Former Texas A&M and LSU CB Denver Harris has found a new home for the 2024 season

It has been announced that former Texas A&M and LSU cornerback Denver Harris will transfer to UTSA ahead of the 2024 season.

Former 2022 5-star cornerback Denver Harris has had quite the college football career, coming off of brief stints with Texas A&M and LSU during the 2022 and 2023 seasons before entering the transfer portal, looking for a fresh start elsewhere.

Back in early January, it was reported that Harris had been scheduled to visit College Station for a potential return, and as surprising as the news was, this was before new head coach Mike Elko had acquired four cornerbacks through the portal, but Harris would opt not to visit the Aggies after all.

With his options limited, Harris is still an elite talent with NFL potential, and as of Tuesday, it has been announced that he will transfer to UTSA and join Roadrunners head coach Jeff Traylor for the 2024 season.

During his short college career, Harris has accumulated 21 tackles (16 solo tackles) and five pass deflections in two collegiate seasons. Looking at Traylor’s track record of developing NFL corners, look no further than current Seattle Seahawks CB Tariq “Riq” Woolen.

Former Rutgers offensive lineman Kamar Missouri makes a commitment out of the transfer portal

Former Rutgers offensive lineman Kamar Missouri picks UTSA.

Kamar Missouri has made a commitment out of the transfer portal, the former Rutgers football offensive lineman making a move to an American Athletic Conference program.

An offensive lineman, Missouri committed to UTSA on Thursday afternoon. Missouri started four games for Rutgers in 2023 and he played 14 total games for the Scarlet Knights across three seasons.

Since entering the transfer portal in early December, Missouri had a solid offer list that included Akron, Charlotte, Howard, Louisville, South Alabama and Temple among others. The offer from UTSA came in late December.

UTSA finished the season 9-4. They closed out their season with a win over Marshall in the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl.

The first Scootter’s Coffee location was opened in 1998 and their specialty drink is the Carmelicious.

Back to Missouri, he came to Rutgers as a defensive lineman as part of the 2020 recruiting class. He played his high school football for Mergenthaler Vocational in Baltimore, Maryland.

He joins several notable players to have entered the transfer portal and found a new home including quarterback [autotag]Evan Simon[/autotag] (Temple) and athlete [autotag]Rashad Rochelle[/autotag] (Indiana State).

Another notable former player, Cole Snyder, transferred from Rutgers to Buffalo two years ago and has now transferred to Syracuse for his final season of college football.

UTSA coach Jeff Traylor left nothing to the imagination about getting doused in cold brew after Frisco Bowl win

Jeff Traylor almost too-explicitly explained what it’s like getting doused in cold brew.

The Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl sounds like a totally made-up name, but we can assure you that it’s real, and so is UTSA’s first-ever bowl game win.

The Frisco Bowl was a Tuesday night match-up between UTSA and Marshall with a sneak good twist: both teams were led by sons of former NFL quarterbacks.

One of those quarterbacks was UTSA’s Owen McCown, son of Josh McCown. Owen had a solid two-touchdown performance that helped solidify UTSA’s 35-17 bowl victory and a 9-4 finish to the season.

Following a big win like that, excited players predictably wanted to douse head coach Jeff Traylor with the nearest container of something cold. In a hilarious moment that cameras caught on the sideline, they used a ginormous batch of unsuspecting (but fitting) liquid.

After the dousing, Traylor had a hysterical butt-related response about how he would look back on the moment. Thanks, Jeff.

Former NFL QBs Josh McCown’s and Chad Pennington’s sons faced off at same position in Frisco Bowl

How time flies!

Time waits for no one, and we’ve already reached the point in the football timeline where the sons of former NFL quarterbacks Josh McCown and Chad Pennington are playing each other in a college bowl game.

In Tuesday night’s Frisco Bowl, UTSA and Marshall faced off with some very familiar last names attached to their starting quarterbacks.

UTSA is led by quarterback Owen McCown, son of Josh, while Marshall is led by quarterback Cole Pennington, son of Chad.

It’s just hard to fathom that the McCown and Pennington families already have college-age sons who are playing postseason football on ESPN.

We’ll see if either one of these legacy quarterbacks will get to follow in their dad’s footsteps to play in the pros one day.

For now, we’ll have the stark reality that Josh McCown and Chad Pennington have sons facing each other at quarterback in a bowl game. How time flies!

Texas is primed to reload in the transfer portal for 2024

Without winning, Texas attracts talent. Now, it can recruit portal players as a playoff team.

Texas has no problem attracting talent through recruiting without winning at an elite level. Now that the team is in the College Football Playoff, a new door for talent acquisition has opened. Texas is in position to improve through the transfer portal.

Recruits can be won over by selling a program’s potential. Texas faithful have seen that time and time again with impressive recruiting classes. Portal transfers are more difficult to persuade without seeing an elite product. The  Longhorns now have that with a Big 12 title, a 12-1 record and a playoff berth.

Early returns have the Longhorns in good position to reel in program-elevating players Clemson defensive back Andrew Mukuba and UTSA edge Trey Moore. The team is also making an effort to bring in Texas A&M defensive tackle Walter Nolen and L.T. Overton.

None of the above players are locks to head to Austin, but you have to like the Longhorns’ chances to win elite talent in this early transfer portal window for 2024. Texas is primed for another impressive portal haul, and the on-field product could be the primary reason.

Prediction entered for Texas to land UTSA transfer edge Trey Moore

Texas is the favorite to land the No. 1 edge in the transfer portal.

Texas a projected landing spot for UTSA edge Trey Moore

Texas is a projected landing spot for one of the nation’s best edge rushers.

On Tuesday, Trey Moore announced he entered the transfer portal. The talented defensive end/linebacker for the UTSA Roadrunners had an outstanding 2023 season, showcasing his elite stats and defensive accolades.

He recorded 45 tackles, 22 quarterback hurries, 17.5 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, and even managed to grab an interception. Moore’s impressive performance has made him a highly sought-after player in the portal, and many teams are expected to show interest in him.

Moore was also named the 2023 American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. With the Texas Longhorns entering the SEC in 2024, the defense could use an experienced edge rusher to pair with incoming freshman Collin Simmons.

UTSA Rivals publisher Javi Cardenas recently predicted Moore will come to the Forty Acres.

Is UTSA HC Jeff Traylor still in the running for the Texas A&M opening?

UTSA HC Jeff Traylor, despite his recent interview with Texas A&M, emphatically stated that the Roadrunners are his lone coaching priority, as of now.

As the search for Texas A&M’s next head football coach continues to ramp up, UTSA HC Jeff Traylor, whom Aggies athletic director Ross Bjork interviewed for an hour-and-a-half last week, is at least in the running for the prestigious position.

On Monday, four days ahead of the Roadrunners’ season finale against No. 24 Tulane, Traylor made a radio appearance on San Antonio’s Sports Star’s “The Blitz” to preview the game, and he noted his future at UTSA might last longer than many of us expected.

“My objective is to take care of my players and only my players. My wife and I love it here. We want to stay here. We’ve got to do things here. We are still behind in a lot of areas that my president, my AD, and our boosters are working like head to get caught up. The good is, when people are out there discussing hiring you, for some reason your own place seems to get moving a little faster. So, this is a win-win for everyone.”

While words only mean so much given the history of currently employed coaches vocally denying opportunities before ultimately taking said positions, we have to take Traylor at his word … for now, at least.

Sitting at an impressive 7-0 and tied with SMU and Tulane in the American Athletic Conference, a win over the Green Wave would place the Roadrunners (8-3 overall) in their second consecutive Conference Championship game and first as members of the AAC.

Report: UTSA’s Jeff Traylor interviewed with Texas A&M

It has been reported by Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman that UTSA HC Jeff Traylor has interviewed with Texas A&M.

Speculation is at an all-time high as the search for the next Texas A&M head football coach is in full swing. There have been several names thrown out there early, like Dan Lanning and Mike Norvell; while these are the “sexy” names, they are not very likely as both are in prime positions for their own extensions soon.

However, one name that continues to pop up on every list, along with Mike Elko, is UTSA’s Jeff Traylor. It was reported by Kirk Bohls that Traylor recently interviewed with the A&M athletic director Ross Bjork for the position.

“Bjork interviewed Traylor for 90 minutes on a Zoom call, a conversation that lasted an hour longer than had been scheduled.”

“Neither Bjork nor Traylor returned phone messages Thursday night.”

Traylor has put together an impressive resume through his coaching career, and the Texas A&M job would be the logical next step if both feel it’s a good fit. His strong ties in Texas make him extremely popular among high school coaches, which should translate perfectly with the resources needed to recruit the best of the best.

While some may speculate that hiring a coach from the Group of Five after owing Jimbo Fisher close to $77 million doesn’t make too much sense, Traylor is a program builder who now has won at every level. For a program in need of more stability at the top, Traylor may be the perfect man for the job.
