2024 four-star LB Justin Williams announces top six schools

Texas makes the cut for one of the nation’s top linebacker prospects.

2024 four-star linebacker Justin Williams has narrowed his recruitment down to six schools. Williams is set to focus on Auburn, Oregon, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M and USC.

Williams is listed as the No. 4 linebacker in the nation and the No. 7 overall prospect in the state of Texas in the 247Sports composite rankings. He took unofficial visits to Oregon, Texas and Texas A&M over the course of the fall.

The Oak Ridge High School product enjoyed a breakout junior season on the field. Williams tallied 95 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks en route to winning district MVP.

Texas did an excellent job recruiting the linebacker position in the 2023 cycle. The Longhorns landed three talented prospects, including five-star Anthony Hill Jr.

Williams is the next big target on the defensive side of the ball for Texas’ staff.

Four-star LB Justin Williams includes Auburn in top 6

Auburn has their work cut out for them to land the top 100 linebacker.

Auburn recruiting has been red-hot since [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] took over and the Tigers are looking to build an elite recruiting class in 2024.

One elite prospect the Tigers are going after is four-star linebacker [autotag]Justin Williams[/autotag] and that feeling is mutual. The Conroe, Texas native is a top 100 recruit and on Saturday he announced his top six schools.

Auburn made the cut and will be battling Texas A&M, Texas, TCU, Oregon, and USC for the 6-foot-2, 205-pounder.

He is the No. 54 overall player and No. 4 linebacker in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 7 player from Texas in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Williams had an impressive junior season for Oak Ridge High School, making 95 total tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks, and was named the district’s Defensive Player of the Year.

If Auburn is going to land the talented defender they have some ground to make up, Oregon is seen as the early favorite and 247Sports Steve Wiltfong has cast a Crystal Ball for the Ducks to land him.

4-star LB Justin Williams places Oregon in top 6; Ducks favorite to land commitment

The Ducks are already strongly favored to land 4-star LB Justin Williams, so it wasn’t a major shock when they popped up in his top 6 on Saturday.

The Oregon Ducks are in good standing with one of their top defensive prospects in the 2024 class.

On Saturday, four-star linebacker Justin Williams narrowed his recruitment to six teams and kept the Ducks in the mix. This comes a few months after 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong placed a crystal ball prediction for Oregon to land Williams in 2024.

Williams is the No. 4 LB in the 2024 class and the No. 54 player nationally overall. Standing 6 feet, 2 inches and 205 pounds, Williams has a long list of offers from top schools in the nation.

Should the Ducks close this recruitment and get him to come to Eugene, it could be a massive addition.

Ducks become early favorites to land 2024 4-star LB out of Texas

Predictions are flying in left and right for the Ducks. The latest is for Oregon to land the No. 8 LB in the 2024 class.

On Monday night, Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning was asked how he tries to balance the necessity of securing his 2023 recruiting class while also trying to get a jump-start on the 2024 class. It’s a line that many college coaches have to try and walk.

“That’s just got to be part of your everyday process,” Lanning said. “Again, there’s recruiting and there’s relationships. And that’s kind of the key. I think our staff does a great job building relationships.”

One of the relationships that Oregon has been able to build recently is with 2024 4-star linebacker Justin Williams, a blue-chip prospect from Oak Ridge Texas who is now being projected to commit to the Ducks. Williams is rated by 247Sports as the No. 8 LB in the 2024 class, and the No. 92 overall player in the nation.

After the massive weekend and big win over UCLA, the Ducks picked up not one, but two predictions to land the blue-chip linebacker, the first coming from 247Sports’ Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong:

The second prediction came from Rivals’ National Recruiting Director Nick Harris:

Things are looking good for the Ducks, especially after a big Monday where they not only added 4-star IOL Iapani Laloulu to the 2023 recruiting class, but added their first 2024 commitment — 4-star TE A.J. Pugliano, the No. 1 ranked player in the state of Oregon, and the No. 5 TE in the nation.

MLB draft: Three Penn State baseball players drafted on Day 3

What MLB franchises drafted baseball players from Penn State?

Major League Baseball held its amateur draft this week, and a handful of players with Penn State ties were fortunate to have their name selected by one of the franchises in search of developing some new talent in the farm system.

Penn State Class of 2021 wide receiver Lonnie White Jr., a multi-sport star athlete in high school, was selected with a comp pick on Monday by the Pittsburgh Pirates. But three additional Nittany Lions were selected on day three of the draft on Tuesday.

Penn State third baseman Justin Williams was selected by the Houston Astros in the 17th round.

“Justin is a hard-working player with good power and arm strength,” Penn State baseball manager Rob Cooper said in a released statement. “I believe Justin is just now beginning to realize his offensive potential. We are thrilled for Justin to realize his dream of a professional opportunity.”

Ten picks later, Penn State right-hander Kyle Virbitsky was selected by the Oakland Athletics.

“In my entire coaching career, I haven’t been around many individuals who love competition as much as Kyle,” Cooper had to say about one of his pitchers. “His progression from his first year to now is a testament to his dedication and work ethic. Congratulations to Kyle on being drafted and getting the opportunity to start his professional career.”

In the 18th round, the New York Yankees selected Penn State right-handed pitcher Bailey Dees.

“Since the day Bailey arrived in Happy Valley, he has worked extremely hard to improve his craft,” Cooper said about Dees. “I believe he is only beginning to scratch the surface of his talent and we are very excited to see him get an opportunity to sign a professional contract.”

As for White, an official decision on his future remains unconfirmed, although it should be expected White will begin his journey to professional baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates and leave behind his scholarship to play football for Penn State.

Tennessee offers 2022 Georgia running back

The Vols are continuing their pursuit of players in Georgia.

Tennessee has recruited the state of Georgia hard under Jeremy Pruitt, and that effort continued with an offer extended to running back Justin Williams from Dallas, Georgia in the 2022 recruiting class.

Williams does not yet hold any ratings from the 247Sports Composite, but does have offers from significant college football programs.

At 6-foot, 200 pounds, Williams is a sophomore at East Paulding High School. His offer list is impressive for his age, with Ole Miss, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Louisville and others included.

Tennessee has only one prospect committed to the 2022 recruiting class, in 3-star defensive end Jimmy Scott from New York.
