Rams sign former Georgia Bulldog LB to active roster

The Los Angeles Rams have signed former Georgia Bulldog linebacker Natrez Patrick to their active roster and elevated J.R. Reed.

The Los Angeles Rams have signed former Georgia Bulldog linebacker Natrez Patrick to their active roster ahead of Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. The Rams have had Natrez Patrick on both their 53-man roster and their practice squad this season.

Patrick has played in 19 career games for Los Angeles. He has recorded one tackle thus far this season.

Additionally, the Los Angeles Rams elevated former University of Georgia safety J.R. Reed from their practice squad to their game day roster. Reed made his NFL debut last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Rams made the two moves in a series of roster transactions. Additionally, L.A. activated former New England Patriots defensive end Derek Rivers from exemption and restored defensive back Jake Gervase to the practice squad.

Overall, the Los Angeles Rams are 7-3 and are looking to hold off the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West. Reed and Patrick may help the Rams make the playoffs if they can make impact plays on special teams and on defense.

Los Angeles Rams add former Georgia All-American to practice squad

The Los Angeles Rams have signed former Georgia Bulldogs safety J.R. Reed to their practice squad

The Los Angeles Rams have signed former Georgia Bulldogs safety J.R. Reed to their practice squad. Reed was a first team Walter Camp All-American last season for the University of Georgia.

Reed went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft, despite his impressive accolades. He originally signed an undrafted deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but they cut him before the season.

Now, Reed will be reunited with former UGA defensive back Tyrique McGhee on the Los Angeles practice squad. Reed has the instincts and skill to compete in the NFL, but his physical traits have been questioned.

For Los Angeles Rams fans who are unfamiliar with J.R. Reed, they should know that they are landing a playmaker. Reed forced seven total turnovers in three seasons with Georgia. He racked up 199 tackles during this time. He’s a veteran, who played in 42 games throughout his decorated college career.

Jacksonville Jaguars waive former Georgia DB

The Jacksonville Jaguars have waived former Georgia Bulldogs safety J.R. Reed.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have waived former Georgia Bulldogs safety J.R. Reed. Reed was quite a productive player for the University of Georgia, but went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft. Now, he’ll look to stick with the Jaguars practice squad or sign elsewhere.

J.R.’s father, Jake, played in the NFL. It is a tough year for unproven players to make a roster. With the lack of preseason games, shortened training camp, and unusual protocols, it is even more challenging than most seasons to make the roster as an undrafted player.

J.R. was a playmaker in Athens, but there were concerns about his athletic profile heading into the NFL Draft. Reed has impressive instincts and deserves another opportunity. We’ll update you on what is next for Reed.

Here’s the full list of Jacksonville’s roster moves today, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter:

Former Georgia S J.R. Reed’s new number on Jacksonville Jaguars

Here’s what number for Georgia football safety JR Reed will wear for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Former Georgia safety J.R. Reed surprisingly did not get selected in the 2020 NFL Draft but quickly signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Reed wore #20 during his years at Georgia, and according to the Jaguars’ official website, he will don #30 in Jacksonville.

The fact Reed went undrafted was a huge head scratcher. He started every game at safety for Georgia from 2017-2019 and was named to the Associated Press All-SEC second team (2017) and Walter Camp All-America first team (2019).

Apparently, the reason Reed went undrafted was thanks to a torn ACL he suffered while at Prestonwood Christian High School in Plano, Texas.

His father, Jake Reed (former Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints WR), told Vikings writer Chris Tomasson that Reed was medically flagged as a result of that injury.

I’d expect Reed to earn a roster spot despite going undrafted and being medically flagged. If not in Jacksonville, then somewhere else.

Reed transferred to Georgia following his freshman season at Tulsa. After sitting the 2016 season, he became a staple on the Bulldogs’ 2017 Rose Bowl championship team.

In 2019, Reed was named one of four permanent team captains.

Reed made a number of big plays during his career as a Bulldog, with big interceptions against Alabama, Florida and two career touchdowns as well.

Reed is also the nephew of Dale Carter, a four-time pro bowler and two-time All-Pro.

Report: Why Georgia S JR Reed did not get drafted

Twitter reactions to Georgia S JR Reed signing UDFA deal

Georgia safety JR Reed did not get picked in the 2020 NFL Draft, but he did sign an undrafted free agent deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the moments following the draft.

The fact that Reed went undrafted was a huge head scratcher. He started every game at safety for Georgia from 2017-2019, being named to the Associated Press All-SEC 2nd Team (2017) and Walter Camp All-America First Team (2019).

He has some of the best instincts I’ve seen from a collegiate defensive back, does not miss tackles and has a nose for the football.

Apparently, the reason Reed went undrafted is because of a torn ACL he suffered while at Prestonwood Christian High School in Plano, Texas.

His father, Jake Reed (former Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints WR), told Vikings beat writer Chris Tomasson that Reed was medically flagged as a result of that injury.

Tomasson writes for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, a newspaper based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, primarily serving the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

Georgia Bulldogs safety J.R. Reed signs with AFC South team

Georgia Bulldogs safety J.R. Reed has shockingly gone undrafted after being a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Award.

Georgia Bulldogs safety J.R. Reed has shockingly gone undrafted. Now, he’s signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Reed was a playmaking defensive back for the Dawgs last season. He elected to return for his senior season and did not disappoint.

Reed was a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Award, awarded to the top defensive player in the country, during his 2019 campaign. Reed defended seven passes last season and intercepted a pass against Notre Dame. He forced seven turnovers over his career in Athens.

Reed will be playing at the next level in the NFL despite going undrafteed. He’ll be a priority free agent for NFL teams.

He has excellent anticipation and helped Georgia make three straight SEC Championships. During his senior season the Georgia Bulldogs had the best scoring defense in the NCAA.

Before the NFL Draft, Reed has been compared to a Dallas Cowboys safety. Reed is NFL-ready and is fully capable of starting. He’s a little older than most prospects, but his experience and solid fundamentals should help him adapt to the speed of the game in the NFL. Reed will be extremely motivated to prove his doubters wrong.

UGA football NFL player comparisons ahead of 2020 Draft

We examine UGA NFL comparisons for D’Andre Swift, JR Reed, Jake Fromm, Isaiah Wilson, Andrew Thomas, Solomon Kindley, and Lawrence Cager.

The Georgia Bulldogs are expected to have anywhere from six to ten players selected in the 2020 NFL Draft. But what NFL players are elite UGA prospects being compared to?

Georgia Bulldog quarterback Jake Fromm is anticipated to be one of the top quarterbacks selected. Where he falls among the best prospects is up for debate.

Jake Fromm’s player comparison is current Washington Redskin’s quarterback Colt McCoy. McCoy doesn’t have elite physical talent, but is a solid player who has been in the NFL for ten seasons. PFF compares Fromm to another similar NFL player.

McCoy has been a back-up for much of his career, which is an indication of what NFL.com thinks of Jake Fromm. Fromm, like McCoy, had a distinguished career at a major college.

McCoy, who was a star for the Texas Longhorns, has thrown for 29 touchdowns and 27 interceptions across 28 career NFL starts. He has over 6,000 career passing yards. McCoy was a third round pick in 2010.

USA TODAY identifies two Bulldogs who could be NFL Draft steals

USA TODAY has released a list of 11 players who could be major steals for NFL teams approaching the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday April 23rd.

USA TODAY released a list of eleven players who could be steals in the 2020 NFL Draft.  The draft is set to take place Thursday, April 23rd to Saturday, April 25th and will happen remotely for the first time in its history.

The list has one player per position that some teams could easily overlook, while others could be getting a major steal.

The list that had just eleven players featured two Georgia players on it.

The first of the Dawgs players listed as a steal is at the safety position with former Georgia standout JR Reed.

Reed had a spectacular career playing in Athens, tallying up 199 tackles, 5 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries and 2 touchdowns. Reed stands at 6-1, 195 lbs giving him a good sized NFL frame.  The son of 12-year NFL player Jake Reed spoke to Draft Wire about what NFL teams will get if they draft him.

“They’re gonna get a leader, on and off the field. They’re gonna get a versatile safety that can play multiple positions. I can come down in the box, I can play in the middle of the field and I can cover the tight end or anybody really.” said Reed.  “They’re gonna get a franchise safety. The term franchise gets thrown around a lot with the quarterbacks. Just like the franchise quarterback is supposed to be around for a long time, I’m a franchise safety that’s gonna be around for a long time.”

The second of the Dawgs players listed as a steal is at the kicker position with Rodrigo Blankenship.

Blankenship finished his career at Georgia hitting 80/97 field goal attempts (82.5%) and scoring 440 points for the Dawgs.  Believe it or not, Hot Rod is the highest-scoring player in Georgia football history and will be a perfect fit to be an NFL team’s franchise kicker for years to come.  Kickers really are undervalued in the NFL these days and Blankenship could be a huge steal for some teams in need of a decent kicker.

It is pretty impressive that two out of eleven of the players listed to be steals in the 2020 draft are Georgia players.  Miami was another school to feature two players as steals on the list.

It may be a couple of rounds in, but whoever takes JR Reed or Rodrigo Blankenship are going to have some serious talent in their hands.

Georgia’s J.R. Reed receives NFL player comparison

Georgia Bulldog great J.R. Reed has received his NFL.com player comparison ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft

Georgia Bulldog great J.R. Reed has received his NFL.com player comparison ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft. Reed returned to Athens for his senior season and had a massive season for the Dawgs. Reed recorded 54 tackles, secured a key interception versus Notre Dame, and broke up seven passes in 2019.

Reed had a good NFL Combine and will hope to be drafted into an excellent situation in the NFL. He has the talent to play right out of the gate, but could end up as a back up if a team has good starting safeties.

With Reed’s play recognition and sound coverage, don’t discount the odds of him starting as a rookie. Reed overcame the odds to make it to the University of Georgia after gray-shirting and then playing sparingly as a back-up at Tulsa. Reed transferred to Kirby Smart and UGA following one season at Tulsa.

The rest is history. Reed helped lead Georgia to three straight SEC title game appearances and a National Championship Game appearance. Reed was a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Award during his 2019 campaign.

Now, Reed is being compared to Dallas Cowboys safety Xavier Woods:

Woods, who went to school at Louisiana Tech, was drafted in the sixth round by the Dallas Cowboys. Woods, like Reed, relies more on his mental attributes than his physical traits. While both players aren’t bad athletes, neither is ‘elite’.

Woods is entering his fourth season in the NFL. He’s intercepted five passes for the Cowboys and started at safety this past season. Not a bad comparison for Reed. Over three seasons Woods has forced eight turnovers in the NFL. J.R. Reed forced seven in three seasons in Athens.

Watch: UGA’s JR Reed runs solid forty, does positional drills

JR Reed, a former Georgia Bulldog, had a solid NFL Combine to help his draft stock.

J.R. Reed helped lead the Georgia Bulldogs to having the top scoring defense in the nation in 2019. Now, Reed is preparing for the 2020 NFL Draft.

Reed, who is an older prospect, will have his work cut out for him. Reed’s athleticism has been questioned some. He was able to silence some of the doubters at the NFL Combine:

Reed shows flexible hips in this positional drill. Reed will have to prove to NFL teams that his football saavy and IQ will help him have an excellent NFL career despite being one of the older prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft.

J.R. Reed helped Georgia have elite defenses during his three seasons in Athens. He forced seven turnovers throughout his career and was considered one of college football’s top defenders in 2019. He’ll be tough to replace in 2020 for UGA, but he will be fun to watch in the NFL on Sundays.
