Why Usher didn’t include Justin Bieber in the Super Bowl halftime show

Justin Bieber wasn’t part of Usher’s Super Bowl halftime show, but there’s a good reason why.

Usher’s halftime show at Super Bowl 58 was a marvelous, star-studded affair that spanned the breadth of the artist’s career. But unfortunately, for many music fans, a certain someone was missing from the performance.

Justin Bieber — who collaborated with Usher on his 2010 hit “Somebody To Love” — was in attendance in Las Vegas for the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, but didn’t take the field for the halftime show. While it wasn’t a certainty that Bieber would perform alongside Usher, fans were certainly hoping for another collaboration between the two.

While Bieber’s absence disappointed fans, it actually shouldn’t come as a surprise. Ahead of his Super Bowl performance, Usher said he wanted to pay tribute to Black artists who paved the way for him in his show:

“It’s a major thing for me,” Usher said. “I think about what our country has kind of represented for Black artists, you know, having to at some point go through kitchens to even be able to perform for an audience, but they had to leave back through that same door, fear for their lives as they went to the next state to do the same thing. So I’m coming through the front door with this one.”

Makes sense! The set was an incredible showcase of R&B talent, from Alicia Keys to Lil Jon and more. Plus, with how fast-paced the show was, it just seemed like an appearance from Bieber wasn’t in the cards.

Here’s how NFL fans reacted to Bieber’s no-show during the Super Bowl halftime show.

Bob Costas couldn’t believe he accidentally called Shane Bieber ‘Justin’ Bieber

Bob Costas wasn’t the first and probably won’t be the last to mix up Biebers.

Look, there’s a lot going on in postseason baseball right now, and being on the call for games is no easy feat. So perhaps we can forgive Bob Costas for his silly blunder Friday during the Yankees-Guardians Game 2 matchup.

Cleveland right-hander Shane Bieber started the game for the Guardians. Pop star Justin Bieber decidedly did not.

Shane Bieber was on the mound for a little more than five innings, and while reliever Trevor Stephan was warming up, Costas noted the starter’s pitch count. Except he accidentally called Shane “Justin.” Twice!

Costas wasn’t the first to accidentally mix up Shane and Justin Bieber, and he probably won’t be the last. But even the veteran broadcaster couldn’t believe this blunder and later corrected himself while seemingly in disbelief.

“Did — I actually called Shane Bieber ‘Justin Bieber!'” Costas said.

It’s happened before, and the pitcher has a great sense of humor about it, like when he wore a “Not Justin” jersey for Players’ Weekend. So surely Shane Bieber won’t take offense to this little mix-up.

A possible Game 7 between Lightning, Rangers could conflict with a Justin Bieber concert at MSG

This is Justin Bieber’s revenge for the Lightning knocking out the Maple Leafs.

Is it too late now to say sorry?

We’re closing in on the end of the Stanley Cup playoffs, as the Conference Finals are at their midway points, with just a few games remaining until the ultimate prize: the Stanley Cup. However, there’s a potential snag that could happen should the Eastern Conference Final between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the New York Rangers go to a Game 7.

You see, pop sensation — and Maple Leafs super fan — Justin Bieber is scheduled to hold a concert at Madison Square Garden on June 14. Not too out of the ordinary, especially in the summer in New York City. But, you know what else could be happening that night? Game 7 between the Lightning and the Rangers… at Madison Square Garden!

This isn’t the first time concerts have conflicted with postseason sports games, as the Houston Astros moved the date of a Taylor Swift concert in 2015 for their playoff run. If the Astros can move a Taylor Swift concert, surely the Rangers can move Justin Bieber if the worst comes to pass?

Regardless, this must be Bieber’s revenge against the Lightning, who knocked out his favorite team the Maple Leafs in round one of the Stanley Cup playoffs. What goes around comes around!

Justin Bieber’s Mother’s Day post about the Maple Leafs came right before Toronto’s horrible loss

Justin Bieber really cursed the Maple Leafs on Sunday.

Justin Bieber’s Mother’s Day post couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

On Sunday, Bieber posted a real sweet picture for Mother’s Day on Instagram of him and his mother — Pattie Mallette — standing next to and touching the Stanley Cup. Bieber, a noted Maple Leafs super fan, used the short message to talk about his favorite team, who are currently embroiled in a slugfest of a first round playoff matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

“Happy Mother’s Day mom, we’re gonna bring back lord Stanley’s Cup to Toronto this year and it will be beautiful,” the message read.

Pretty sweet, right?

Unfortunately for Bieber, and the Maple Leafs, Toronto took an absolute 7-3 beating from Tampa Bay in Game 4 just hours after the pop star posted this. Now, the series is tied 2-2 headed back to Toronto in a best-of-three to determine who moves on to the next round.

While the post is a sweet one from Bieber, that’s still a big old yikes right there!

Justin Bieber taunted Habs fans with a Maple Leafs joke, conveniently forgetting last year’s playoffs

It was 3-1, Justin!

Justin Bieber, like all Toronto Maple Leafs fans, has seemingly forgotten the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs.

During Bieber’s Tuesday night concert at the Bell Centre in Montreal, the pop star — and Maple Leafs super fan — taunted the home Canadiens crowd with a jab at how well Toronto’s played this season. Entering the final month of the 2021-22 season, the Maple Leafs are 42-19-5 and are locked in to a playoff spot. Meanwhile, just months removed from a Stanley Cup Final, the Canadiens are the second-worst team in the NHL with a 18-38-11 record.

And Bieber let Montreal know it.

“What’s up, Montreal, I’ve had a great night with you guys tonight,” Bieber said. “But how about them Leafs though, huh?”

The jabs continued!

“Auston Matthews is really doing some work here in Montreal,” Bieber said. “So, uh, how’s that playoff spot looking for you guys this year?”

Bieber ended his taunts with a “Go Leafs Go” chant, despite the boos and the counter “Go Habs Go” chants from the crowd.

Of course, Bieber is forgetting one key thing here. The last time the Maple Leafs played in a game of any significance, they blew a 3-1 series lead and lost in Game 7 to the Canadiens last year in an embarrassing playoff exit.

I’m just saying, people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones!

Justin Bieber supports Simone Biles on Instagram: ‘Nobody will ever understand the pressures you face’

A lovely message.

Support for Simone Biles after she pulled out of the team and individual all-around competitions at the Tokyo Olympics has come from everywhere — from fans, former teammates, big names like Michael Phelps and more.

It’s also coming from someone who has never met her, but he posted about Biles on Instagram anyway: Justin Bieber.

The singer sent a heartfelt message of support to the gymnast, acknowledging that while they don’t know each other, he wanted to express how proud he was and how he could relate.

“I know we don’t know each other but I’m so proud of the decision to withdraw,” he wrote. “It’s as simple as
– what does it mean to gain the whole world but forfeit your soul.
Sometimes our no’s are more powerful than our yes’s. When what you normally love starts to steal your joy it’s important we take a step back to evaluate why.”

Justin Bieber’s new Crocs are here and fans were upset they couldn’t get a pair

Rinse, wash, repeat.

Sorry isn’t going to cut it this time from Justin Bieber.

After weeks of waiting for his new Crocs to finally release on Tuesday, fans everywhere on the internet were left empty handed (or empty carted?) when the Crocs instantly sold out after hours of waiting in line.

The process was a whole mess. They were scheduled to release at 12 noon Eastern Time. Customers were supposed to be able to wait in virtual lines for a chance to buy the clogs.

But because of the high demand for the Crocs, they pushed the release back to 1 p.m. instead of 12.

Customers got back in line and waited for nearly two hours after that tweet for the shoes just to sell out around 2:30 p.m.

Needless to say, fans were not happy with the process.

This was particularly upsetting because there were customers who, once again, were using bots to take up multiple spaces in line and buy multiple pairs despite the limit only being one per customer.

This is literally the same thing as the Bad Bunny drop. The same process. It’s also the same as, basically, every hyped Nike SNKRS drop there is. They release these shoes with very little protection against bots and fans of the shoes end up paying way more than retail on the secondary market.

It’s a shame that things turned out this way, yet again. Especially considering that the Bad Bunny release was only a few weeks ago. There was time to do a better job and it didn’t happen.

Hopefully, before Crocs does another one of these collabs, they’ll figure things out.

Booker’s digging led her to Nikuro, …

Booker’s digging led her to Nikuro, whose Tokyo-based creator bills the character as Japan’s first male virtual influencer. He’s a basketball fan who splits his time between Tokyo and Los Angeles. He loves music, including Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber and Kendrick Lamar. “He may be fake, but he has a real personality,” 1Sec CEO Hirokuni Genie Miyaji told the Japan Times last year. Like Wizards rookie Rui Hachimura, Nikuro is half Japanese, which made him an especially good fit for the team. “I just felt like that ties in perfectly with the story we’re building here with Rui,” Booker said. “He doesn’t have the millions of followers that some of the other virtual influencers do, but his story line is resonating [in Japan].”
