Micah Shrewsberry, Kebba Njie, Matt Zona speak during ACC Tipoff

Hear from a team that figures to have many challenges this season.

Notre Dame is facing a challenging season with a new face and a mostly new roster. [autotag]Micah Shrewsberry[/autotag] fielded questions about that during the ACC Tipoff on Oct. 25 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Alongside him were [autotag]Kebba Njie[/autotag], a transfer who came over with Shrewsberry from Penn State, and [autotag]Matt Zona[/autotag], one of the few returnees on this year’s Irish.

Here is what they had to say:

Notre Dame basketball adds Seton Hall transfer forward

Shrewsberry gets another portal win

The rumors were true about [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] and Seton Hall transfer [autotag]Tae Davis[/autotag].

The 6-foot, 9-inch and 205 pound forward committed to [autotag]Micah Shrewsberry[/autotag] and the Irish on Thursday afternoon. Davis will have three seasons of eligibility remaining after averaging just over 13 minutes per game during his freshman season.

Davis scored 2.8 points and grabbed 2.8 rebounds during his lone season with the Pirates and will now return to his home state to continue his basketball career.

This is the third transfer that Shrewsberry has landed since being hired at the end of March. [autotag]Julian Roper[/autotag] and [autotag]Kebba Njie[/autotag] were the other two.

Notre Dame basketball trending for transfer forward

The Irish could be adding another hoops transfer soon

It wasn’t a surprise when [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] basketball hired [autotag]Micah Schrewsberry[/autotag] that he would need to work the transfer portal to field a solid team in the fall.

So far the plan has worked well, with [autotag]Kebba Njie[/autotag] and [autotag]Julian Roper[/autotag] as verbals from the portal. There could very well be another name added with those two, forward Tae Davis.

The Seton Hall transfer is schedule to be on campus today and tomorrow, and Schrewsberry could get a verbal from Davis before he leaves campus. According to this report by 247Sports Tom Loy, he believes that the 6-foot, 9-inch and 200 pound forward will eventually commit to the Irish.

During his freshman year, Davis averaged 2.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in just over 13 minutes played. He would have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

2021 SG Julian Roper commits to Northwestern

The Badgers lose out on a top 2021 target

[lawrence-newsletter]2021 SG Julian Roper has committed to Northwestern per his instagram.

Roper was a key Badger target throughout his entire recruiting process. After months of being linked to Wisconsin, in large part due to high school teammate Lorne Bowman being a 2020 Badger signee, Roper decided to go with the ‘Cats.

For months, the 247sports ‘crystal ball’ predicted that the Michigan native would land with the Badgers, but the prediction flipped to Northwestern about a week ago. The Michigan native took visits to both UW and Northwestern, touring Madison this past November and Evanston this past October. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard is the first hard commit for Northwestern in the 2021 class. The Badgers currently have three 2021 commits, and all are four-star recruits, in Chris Hodges, Chucky Hepburn, and Matthew Mors.

When and where 2021 SG Julian Roper will be making his college decision

The Badgers have long been tied to three-star 2021 SG Julian Roper. Although Wisconsin seemed to be the likely destination for the Michigan native due to his high-school backcourt mate Lorne Bowman already being in the UW 2020 class, 247sports and …

The Badgers have long been tied to three-star 2021 SG Julian Roper. Although Wisconsin seemed to be the likely destination for the Michigan native due to his high-school backcourt mate Lorne Bowman already being in the UW 2020 class, 247sports and Rivals have both linked Roper to Northwestern over the past week.

We now know when and where the Franklin, Mi (St. Mary’s) native will be making his decision tomorrow:

A decision that in all likelihood comes down to Northwestern and Wisconsin will happen likely at 12:50 CT given that Roper is on the eastern time zone. Tune in tomorrow on instagram to find out if the Badgers land their target. The 2021 Wisconsin class that already includes three four-stars in PG Chucky Hepburn, PF Matthew Mors, and PF Chris Hodges could be getting a major addition.

It’s looking like a two-team race for 2021 Badger basketball target Julian Roper as his commitment date nears

The Badger target has his commitment coming up in the next few days, and it looks like he is down to two schools

A prospect that Wisconsin has targeted for months is making an announcement regarding his future in the next few days. 2021 SG Julian Roper is reportedly announcing his decision on May 4 according to Endless Motor Sports.

Roper has a link to the Badgers through his high school teammate Lorne Bowman. Bowman is a PG signee in Wisconsin’s 2020 class.

Despite the graphic that shows a plethora of schools in contention for Roper’s services, the three-star guard is heavily considering two places above the rest according to the 247sports predictive model.

Currently, after months of the 247sports ‘crystal ball’ predicting Roper will land with the Badgers, the prediction has flipped to Northwestern. It seems to be a two-team race between UW and Northwestern. The Michigan native took visits to both schools, touring Madison this past November and Northwestern this past October. Circle May 4 on your calendars as a 2021 class that already includes three four-stars in PG Chucky Hepburn, PF Matthew Mors, and PF Chris Hodges could get even better.

Where Wisconsin basketball’s class of 2021 currently stands

A look at the Badger 2021 basketball class, currently one of the top classes in the nation

Although we are still in the early stages of the 2021 recruiting cycle, the Badgers have made serious noise. Wisconsin basketball currently has the second-best class in the nation behind the USC Trojans according to 247sports. In terms of 247sports Big Ten rankings, Wisconsin is number one in the conference. Despite the fact that most top players in the class have yet to commit, the Badgers are off to a tremendous start.

Wisconsin basketball currently has three four-star commits in the class of 2021.  Matthew Mors, Chris Hodges, and Chucky Hepburn are all hard Badger commits. Mors is a 6-7 stretch forward who is ranked as the top player in the state of South Dakota by 247sports.

Hepburn recently won the Nebraska State Championship with Bellevue West High School. The point guard has a crafty, gritty game that he is bringing with him to Madison. For more on the Wisconsin commit, check out our BadgersWire scouting report on Hepburn.

Hodges is a strong, 6-8 power forward from the state of Illinois who will come to Madison with a college-ready physique.

Looking forward, the Badgers have their eyes on a few more 2021 targets, most notably shooting guard Julian Roper. Roper was a high school teammate of UW 2020 signee Lorne Bowman at St. Mary’s in Michigan and has just announced that he will be making a college decision on May 4 via Twitter. Landing Roper would round out a fantastic 2021 class. Stay tuned on May 4 to find out where the Detroit (Mich.) native lands.

A top 2021 Wisconsin basketball target has set his commitment date

A top Wisconsin basketball target will make his college decision in the coming weeks

As first reported by Endless Motor Sports via Twitter, four-star shooting guard Julian Roper has set a commitment date of May 4th.

Roper has been a long-time Wisconsin target to add to an already impressive class of 2021 that features three four-star prospects according to 247sports. The Michigan native is prepping for his senior year at St. Mary’s high school where he shared the backcourt with 2020 Badger commit Lorne Bowman this past year.

Roper has listed 14 schools that are still in the running, including five Big Ten schools. Wisconsin commits in the class of 2021 have made their recruiting efforts public, led by 2021 pg Chucky Hepburn today on Twitter.

Roper would be one of the finishing touches on what could end up as Wisconsin basketball’s highest-ranked recruiting class of the modern recruiting rankings era. Tune in on May 4th to find out where the St. Mary’s star will take his talents next.

Top remaining targets for Wisconsin in the class of 2021

With the all of the members of the 2020 recruiting class signed, here’s a look at Wisconsin’s top remaining targets in the class of 2021.

Wisconsin has officially secured its five scholarship commits in the class of 2020, as Ben Carlson, Johnny and Jordan Davis, Lorne Bowman, and Steven Crowl all put pen to paper and signed their letters of intent to play for Greg Gard on the first day of the early signing period yesterday.

As it has been a while now, all eyes are now on the 2021 class, where the Badgers are off to a fantastic start early on with commitments from Matthew Mors, Chris Hodges, and Chucky Hepburn. However, the staff is looking to add at least one and possibly even two more prospects to this class.

Here the top three remaining targets on Wisconsin’s board.

1. Julian Roper – Shooting Guard

Hometown: Franklin, Mich.

Rankings (per the 247Sports composite): 4-star (No. 36 SG, No. 152 overall)

Other offers: Northwestern, Alabama, DePaul, Illinois, Iowa, Miami (Ohio), Missouri, Ohio State and Toledo

Wisconsin has been a major player in Roper’s recruitment since extending an offer to the 6-3, 183-pound prospect in February, to the point where the Badgers could very well be the favorite as things stand today.

An athletic, high-upside guard who can slash to the basket and knock down shots from outside, Wisconsin doesn’t have players like Roper in its backcourt very often, and Gard and company have heavily prioritized him as a result. Additionally, it certainly doesn’t hurt the Badgers’ chances that they have Bowman, a high school teammate of Roper, in his ear about continuing their partnership in the backcourt at the next level.

Wisconsin is in such good shape here that many Badger fans felt there was a possibility Roper would pull the trigger and commit during his official visit last weekend, though that ultimately did not come to pass.

While Wisconsin has been trending in Roper’s recruitment, if it isn’t able to lock him down before the start of the AAU season in the spring, the competition is likely to ramp up significantly given his talent and the fact that he plays on the high-profile Nike EYBL circuit. Keep a particularly close eye on what in-state powers Michigan and Michigan State do here, as the Wolverines and the Spartans remain in play even though offers haven’t been extended.

2. Logan Duncomb – Center

Hometown: Cincinnati, Ohio

Rankings (per the 247Sports composite): 4-star (No. 15 C, No. 123 overall)

Other offers: Indiana, Iowa, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Miami (Ohio), Winthrop and Xavier

Wisconsin already has a couple of frontcourt prospects committed in Mors and Hodges, but the staff wouldn’t mind adding a center to this class as well.

The Badgers have offered two 4-star recruits at the position in Duncomb and Jackson Grant (Olympia, Wash.), but the latter is off the board after committing to Washington last week. However, the good news is that Wisconsin appears to be sitting in a pretty good position for Duncomb at the moment.

The 6-9, 225-pound center has the typical skill set that the Badgers love to have in their system with his versatile, inside out offensive package, so it’s no surprise that Duncomb has become a priority target for the staff.

As with Roper, the Badgers were able to snag a crucial official visit from Duncomb in October.

An Iowa legacy, the Hawkeyes are a major factor in the recruitment as well, and Wisconsin is also facing stiff competition from Indiana and Ohio State at the moment.

3. Patrick Baldwin Jr. – Small Forward

Hometown: Sussex, Wis.

Rankings (per the 247Sports composite): 5-star (No. 2 overall)

Other offers: Duke, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, Marquette, North Carolina, Northwestern, Arizona State, DePaul, Iowa, Kansas State, LSU, Minnesota, Missouri, UCLA, UNLV, USC, Wake Forest and UW-Milwaukee

Baldwin could give 2020 Duke signee Jalen Johnson a run for his money as the best player to ever come out of the state by the time his prep career is over.

There’s also a strong case to be made that the 6-8 forward is the nation’s best player in the class of 2021 with his package of excellent positional size and length, lights-out shooting, athleticism, intangibles and advanced skill set. Baldwin will almost certainly be a one-and-done prospect for whichever college program is fortunate enough to secure his services for a season, and we could potentially be talking about a lottery selection in the NBA draft if all goes according to plan.

As a result, it’s no surprise that Baldwin is being heavily pursued by teams that make up the royalty of college basketball, such as Duke, Kentucky, Kansas and North Carolina. The Blue Devils, in particular, appear to be out in front to land the best prospect in Wisconsin for the second straight season as things stand today.

While the chances of Baldwin ending up in Madison are incredibly slim, don’t be surprised if the Badgers hang around in this recruitment for a while given the proximity to home and a longstanding relationship between assistant coach Howard Moore and his father, UW-Milwaukee head coach Patrick Baldwin.
