2021 NBA Draft Big Board 3.0: Top 100 prospects pre-early entry deadline

As the NBA’s 2020-21 regular season nears its close, the league’s next wave of talent is preparing to take the great leap to become pros.

As the NBA’s 2020-21 regular season nears its close, the league’s next wave of talent is preparing to take the great leap to become pros.

Players have until the end of this month, May 30, to apply for entry into the 2021 NBA draft. They will then have until July 19 to determine whether or not they plan to stay in this class or (unless they hired an agent who does not have NCAA certification) return to school.

This is obviously an incredibly difficult decision and as the majority of early entry candidates have made their intentions public, those who are testing the waters are already weighing their options.

Fortunately, the NBA’s Undergraduate Advisory Committee (UAC) exists to help answer some of those questions.

The advisory committee, which began in 1997, offers feedback to prospects on their potential draft stock. As many prospects are facing pivotal decisions about their future, this kind of intel is incredibly important.

Players like Gonzaga’s Corey Kispert and Baylor’s Jared Butler both went through this process last season, likely were not satisfied with the results and opted to return. Now, after tremendous efforts last season, both are projected first-rounders.

These decisions have tremendous financial implications for these individuals as well. For example, even if Kispert or Butler went with the last pick in the first round in 2020, they would have likely earned a contract worth around $5 million over three years. This year, even if they went outside of the lottery at at No. 15 overall, that would be around $8.5 million.

With that in mind, for the latest version of For The Win’s 2021 NBA draft big board, I’ve provided my evaluation for the top prospects expected to be in the pre-draft process. Players excluded from this exercise were likely because the reporting suggests that they are going back to school.

Note that these decisions were fully based on where I would have each player ranked, not a projection, although various conversations with scouts as well as other talent evaluators around the league have factored into my evaluation.

The No. 18 Alabama Crimson Tide crushed the LSU Tigers, 105-75, on Tuesday night in Baton Rouge to remain undefeated in SEC play.

It was a historic shooting performance for the Crimson Tide. Alabama made 23 3-pointers, setting a new SEC record, and shot 53.5 percent from beyond the arc.

The Tide jumped on the Tigers early, gaining a double-digit lead before the first television timeout. A big reason for Alabama’s early success was senior guard John Petty.

Petty, who was eight of 10 from 3-point range for the game, connected on seven of eight attempts in the first half. As a team, Alabama was 14 of 19 on 3-point attempts before the half, where it led 60-32 after the first 20 minutes.

The Crimson Tide’s hot shooting continued in the second half building a 40-point lead at one point.

For as hot as Alabama was from the field, the Tigers were quite the opposite. LSU shot 37.8 percent from the field and just 19 percent from beyond the arc.

Petty led the Crimson Tide with 24 points, while freshman guard Joshua Primo and sophomore guard Jahvon Quinerly scored 22 points each. Primo and Quinerly combined to make 12 of 15 3-point attempts.

LSU freshman guard Cameron Thomas — the SEC’s leading scorer — led the Tigers with 18 points.

The win moves Alabama to 12-3 on the season and 7-0 in the SEC. LSU falls to 10-3, with a 5-2 mark in league play.

Alabama has now won eight consecutive games and hosts Mississippi State on Saturday.

LSU heads back on the road with back-to-back meetings against Kentucky and Texas A&M.

BREAKING: Alabama basketball lands 5-star CG Joshua Primo

Alabama basketball landed a huge commitment on Friday with five-star combo guard Joshua Primo out of Ohio.

Alabama basketball got a huge commitment on Friday morning, as Joshua Primo announced that he would be joining the Crimson Tide’s 2020 recruiting class.

The news was announced by several media outlets, but the five-star combo guard from Royal Crown High School in Toronto (Ohio.) made it official on his own Twitter account:

This is a major addition for head coach Nate Oats and the rest of the Alabama basketball program, as it was announced earlier in the week that starting guards Kira Lewis Jr. and John Petty would be entering their names into the 2020 NBA Draft.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Primo is a four-star prospect and rated as the No. 47 overall player, the No. 8 combo guard and No. 1 player from the state of Ohio.

The rankings for 247Sports specifically, however, rated the 6-foot-6, 180-pound shooter as a five-star while ranking him No. 27 overall and the No. 7 combo guard.

Primo is officially the Crimson Tide’s second commitment for the 2020 class after reclassifying from 2021. He is joined by four-star power forward Keon Ambrose-Hylton, who is the No. 115 overall player.
