A look at the highest-rated recruits in Auburn football history

Here are some of the highest-rated recruits in Auburn football history.

In the past 21 years, Auburn has had 80 players drafted, almost four players a year. Some were ranked as four-stars out of high school like Kerryon Johnson, Carlton Davis, and Braden Smith. Those three are currently playing in the NFL. Others, like [autotag]Montravius Adams[/autotag], [autotag]Carl Lawson[/autotag], and [autotag]Derrick Brown[/autotag] were all regarded as five-stars. Interestingly enough, all six of them have had successful careers in both college and the pros.

On the other hand, several of Auburn’s best players over the past few years were not ranked high at all. Both C.J. Uzomah and Dee Ford were both ranked as three-stars by 247Sports Player Rankings. Those two have had successful careers at both levels as well. However, not all of the top-rated recruits in Auburn history have seen their own share of success. Today, we will look at 247Sports’s list of the highest-rated recruits in Auburn football history based on their composite rankings. Ahead, we take a peek at the top ten highest-ranked recruits in Auburn history.

Eagles announce 6 roster moves as team begins preparation for wild card matchup vs. Bucs

After activating 11 players from the COVID-19 list, the #Eagles announce 6 more roster moves as preparation for Sunday #SuperWildCardWeekend matchup vs. #Bucs gets underway

After activating 11 players from off of the Reserve/COVID-19 list, the Eagles announced 5 more roster moves, including one personnel decision that head coach Nick Sirianni actually backpedaled on.

Philadelphia placed three players on injured reserve, while also adding a player to the active roster, and waiving two players from the practice squad.

Eagles announce 4 roster moves

#Philadelphia #Eagles sign running back Kerryon Johnson C/G Luke Juriga to the practice squad in advance of matchup vs. #WashingtonFootball

With Miles Sanders out for Week 17 and Philadelphia needing to keep their running back depth flowing, the team has signed running back Kerryon Johnson to the practice squad.

Jordan Howard is dealing with a stinger and could be a game-time decision.

The Eagles made several other roster moves involving the practice squad on Tuesday:

Vikings have tryout with RB Kerryon Johnson

The Vikings gave a tryout to a free agent running back on Tuesday.

The Vikings are deep at running back — but an injury to its starter has sent the team looking for more options.

Vikings primary back Dalvin Cook suffered a shoulder injury in the loss to the 49ers on Sunday. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Cook is expected to miss at least two weeks.

Minnesota still has running backs Alexander Mattison and Kene Nwangwu — in addition to A.J. Rose on the practice squad —but it could always use depth.

Enter Kerryon Johnson, a running back who had a tryout with the Vikings this week, per the transactions wire.

In 2021, Johnson appeared in one game for the 49ers. But he had 181 rushing yards in 16 games for the Lions the year before.

Mattison will be the primary back with Cook out. Then, Nwangwu can add something as a speedy back who can thrive on outside carries. He can maybe even contribute in the passing game. Rose is a player who made a big impact in the preseason and might be able to find that same spark.

Packers host workout for former Lions RB Kerryon Johnson

The Packers reported a workout on Tuesday for former Lions RB Kerryon Johnson.

The Green Bay Packers are looking into a veteran option at running back after losing Aaron Jones to a short-term knee injury.

According to the league’s transaction wire, the Packers reported a workout for former Detroit Lions running back Kerryon Johnson on Tuesday.

Johnson, the 43rd overall pick in the 2018 draft, rushed for 1,225 yards, gained 1,752 total yards and scored 11 total touchdowns over 35 career games in the NFL.

The Packers may need to explore veteran help after Jones injured his MCL against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The injury isn’t expected to keep him out for more than two games, but adding a veteran to back up A.J. Dillon might make sense. The current backup, Patrick Taylor, has only two NFL carries, and the Packers don’t currently have a third healthy running back on the roster.

Johnson, who is still only 24, played three seasons in Detroit. He was briefly with the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers this season. His career rushing average is 4.3 yards per arry, but he finished under 4.0 in each of his last two seasons with the Lions.

The Packers also signed running back Kerrith Whyte to the practice squad on Tuesday, so it’s unclear if Johnson has a future home in Green Bay or if general manager Brian Gutekunst was just checking in with the former second-round pick. Whyte and Ryquell Armstead are both running back options on the practice squad, and the Packers protected Armstead this week, meaning no team can sign him off the practice squad.

Saints sign RB Josh Adams to practice squad after tryout

Saints sign RB Josh Adams to practice squad after tryout

The New Orleans Saints signed running back Josh Adams to their practice squad after a free agent tryout, as first reported by NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill. Adams was one of three running backs the Saints hosted for a group workout on Tuesday along with Detroit Lions 2018 draft pick Kerryon Johnson and former Carolina Panthers backup Rodney Smith.

Why the interest in running backs? Alvin Kamara briefly exited Sunday’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons to receive treatment in the blue medical trainer’s tent on the sidelines before returning, and we should learn more about what’s ailing him on Wednesday’s injury report. If he’s going to take on a lighter workload in the weeks ahead, it makes sense to add more depth.

And because the Saints have had a vacant spot available on their practice squad they can sign Adams without cutting anyone. But there are some moving parts involved after backup linebacker Chase Hansen was waived on Tuesday. He’s a candidate to return to the practice squad after the Saints recently activated him from injured reserve.

Here’s the updated Saints running backs depth chart (not counting Tony Jones Jr., who remains on injured reserve):

  • Alvin Kamara
  • Mark Ingram
  • Dwayne Washington
  • Lamar Miller (practice squad)
  • Josh Adams (practice squad)

There’s something darkly funny about the New Orleans Saints watching their receiving corps drop a number of well-thrown passes in Sunday’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons and choosing to prioritize free agent running backs for a group tryout two days later, but this is no laughing matter.

Saints superstar Alvin Kamara briefly exited that game to receive attention in the blue medical tent on the sidelines before returning, and NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill reported that it’s something to monitor on this week’s injury report. The fact the Saints flew a couple of free agents into town as potential depth at the position speaks for itself. So here’s what you need to know about them:

49ers roster moves: Jordan Matthews returns, 2 RBs released from practice squad

The #49ers made a number of moves on their practice squad, including the release of a pair of veteran RBs.

The 49ers on Tuesday made a series of moves on their practice squad to reflect some of the changing injury statuses on their active roster.

Running back Elijah Mitchell is expected to return for Week 5 and should be a full go at practice, giving the 49ers a healthier running back room than they had when they made a slew of RB additions to their practice squad.

They also added another tight end to the practice squad as George Kittle battles through a calf injury.

Here’s a quick rundown of the moves, which were first sent out by NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco:

49ers elevate RB Kerryon Johnson to active roster, place 2 on IR

The #49ers elevated RB Kerryon Johnson from their practice squad and placed 2 players on IR.

The San Francisco 49ers on Saturday announced a couple roster moves ahead of their Week 3 showdown with the Green Bay Packers at Levi’s Stadium.

Running back Kerryon Johnson was elevated from the practice squad with rookie RB Elijah Mitchell listed as doubtful. Johnson’s elevation is an indicator that Mitchell’s shoulder wasn’t feeling better Saturday. The 49ers signed Johnson to their practice squad after Week 1 when Raheem Mostert was hurt.

Johnson, 24, rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns on 52 carries for the Lions last season.

San Francisco also announced defensive tackle Kevin Givens and RB JaMycal Hasty went on Injured Reserve. Both players suffered high ankle sprains in Week 2 and will miss a minimum of three weeks under new IR rules.

Givens had one tackle for the 49ers this season in just over one game of action. He was hurt early in Week 2 agains the Eagles.

Hasty had 41 rushing yards and a touchdown on just six attempts this season. He suffered his ankle sprain late in last week’s win in Philadelphia.

49ers signing RB Kerryon Johnson to practice squad

The San Francisco 49ers will add depth at the running back position after losing Raheem Mostert for the rest of the season.

The San Francisco 49ers will add depth at the running back position after losing Raheem Mostert for the rest of the season.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the 49ers are signing veteran running back Kerryon Johnson to the practice squad.

On Tuesday, Mostert announced via social media that he would miss the rest of the season due to surgery on his injured knee. His absence leaves the 49ers with only rookies Trey Sermon and Elijah Mitchell and veteran JaMychal Hasty available at running back on the 53-man roster.

A second-round pick of the Detroit Lions in 2018, Johnson has rushed for 1,225 yards and eight touchdowns over 34 career games. The Philadelphia Eagles claimed him off waivers in May but released him off injured reserve in August.

Johnson played three seasons in Detroit. He will provide a veteran option on the practice squad for coach Kyle Shanahan.

Mostert rushed for 20 yards on two carries before exiting on Sunday with the injury. The 49ers got 104 rushing yards from Mitchell in his NFL debut.
