Former Alabama basketball F Keon Ambrose-Hylton announces transfer destination

Former Alabama basketball forward Keon Ambrose-Hylton announced his transfer to SMU today. Ambrose-Hylton eventually decided on heading to  Dallas after entering the portal nearly two months ago on March 2.

Ambrose-Hylton is a lengthy 6’8″ forward from Ontario, Canada who has a lot of upside, he just could never find his role in Tuscaloosa. Through two seasons with the tide he appeared in 30 games getting about four minutes a night.

However, with the guard centric offense and up tempo style of play that Nate Oats and the Tide run with was ultimately not the right fight for Ambrose-Hylton. He will likely compete for a starting spot immediately as the Mustangs do not have a ton of depth or height.

For the tide, they have lost a couple players to the portal, some to the draft and there will be a lot of new faces for the 2022-2023 season. However, with the clip that Nate Oats has been recruiting at, Tide fans have no reason to worry.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama basketball.

Alabama forward Juwan Gary has entered the NCAA transfer portal

Another Alabama men’s basketball player has hit the NCAA transfer portal.

Alabama redshirt sophomore forward Juwan Gary has entered the NCAA transfer portal according to Matt Zenitz of On3. Gary is the fourth member of the Crimson Tide to enter the portal this offseason. Gary will be joining former teammates Jusaun Holt, Jaden Quinerly, Keon Ambrose-Hylton, and Alex Tchikou in the portal.

Gary came to Tuscaloosa as a four-star prospect and a top 100 player hailing from the state of South Carolina. Gary missed his entire freshman season with an ACL injury and would go on to mostly come off the bench for the Tide over his next two seasons in Tuscaloosa. Gary averaged 6.5 points per game this past season with the Tide.

Head coach Nate Oats has had quite the roster turnover this offseason as he looks to build his own brand of basketball at the Capstone.

Alabama basketball target Jordan Bruner makes college decision

Yale graduate transfer Jordan Bruner announced on Friday where he’ll be finishing his collegiate basketball career.

Jordan Bruner has finally made his decision on where he’ll finish his collegiate basketball career. On Friday, the Yale graduate transfer announced he’ll be joining the Alabama Crimson Tide.

This is a huge addition to an already impressive 2020 recruiting class for Nate Oats and the rest of the Alabama basketball program.

Bruner was being heavily pursued by several of the nation’s top schools and had recently narrowed his choices down to three: Alabama, Baylor and Maryland.

The 6-foot-9 forward from Columbia (S.C.) brings a versatile skill set to Tuscaloosa, as he almost averaged a double-double for Yale last season (10.9 points, 9.2 rebound per game).

Bruner is also an effective player on the defensive end of the courst, as he averaged 1.7 blocks as well.

In addition to Bruner, the Crimson Tide have also added other key members to its 2020 class within the last couple of weeks. Included in those additions are five-star guard Josh Primo, four-star JUCO guard Keon Ellis and three-star forward Darius Miller.

Alabama already had four-star forward Keon Ambrose-Hylton committed as well.

Combine those with the arrivals of Jahvon Quinerly, Juwan Gary and James Rojas, and this Alabama basketball team is going to look vastly different than it did during the 2019-20 season.

Oats and company are still waiting on any potential return announcements from John Petty, Herb Jones or Kira Lewis Jr. But even if all three choose to stick to leaving early for the 2020 NBA Draft, the Tide look to be in good shape.

BREAKING: Alabama basketball lands JUCO guard Keon Ellis

Things are picking up on the recruiting trail for the Alabama basketball program. On Sunday, the Tide landed a commitment from Keon Ellis.

Things are starting to pick up on the recruiting trail for Nate Oats and the Alabama basketball program. On Sunday, the Crimson Tide landed a commitment from Keon Ellis.

Ellis, a four-star JUCO combo guard from Fort Myers (Fla.), made the announcements via his Instagram and Twitter accounts:

Ellis is rated as the No. 3 JUCO prospect and No. 1 combo guard for the 2020, according to 247Sports.

He is also the third member of the Crimson Tide’s 2020 recruiting class, joining four-star prospects Josh Primo (No. 47 overall, No. 8 combo guard) and Keon Ambrose-Hylton (No. 114 overall, No. 22 power forward).

Top Alabama basketball target sets decision date for commitment

Alabama could be landing its second basketball commitment for the 2020 recruiting class.

The Alabama basketball program took a couple potential hits on Tuesday when head coach Nate Oats said that Kira Lewis Jr. and John Petty would test the NBA waters.

And while it’s not a guarantee that both — or either — leave, it’s looking like the Crimson Tide will need to replenish the depth on the roster, especially after the announcement that Raymond Hawkins entered the transfer portal.

Well, the hope is that 2021 four-star combo guard Josh Primo could be one of those potential replacements on the roster. On Tuesday, the Toronto (Ohio) native insinuated that a commitment date could be set via his Twitter account:

As of right now, the belief is that the final two schools are Alabama and Creighton, which means the Crimson Tide is in a good position to land the 6-foot-6, 180-pound prospect.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Primo is the No. 47 overall prospect, No. 8 combo guard and No. 1 player from the state of Ohio. He’s also listed as a five star (No. 27 overall) when it comes to the 247Sports standalone rankings.

If Primo was added to the Tide’s 2020 class, he would join four-star power forward Keon Ambrose-Hylton out of Willoughby (Ohio).

Alabama gets 2020 basketball recruiting started with 4-star F Keon Ambrose-Hylton

Keon Ambrose-Hylton, one of the top prep basketball prospects out of Canada, became Alabama’s first commitment in the Class of 2020 when he picked the Crimson Tide ahead of North Carolina State and others.

It took Alabama a little while to break through with the 2020 basketball recruiting class. When the Crimson Tide finally did strike Sunday, the new member of their class resonated.

Four-star forward Keon Ambrose-Hylton, one of the top prospects in Canada at Toronto’s Andrews Osborne Academy, committed to Alabama from among a final five that also included North Carolina State, USC, Arkansas and Dayton. The Tide stuck out from that list because of the commitment they made to recruiting Ambrose-Hylton and building a genuine relationship with him, per the guard.

“Coach Bryan [Hodgson] is a great guy,” Ambrose-Hylton told 247Sports. “When he first came to the gym he was looking at Charles [Bediako] and then he saw me play and offered me immediately. Since then it’s been a real relationship.”

“They’ve been to a lot of my games and I enjoyed my visit with them. I enjoy the coaching staff a lot, hanging out laughing and not just about basketball, I just have a great time being there.”

Another key factor that drew Ambrose-Hylton to Alabama? His hopeful transition to guard in college. While the Canadian currently plays predominantly as a power forward, he said the Crimson Tide coaching staff presented him with a plan to transition his skills into a more guard-focused package.

Success there could pave the way to the next level, which made Ambrose-Hylton’s decision far easier.

“They said how they see my game thoroughly and see my numbers and think they can develop me into a guard,” Ambrose-Hylton told 247Sports. “They really love the way I play. Their playing style really fits me and what I can become.”
