No. 9 Georgia is in Columbia to take on South Carolina tonight in the SEC’s ‘rivalry’ week.

South Carolina is led by interim coach,  former Georgia quarterback and offensive coordinator, Mike Bobo after four year coach Will Muschamp was fired earlier this season.

The Gamecocks (2-6) are coming off of a 17-10 loss to Missouri last week in which freshman quarterback Luke Doty replaced senior Collin Hill under center in the second half.

The 2020 4-star dual-threat recruit is set to get his first start as a Gamecock as Georgia (5-2) comes to town to avenge the embarrassing double overtime loss last year in Athens.

USC transfer quarterback JT Daniels will get his second start at quarterback for the Bulldogs while riding with a 400-yard performance under his belt in his first start last week vs. Mississippi State.

Here’s how the last five games have shook out.

  • Oct 12, 2019 – South Carolina 20 vs. Georgia 17
  • Sep 08, 2018 – Georgia 41 vs. South Carolina 17
  • Nov 04, 2017 – Georgia 24 vs. South Carolina 10
  • Oct 09, 2016 – Georgia 28 vs. South Carolina 14
  • Sep 19, 2015 – Georgia 52 vs. South Carolina 20

Prediction:

South Carolina is missing four defensive starters who decided to opt-out of the rest of the 2020 season after Muschamp was let go, including star defensive back Israel Mukuamu, who had three interceptions including a pick-6 last year vs. UGA.

Not a great look, especially when Georgia’s pass game seemed to find its stride last week with JT Daniels under center.

Gamecocks freshman quarterback Doty will have his work cut out for him against a talented Bulldogs defense who has been riddled with injuries this season, but is the healthiest its been in weeks with the possibility of star defensive tackle getting some reps in after missing some time with an elbow injury.

The Dawgs will have to stuff the run game to keep the Gamecocks from being able to get explosive plays off of play action, but with the inexperience of Doty and South Carolina missing its deep threat in receiver Shi Smith, it shouldn’t be difficult.

I’m taking Georgia win and cover 38-13.

Dawgs, make sure you’re caught up on all things Georgia football before the game! I breakdown it all, including JT Daniels’ big performance and what it means for UGA in 2021 in this week’s episode of UGA Football Live with J.C. Shelton. Listen here:
