback win over Virginia Tech, Notre Dame won handily at Boston College, and Wisconsin demolished Michigan 49-11.

The race for the CFP is coming down to the wire. The Big 12 is essentially eliminated from CFP contention, although Oklahoma State could win out and finish the season with one loss.  The Pac-12 needs either USC or Oregon to win out. Both programs need to look more impressive than they did in Week 11.

The SEC has only three teams with high hopes for making the playoff: Alabama, Florida, and Texas A&M. Texas A&M beat Florida, but trails Alabama by two games in the SEC West. The Aggies will hope to win out and that Alabama will defeat Florida in the SEC Championship. They’ll need more help than that. They’ll root for a two loss loser in the likely Notre Dame versus Clemson ACC Championship.

Ohio State is favored to represent the Big Ten in the College Football Playoff following the conference’s limited season. Wisconsin looks to be Ohio State’s biggest competition in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes have a big game against Indiana this weekend.

Overall, Herbstreit’s rankings look pretty solid. They haven’t changed at all since last week. BYU has been impressive, but its schedule has been very easy, so it would be fair to rank Texas A&M or Wisconsin over the BYU Cougars.

Aside from that, the rankings look good. Notre Dame deserves to be ranked over Ohio State due to its body of work. The Fighting Irish are 8-0 and Ohio State is only 3-0.

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit released his latest edition of College Football Playoff contenders following another week of action. Notre Dame prevailed over Clemson in double overtime and Florida defeated Georgia 44-28 in Jacksonville, Florida.

The race for the CFP is starting to play itself out. The Big 12 is essentially eliminated from CFP contention, although Oklahoma State could win out and finish the season with only one loss.

Now, the SEC only has three teams with high hopes for making the playoff: Alabama, Florida, and Texas A&M. Texas A&M did beat Florida, but trails Alabama by two games in the SEC West.

Interestingly, Kirk Herbstreit ranks the Gators over the Aggies even though Texas A&M won their head-to-head game. That being said, if Florida loses to Alabama in the SEC Championship and Texas A&M wins out, then the Aggies will have a playoff argument.

The problem for the Aggies is they don’t have many impressive wins on their resume outside of Florida. Additionally, they’ll have to cheer against Notre Dame and Clemson in the ACC. The Fighting Irish and Tigers will likely have a rematch in the ACC Championship game. Both Notre Dame and Clemson could make the playoff if they don’t lose before the ACC Championship.

ESPN College Football analyst Kirk Herbstreit has released his latest rankings of the top teams in college football. Herbstreit’s rankings now include the Big Ten conference, which opened up play this weekend.

In the Big Ten, Ohio State had an impressive victory over Nebraska. Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Justin Fields was the star of the game in a 52-17 win.

Additionally in Big Ten action, Indiana upset Penn State, who many thought would be the second best team in the conference. Penn State faces Ohio State this weekend. Michigan was impressive in a blowout win at Minnesota. Wisconsin is anticipated to be the best team in their division and handily defeated Illinois in their opener.

In the SEC, Alabama dominated Tennessee as expected. The Vols are reeling and Alabama is rolling, but the Crimson Tide suffered a key loss when electric wide receiver Jaylen Waddle suffered a season-ending ankle injury. The LSU Tigers looked formidable against South Carolina as well. The Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators had the week off.

Clemson blew out Syracuse at home. Oklahoma State remains the Big 12’s best hope at making the College Football Playoff. The Cowboys knocked off Iowa State 24-21.

Herbstreit’s ratings look pretty good. Notre Dame proved themselves to an extent in a 45-3 win against Pittsburgh. Oklahoma State is more battle tested than teams like Wisconsin and Michigan.
