Montravius Adams signs two-year deal with Steelers

Adams, who has spent three seasons in the “Steel City”, has appeared in 30 games over the last two seasons, accumulating 50 total tackles and a forced fumble.

28-year-old Auburn alumni [autotag]Montravius Adams[/autotag] has signed a two-year deal to stay with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team announced on Wednesday.

Adams, who has spent three seasons in the “Steel City”, has appeared in 30 games over the last two seasons, accumulating 50 total tackles and a forced fumble.

The former Auburn Tiger played the most snaps of his career last season, picking up a career-high six stuffs in the process.

Adams has seemed to find a home in Pittsburgh after struggling to garner playing time during his tenure with the Green Bay Packers. The two-year deal will keep him in the middle of the Steelers defensive line until his age-30 season.

After getting selected in the third-round of the 2017 NFL Draft by Green Bay, Adams has finally found a home in the AFC North.

Former Steeler Armon Watts signs with the Patriots

The Steelers lost Armon Watts to the Patriots.

According to NFL reporter Tom Pelissero, the New England Patriots are signing former Pittsburgh Steelers free agent defensive tackle Armon Watts. The contract is one year and $3 million.

Watts spent the 2023 season with the Steelers after a season with the Chicago Bears and three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. Watts played about 24 percent of the total defensive snaps, most of those coming when veteran Cam Heyward went down with injury.

With Watts a Patriot, this could accelerate Pittsburgh’s need to re-sign Montravius Adams, who is also a free agent. If the Steelers cannot get Adams back, it makes defensive tackle a fairly high priority either in the later stages of free agency or in the 2024 NFL draft.

Auburn in the NFL: Week 14 Recap

It was a solid week for Auburn Alumni in Week 14.

We have reached the final quarter of the NFL regular season.

As we do every week, Auburn Wire will take a look at some of the most notable performances from Auburn Alumni across the League.

Auburn Alumni were busy in Week 14, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

[autotag]Carlton Davis[/autotag] collected his second interception of the season, helping the Buccaneers take first place in the NFC South. [autotag]Derrick Brown[/autotag] tallied the second INT of his career, [autotag]Darius Slayton[/autotag]’s Giants won their third game in a row, and [autotag]Jonathan Jones[/autotag]’s Patriots got the best of [autotag]Montravius Adams[/autotag]’s Steelers on Thursday Night.

Here is a look at several headlines from Week 14 that feature Auburn’s top NFL players.

Steelers vs Cardinals: DT Montravius Adams only player with injury designation this week

The Steelers are getting healthy at just the right time.

This week when the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Arizona Cardinals, they will be as healthy as they have been in some time. Pittsburgh put out their game-status report for this week’s game and the only player listed with any injury designation is defensive tackle Montravius Adams.

Adams has missed the last two games with an ankle injury. Adams was able to practice this week and despite being listed as questionable this week, we fully expect him to play against the Cardinals.

The upside of all this has been since Adams has been out, we’ve gotten to see much more of rookie Keeanu Benton. Benton has been great in an expanded role and we really hope the return of Adams doesn’t mean Benton is going to be relegated to just a reserve role.

Pittsburgh is also getting safety Minkah Fitzpatrick back this week after missing multiple games with a hamstring injury.

Steelers vs Cardinals: 8 players show up on Wednesday practice report

The Steelers got Minkah Fitzpatrick and Montravius Adams back to practice on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers got back to work preparing to take on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 13 of the NFL regular season. Eight players showed up on the practice report but there was much more good news than bad on the injury front.

Steelers vs Packers: Green Bay could be down 2 key defensive starters

The Steelers and Packers are going to be shorthanded on defense this week.

We already know the Pittsburgh Steelers will be quite shorthanded on defense this week with Minkah Fitzpatrick, Montravius Adams and Cole Holcomb all absent. The Green Bay Packers could also be down two of their best defensive players as well.

The Packers listed starting linebacker Quay Walker and starting cornerback Jaire Alexander as doubtful this week. Walker currently leads the Packers with 66 tackles and is the team’s primary run-stuffer. With the Steelers starting to focus on the run game, not having Walker on the field is a huge plus for Pittsburgh.

Alexander is the Packers top coverage player and if he cannot go it will complicated this for Green Bay in trying to slow down wide receivers Diontae Johnson and George Pickens. Pickens is in a slump for the last two games and not having Alexander on the field might be just the slump buster he needs.

The Packers also have the following players listed as questionable:

DL Kenny Clark

S Rudy Ford

OL Josh Myers

OT Yosh Nijman

OT Jon Runyan

Steelers DT Montravius Adams questionable to return with ankle injury

The Steelers are down a defensive lineman early in the first half.

The good news this week was the return of Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cam Heyward. And just in the nick of time as early in Thursday’s game against the Tennessee Titans, starting defensive lineman Montravius Adams went out with an ankle injury and is questionable to return.

The injury leaves the Steelers very thin along the defensive line. Nose tackles Armon Watts and Breiden Fehoko are both inactive this week with the return of Heyward.

Adams has started all eight games this season. The Steelers currently lead the Titans 7-3 with two minutes left in the first quarter.

Missing the cut: Which Auburn Tiger could have been on the cover of NCAA Football 18?

Three Tigers had cases to be on the cover of NCAA Football 18 if it had been released.

Many sports video game fans across the country (including myself) were excited to learn that the NCAA Football franchise is on track to return to our lives in the summer of 2024, which will be re-named “EA Sports College Football.”

Plans for the game were threatened to be delayed due to a lawsuit from The Brandr Group, citing that the franchise’s $500 million pool, which would give each athlete represented in the game $500, was considered to be “far below market value.”

Despite the setback, EA Sports remains on schedule to release the game next summer.

“We’re incredibly excited to bring back an authentic college football experience for fans and athletes that have shown such passion for the franchise, and we’re looking forward to delivering it in Summer 2024,” an EA spokesperson tells On3’s Pete Nakos.

It has been ten years since the release of the last game, NCAA Football 14. It has us at Auburn Wire thinking… which Auburn athletes missed out on being a cover athlete for the famous video game franchise?

Our pick for NCAA Football 15 was [autotag]Chris Davis[/autotag] with [autotag]Cameron Artis-Payne[/autotag] selected to represent Auburn on the cover of NCAA Football 16. We returned to the defensive side of the ball for NCAA Football 17, tabbing [autotag]Rudy Ford[/autotag] as the cover player.

Up next we take a look at NCAA 18 and once again one Tigers stands out. The 2016 season got off to a rough start for Auburn, they lost two of their first three games before they rattled off six straight wins to get the season back on track.

A major reason for Auburn’s success was the breakout of sophomore running back [autotag]Kamryn Pettway[/autotag] who emerged as Auburn’s top offensive threat and one of the best backs in the SEC. He led the Tigers with 1,224 yards and 209 carries, rushing for over 100 yards in seven of the nine games he played.

His best work came on the road against Ole Miss, Pettway bowled right over them for 236 yards on 30 carries, leading the Tigers to a 40-29 victory. The 236 yards are the 10th most ever by an Auburn running back in a single game.

Other contenders for the cover athlete include defensive end [autotag]Carl Lawson[/autotag] and defensive tackle [autotag]Montravius Adams[/autotag]. Lawson led Auburn’s defense with 14.0 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks to go with one forced fumble.

Adams shored up the interior of the defense, making 43 tackles, recording one interception, recovering two fumbles and returning one for a touchdown.

Here is a look at the best photos from each of the contenders.
