Georgia offensive lineman to retire due to medical disqualification

Former four-star recruit becomes Georgia football’s second player to be forced to medically retire this offseason

With football season rapidly approaching, the Georgia Bulldogs received some tough medical news on Wednesday morning. Offensive lineman Kelton Smith will be retiring from football in light of a medical disqualification.

Kelton Smith was a four-star interior offensive lineman in the class of 2023. Smith was one of five linemen that Georgia signed in the 2023 cycle. He was ranked as the eighth-best interior lineman and 17th best overall prospect in Georgia. He is listed at 6-foot-4, 330 pounds, and is originally from Columbus, Georgia, where he played at Carver High School and was a high school All-American. Smith redshirted and did not play in the 2023 season.

Smith is the second player this offseason to be forced to medically retire, following tight end Pearce Spurlin, who did so in March of this year. He was expected to continue to develop at guard this season and provide depth behind Dylan Fairchild and Tate Ratledge.

4-star OL Kelton Smith signs with Georgia

Kelton Smith is a Dawg.

4-star offensive lineman Kelton Smith committed to Georgia back in July. On Wednesday, Smith wasted no time singing his national letter of intent, becoming Georgia’s first signee of the 2023 class.

Smith plays high school football, basketball, and track for Carver High School in Columbus, Georgia. He ranks as the nation’s No. 227 overall player, No. 9 ranked interior offensive lineman and as the No. 21 player in Georgia, per 247Sports.

At 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds, Carver High School star also received scholarship offers from Texas A&M, Tennessee, Florida, Oregon, and Ohio State among others.

Smith plans to play in the 2023 All-American Bowl on NBC.

4-star LSU offensive line target chooses an SEC East team

LSU is still searching for its second offensive line commit in the 2023 class.

LSU’s search for a second offensive line commit in the 2023 recruiting class continues as target [autotag]Kelton Smith[/autotag] committed to the Georgia Bulldogs on Friday night.

Smith is a four-star offensive tackle from Columbus, Georgia where he plays for Carver High School. The Tigers are one of the best teams in Georgia. They finished as the state runner-up in 4A last season, and they just moved down to 3A to contend for a title.

LSU has been in the mix for the talented offensive tackle for a while now and made his final list of schools. Unfortunately, Smith — the No. 218 overall prospect in the 2023 class — chose to stay home and play for the Bulldogs at the next level. Kirby Smart has the boys in Athens playing some pretty good ball as they are the defending national champions.

Another offensive lineman is off the board for the 2023 class, so coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] will have to keep searching. The only offensive lineman from the class of 2023 that has committed to playing for LSU is [autotag]Paul Mubenga[/autotag].

The Tigers currently have 16 commits in the cycle, and their class ranks No. 9 in the country. For all recruiting updates and breaking news, stay tuned in to LSU Wire.

4-star offensive lineman ‘amazed’ by Napier’s offer during visit

Billy Napier caught this recruit by surprise during his recent visit.

Florida football is in the midst of a massive program overhaul after the departure of [autotag]Dan Mullen[/autotag] and his staff. Now under the administration of former Lousiana Ragin’ Cajuns head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and his veritable army of tireless coaches and staffers, the Gators are on the hunt for the best prep prospects in the nation for the class of 2023.

Last weekend, the Orange and Blue hosted four-star interior offensive lineman [autotag]Kelton Smith[/autotag] out of Columbus (Georgia) Carver High School for an unofficial visit on campus. During his tour of the facilities on April 2, he had an opportunity to briefly meet Napier in person, who surprised him with an offer to join the program.

“I really didn’t know what to say,” Smith said according to Swamp247. “I was just amazed. He said he just had to offer me because of how I move at this size.”

He currently has two crystal ball projections for the Florida State Seminoles per the same publication, while On3 has the Auburn Tigers in front of 11 listed schools with a 38.8% prediction.

The other conference schools vying for his talents based on a combination of both sources are the Georgia Bulldogs, Tennessee Volunteers, Ole Miss Rebels, South Carolina Gamecocks, Kentucky Wildcats and LSU Tigers.

While a date has yet to be set for an official visit to Gainesville, Smith told Gators Online that Florida would “probably have one.” The good news is that after his April stop at the Swamp, the Gators “moved themselves up a lot on my list,” in his own words.

The interior offensive lineman prospect is ranked No. 258 overall and No. 13 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports Composite, while the On3 Consensus lists him at No. 222 overall and No. 14, respectively.
