Georgia’s top-5 offensive players for 2021: No. 1 QB JT Daniels

Ranking Georgia’s top-5 offensive players for 2021: No. 1 QB JT Daniels

We are currently ranking Georgia’s top-five offensive players for the 2021 college football season.

5. WR George Pickens

4. OL Jamaree Salyer

3. WR Arik Gilbert

2. RB Zamir White

And at No. 1, we have quarterback JT Daniels.

Daniels looks ready to lead the Bulldogs in 2021 and he should be one of the nation’s top quarterbacks at the end of the season.

He had a phenomenal first year with Georgia, throwing for 1,231 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions in four games.

Everything seemed to click when Daniels lined up under center, and years of built-up frustration with the Georgia offense began to slip away.

Daniels transferred to UGA after spending the first two seasons of his career at USC. Daniels transferred from the Trojans following an ACL injury he suffered during the 2019 season opener. Daniels was still rehabbing the injury when he arrived in Athens and was not cleared to play until later in the 2020 college football season.

In three seasons at the prestigious Mater Dei High School, JT Daniels averaged more than 50 touchdown passes and 4,000 passing yards per season. Daniels was rated as the third ranked quarterback in his recruiting class behind Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields.

Daniels has solid experience from his days at USC. In 2018, Daniels threw for 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions for the Trojans. The former five-star recruit has the talent to put it all together this season.

Throwback: Watch UGA QB JT Daniels throw for 400 yards in his Georgia debut

USC transfer JT Daniels stepped in versus Mississippi State on Nov. 21 and threw his way into UGA record books. Watch the highlights here.

Georgia football gained a quarterback in 2020. USC transfer JT Daniels stepped in versus Mississippi State on Nov. 21 and threw his way into UGA record books with the most prolific debut passing performance in Georgia history.

Daniels would go on to beat Mississippi State 31-24 and win three more games games as Bulldogs signal caller, but his night versus MSU will always be remembered.

Let’s throw it back for a moment and relive Daniels big night:

Daniels completed 28 of 38 passes for 401 yards and added four touchdowns with zero interceptions, boosting the Bulldogs passing game and winning DawgNation over all in one night.

The good news for Georgia is the Santa Ana, Calif., native has elected to return to Athens for the 2021 season, making the Bulldogs a serious title contender.

What South Carolina media is saying about Georgia ahead of UGA at SC

No. 9 Georgia is set to face South Carolina at 7:30 ET in Columbia, televised on SEC Network. Here’s what the South Carolina media is saying.

No. 9 Georgia is set to face South Carolina at 7:30 ET in Columbia, televised on SEC Network.

South Carolina (2-6) led by former UGA quarterback Mike Bobo as interim coach is coming off of a 17-10 loss at Missouri last week.

Freshman quarterback Luke Doty replaced Senior Collyn Hill in the second half and is now set to get his first start as a Gamecock vs. the Bulldogs.

On the other side, Georgia is riding off of a terrific offensive performance in a 31-24 win vs. Mississippi State Saturday as USC transfer made his first start under center as a Bulldog and passed for 401 yards and four touchdowns.

Here’s what South Carolina media is saying about Georgia ahead of tonight’s game.

Final predictions: Carolina vs. Georgia

By John Whittle  – 247Sports

“Will Muschamp and Kirby Smart are friends and we all know how that turned out last year. Mike Bobo and Kirby Smart are better friends but no love will be lost Saturday. Smart can’t afford to lose this game and needs to run it up if they expect to be any factor in the CFP rankings. I expect Doty to start and while he will make some frustrating mistakes, he will spark the Gamecocks to another stunner. South Carolina 24 – Georgia 21”

Five numbers to know before South Carolina’s football game against No. 9 Georgia

By Eric BoyntonSpartenberg Herald

“32.1 – that’s Georgia’s average yardage on kickoff returns which ranks second only to LSU in the Southeastern Conference and third nationally. That’s nearly10 yards more than any of the teams next in line. Special teams could play a big part in this game with the Bulldogs also leading the league in kickoff return coverage and punting.”

Gameday Guide: Gamecocks vs Georgia

By GC Staff – Rivals

“Collyn Taylor: Georgia is good with a defense predicated on stopping the run, which South Carolina is going to rely on heavily. Best-case scenario for South Carolina is starting a true freshman likely without his No. 1 target in Shi Smith. Defensively South Carolina is held together like a MacGyver bomb, so it will be hard to stop a good Georgia rushing attack and a revitalized passing attack from JT Daniels. It’s going to be a tough row to hoe. Georgia 38, South Carolina 13”

Report: South Carolina QB Luke Doty to make first start for Gamecocks vs. Georgia

Freshman quarterback Luke Doty will be under center for South Carolina tonight vs. No. 9 Georgia. Details and analysis here.

We have expected to see freshman quarterback Luke Doty under center for South Carolina tonight vs. No. 9 Georgia and that is now confirmed, according to ABC Columbia’s Mike Gillespie.

Doty, a former 4-star recruit out of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, brings a dual-threat to a Gamecocks offense that will need some spark if they are going to give Georgia any type of battle.

Doty started the second half last week vs. Missouri, replacing senior Collin Hill and didn’t do much only managing 10 points, but showed promise particularly in the run game.

He completed 14 of 23 passes for 130 yards and an interception, while rushing 11 times for 59 yards.

He will face a Bulldogs defense that has been riddled with injuries this season. The Dawgs are still down star safety Richard LeCounte, who is out with rib injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident three weeks ago and star defensive lineman Jordan Davis has missed time with an elbow injury, however he may be able to go in Columba tonight.

The game is set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on SEC Network.

Georgia vs. South Carolina: Key matchups to watch

Here are the key matchups to watch when Georgia football travels to Columbia to take on South Carolina Saturday night on SEC Network.

No. 9 Georgia (5-2) is set to take on South Carolina (2-6) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on SEC Network.

The Bulldogs travel to Columbia in what the SEC is calling ‘rivalry week’ in 2020’s conference-only schedule.

The Gamecocks are led by interim coach Mike Bobo, former Georgia quarterback and offensive coordinator, after four-year coach Will Muschamp was fired earlier this season.

South Carolina lost to Missouri 17-10 on Saturday in a game that featured two different quarterbacks under center for the Gamecocks.

Freshman dual-threat Luke Doty replaced senior Collin Hill at halftime and as of now, we expect to see Doty at signal caller vs. the Bulldogs.

Georgia comes in to this one riding a 31-24 win vs. Mississippi State in which USC transfer quarterback JT Daniels looked like a star, throwing for 401yards and four touchdowns on 28 of 38 passing in his first start as a Georgia Bulldog.

Here are the key matchups to watch for when Georgia travels to Columbia Saturday night.

UGA QB JT Daniels projected as 2021 first-round pick in latest NFL mock draft

CBS Sports projects Georgia QB JT Daniels as 2021 first round pick in latest NFL mock draft. Details and analysis here.

USC transfer quarterback JT Daniels seemed to turn some heads after his blistering 400-yard performance in his first start as a Georgia Bulldog.

He completed 28 of 38 passes for 401 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions vs. Mississippi State last Saturday and now, in the latest CBS Sports NFL mock draft, he’s projected as the No. 17 overall pick to the Chicago Bears.

CBS Sports’ Another swing at the quarterback position for the Bears. Daniels is a top talent with a strong arm, rapid release and accuracy to all levels of the field. And if he continues to play like did in his Georgia debut, there will be first-round buzz for him.”

Mock drafts at this point in the year are purely speculation as many variables are yet to be known before the draft takes place on April 29 – May 1.

JT Daniels missed 14 months of football after suffering an ACL tear in 2019 while at USC, and while he played great this passed Saturday, it was against a bad Mississippi State defense that sold out to stop the Georgia run game.

Point being, the sample size is not nearly large enough to expect Daniels as a mid first-round pick next year, even after a year under his belt at USC where he threw for 2,672 yards with 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Daniels will get another chance to prove his potential when No. 9 Georgia takes on South Carolina this Saturday night at 7:30 p.m., televised on SEC Network.

5 reasons why Georgia beats South Carolina

No. 9 Georgia (5-2) travels to Columbia to face South Carolina (2-6) Saturday night. Here’s 5 reasons why the Dawgs win.

DawgNation, we’d usually be getting ready to watch Georgia take on Georgia Tech in the matchup of Clean Old Fashioned Hate, but just like everything in 2020, we have a curveball coming our way.

That’s right, No. 9 Georgia (5-2) travels to Columbia to face South Carolina (2-6) in what the SEC is calling ‘rivalry week’.

The Gamecocks are led by interim head coach, former Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, after South Carolina fired coach Will Muschamp after four mediocre seasons in Columbia.

Georgia is coming off of a 31-24 win vs. Mississippi State and a spectacular 400-yard showing by USC transfer JT Daniels in his first start at quarterback as a Bulldog.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on the SEC Network

Watch: Georgia sack seals 31-24 win vs. Mississippi State

Check out Georgia’s sack that sealed a close win for the Bulldogs vs. Mississippi State in Athens. Details and analysis here.

I don’t think anyone saw this game shaking out the way it did but here we are, four pressure-filled quarters later and Georgia gets a close win at home vs. Mississippi State 31-24.

The Bulldogs rushing attack was stuffed, only gaining eight yards the entire game, but JT Daniels was incredible in his first career start as a Georgia Bulldog, he completed 28 of 38 passes for 401 yards and four touchdowns.

Like the running game, the heralded UGA defense struggled mightily, especially on getting Mississippi State off the field.

The Bulldogs from Starkville converted on 7 of 13 first downs on their way to 358 total yards, including 336 yards passing and 22 yards rushing.

But even in a game where things didn’t go according to plan, the Georgia defense came up clutch when the team needed it most, sacking MSU quarterback Will Rodgers to seal the game for the Dawgs.

What a play by star linebacker and game captain Azeez Ojulari.

Watch it here:

I loved what I saw from JT Daniels and these Bulldog receivers tonight.

Freshman Trey Burton had 8 catches for 197 yards and two touchdowns while star sophomore George Pickens caught 8 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Things are looking good for 2021, DawgNation!

What to expect from JT Daniels vs. Mississippi State

USC transfer quarterback JT Daniels is set to make his first start as a Georgia Bulldog vs. Mississippi State. Here’s what to expect.

We are now in the JT Daniels chapter of the ever stressful Georgia quarterback drama.

The USC transfer quarterback is set to make his first career start as a Georgia Bulldog vs. Mississippi State in Athens on Saturday night.

After redshirt freshman D’Wan Mathis’ start at signal caller vs. Arkansas in the season-opener, junior Stetson Bennett has received the majority of the snaps and has started each game until this week, which is due, in part, to a shoulder separation injury suffered in the loss to Florida.

We expected to see Daniels get on the field a bit earlier than the seventh game of the season and there were plenty of opportunities to get his feet wet, however Daniels’ mobility on his surgically repaired left knee has been an issue.

As the season has progressed, Georgia coach Kirby Smart has been more open about Daniels’ knee and mobility concerns.

“His mobility has been better,” Smart said in a press conference Wednesday.

As a freshman at USC in 2018, Daniels threw for 2,672 yards with 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He entered the transfer portal in mid-April after his sophomore season was derailed by an ACL tear.

Daniels was the third rated quarterback in the 2018 recruiting class behind Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields and while at USC, he showed flashes of an elite passer, like here on his first touchdown pass of his collegiate career.

But what kind of expectations should Georgia fans have for Daniels in his first start?

Put simply, the only expectations DawgNation should have is a Georgia win.

Coach Mike Leach and the Bulldogs from Starkville are limping into Athens. 17 players have either opted-out of this season or have transferred on top of more players being forced to miss tonight’s game because of COVID testing.

In turn, Georgia should make quick work of Mississippi State tonight and Daniels should preform well as a result, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here and make sure to remember who we are playing.

I’m looking for Daniels to show command of the offense by hitting the easy throws that we haven’t been able to hit all season.

Offensive coordinator Todd Monken and company have done a good job of getting guys open, but Bennett and Mathis’ inaccuracy has been the issue.

If Daniels can hit those easy throws, show leadership and protect the football, I think we can walk away from this one feeling good about 2021.
