Ohio State included in Joel Klatt’s new college football week 3 top ten

FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt released his new top ten in college football after week three, and Ohio State is near the top.

FOX College Football’s Joel Klatt is no stranger to Ohio State football. He was on the call all of last season as the Buckeyes often appeared as the featured Big Noon Kickoff Game of the Week last season. He and play-by-play guy Gus Johnson are the A-team that comes to your television set or streaming device for each of those noon window games, so he’s seen OSU a ton.

Aside for this year of course as the Big ten sits on the sidelines waiting for the season to start in late October. Still, that hasn’t stopped Klatt from including whatever teams he believes are the best in the country whether they have played a game or not.

Klatt updated his most recent top ten after last week’s games and has Ohio State firmly in the top five at No. 2 overall, behind only Clemson, and just ahead of Alabama at No. 3.

Here’s the tweet Klatt shared on Twitter that reveals his complete top ten after a few big upsets that have shaken things up.

It’s refreshing to see a media member include teams that are eligible for the season even if they haven’t played. Others — even ones that vote in the major polls — have left Big Ten and Pac-12 teams out because they haven’t played a game yet.

We’ve always liked Klatt. Now we know why.

WATCH: FOX’s Joel Klatt on the winners and losers of the new Big Ten schedule

FOX college football analyst Joel Klatt on the Big Ten schedule

The Badgers have it good according to FOX lead college football analyst Joel Klatt. On the third Big Ten attempt at putting together a schedule, Wisconsin got a favorable draw. The biggest reason according to Klatt? No Ohio State.

Here is more on why the Badgers will have a favorable road towards the Big Ten championship game:

WATCH: Joel Klatt explains which teams got the best and worst deals with the Big Ten football schedules

FOX’s Joel Klatt explained what Big Ten teams have an easy road vs. which have hard work in front of them. What did he say about Ohio State?

It’s the third attempt at Big Ten football schedules for 2020 and we’re hopeful that it’ll stick this time around. I mean, at least there are games now on the docket and not put on the shelve to collect dust.

With the conference’s decision of each team playing eight regular-season games and a unique +1 championship week in nine weeks’ time, there wasn’t a lot of flexibility in scheduling. A premium was put on division matchups with just a couple of cross-over games available.

But who made out with this new schedule and what teams have their work cut out for them? FOX College Football’s Joel Klatt took to Twitter to give you his opinion on both sides of the coin, and it all has to do with who avoids Ohio State.

He first started with the three teams that got the best draw with the schedules. Those three are the Buckeyes at No. 1, followed by Wisconsin, then Minnesota.

“It’s very easy, you know why?” asked Klatt. “Because those three teams don’t play Ohio State. That’s the bottom line folks. When it comes to the Big Ten schedule, that’s where it starts and stops — if you have to play this Ohio State team.”

Klatt then went on to explain what makes the Buckeyes such a tough out this year.

“Ohio State themselves, probably going to be favored by close to double-digits in every single one of their games pending what happens with health of course, and COVID-related benchings and so on and so forth with isolation and quarantine. But that team is really good, in particular with a couple of those opt back-ins with Shaun Wade and Wyatt Davis — the guard who’s probably a first-round player. So Ohio State looks primed.”

But who does Klatt believe got a raw deal with the schedule? How about Michigan and Nebraska. And yeah, you guessed it, they both play OSU.

You can listen to the entire segment Klatt put together and shared on Twitter by clicking on the below.

It’s a great time to be a Buckeye fan because there’s a ton of talent, a ton on the line every year, and a ton of respect for where this program is right now. Let’s hope it lasts, and let’s hope Ohio State can carve up its schedule and get to another College Football Playoff this fall.

Where is Ohio Sate in the FOX College Football Joel Klatt’s top ten?

FOX College Football’s Joel Klatt released his new top ten for the season and it’s apparent he has a high regard for Ohio State.

FOX College Football’s Joel Klatt has become very familiar to Ohio State football fans over the last year or so because of his role in announcing several Buckeye games in the FOX Noon window. OSU has appeared as the Big Noon Game of the Week several times, so fans got to rub elbows virtually with him a lot last season.

Not only that, but he genuinely has a very high regard for what Ohio State has done on the field over the last couple of years, and was one of the most outspoken advocates for the Buckeyes last season.

Now that the Big Ten is back in business with playing games this fall, there are sure to be some more of Joel Klatt coming to a television set near you soon for more Ohio State football games. In fact, it’s already been announced that the first Buckeye game of the year against Nebraska will kick off at Noon on FOX. Also, the Ohio State vs. Michigan game will also be on the network with Klatt the likely analyst.

So, it is worth a look then to see that Klatt has Ohio State firmly in his newly released top ten at No. 2, behind the Clemson Tigers at No. 1. The rest of his top ten is below (no, Michigan is not included).

It’s still too early to really know where all these teams will stack up, so we’ll keep an eye on things as the season progresses.

Many of the talking heads of college football have been releasing their personal polls on social media, giving the public a glimpse at some varying opinions when it comes to ranking teams in this coronavirus-altered fall season.

Joe Klatt, a college football and NFL draft analyst at FOX Sports, offered his take on Twitter Sunday morning after Week 3 had completed play with his top-10 rankings. His picks were generally conservative, though he is a little bit higher on the Florida Gators than others, placing UF fifth in the nation before the beginning of Southeastern Conference play next weekend.

The Clemson Tigers are in first place — as they tend to be in every single poll out there — followed by the Ohio State Buckeyes, Alabama Crimson Tide, Oklahoma Sooners and the Gators in the top half of the order. The Georgia Bulldogs land sixth, with the Penn State Nittany Lions, Texas Longhorns, LSU Tigers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish rounding out the top-10, giving the SEC four of Klatt’s top picks.

Watch: Texas head coach Tom Herman talks about bringing the A&M game back

Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman spoke with Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt about bringing back the Lone Star Showdown with Texas A&M.

Every offseason it seems like the same arguments around the water cooler. Should they bring the Texas-Texas A&M Lone Star Showdown back? Could they bring it back? Well if you ask Texas head coach Tom Herman the answer is really simple. Yes they should bring it back. As a former graduate assistant in 1999-2000, Herman understands the importance of the game. He spoke with Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt about the game.

“I have no idea how closer we are,” Herman continues “I wish were much closer. Again those decisions were made outside of my scope of influence sometimes. It just makes sense to me, you’re right. I have been on record of saying if Clemson and South Carolina can figure it out every year. Georgia-Georgia Tech. Iowa-Iowa State. Florida-Florida State, where do you want me to stop? These in-state rivalries that are hundreds of years old, these schools are in different conferences. That’s okay. Let’s figure it out.”

“I would much rather play Texas A&M, home and home every other year. Have my one non-conference road game be an hour and a half bus trip east rather than getting on a plane and going to Los Angeles. For a night game to play USC or going to Columbus, Ohio or Gainesville, Florida.”

“It just makes too much sense. I hope at some point in the very near future these decision makers can see that, put their egos aside. Bring one of, if not the greatest rivalries in college football back. (Bring it back) to everybody’s living room and more importantly to Austin and College Station.”

FOX’s Joel Klatt ranks the top five helmets in college football

FOX’s Joel Klatt ranked his top-five helmets in all of college football. Did he include the Ohio State lid?

Debating the best-looking college football helmet in the game can get awfully heated, but that hasn’t stopped endless writers, media members, and fans from weighing in on the topic almost monthly it seems.

FOX’s Joel Klatt is the latest, and you won’t like where this is going. He ranked his top five helmets in college football and had some interesting takes, none of which included the iconic silver helmet with buckeye leaves affixed that Ohio State dons every year.

Instead, Klatt’s top five consisted of, in order — Colorado, Texas, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Alabama.

We have some serious beef with all of this (yeah we’re biased). First of all Joel, we know you played for the Buffaloes, but c’mon, their helmet is nowhere near aesthetically pleasing nor an iconic brand. That’s just blatant homerism at its best. All that design consists of is taking the standard college logo and slapping the initials in the middle of it. Bland.

The others Klatt singles out would make the team picture of almost anyone that has a sense of tradition and reverence for the sport. But if you’re going to put in the plain lids of Notre Dame and Alabama, you could at least give Ohio State’s helmet a nod, especially when those buckeye leaves begin to set it apart.

To be fair, Klatt did identify the Buckeye helmet as an honorable mention, but we have an issue with that too.

Penn State? Really? That salad ensemble looks like someone was up against the gun and had to come up with a helmet design as the players were running out on the field.

Report: ESPN could shift Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit to MNF if college season is delayed

Could ESPN’s top college team of Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit be headed for Monday Night Football?

The anticipation will continue to grow when it comes to what voices ESPN will tab as the next “Monday Night Football” team. And Front Office Sports reported Monday the college football season — or a delay to the start of it — could play a huge role.

FOS reports ESPN would consider moving Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit into the MNF booth if there is any delay to the college football season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If college football’s fall season is delayed or, at worst, canceled, ESPN will likely turn to its top college football broadcast team of analyst Kirk Herbstreit and play-by-play announcer Chris Fowler to call “MNF,” sources tell Front Office Sports.

“It all hinges on when and if college football comes back,” a source told FOS. “If Herbstreit and Fowler are ESPN’s best football booth, and a lot of execs at ESPN believe they are, why not have them call Monday Night? They call the College Football Playoff National Championship game every year.”

ESPN is replacing the team of Joe Tessitore and Booger McFarland, which was heavily criticized during its two years.

Should college football kick off on time, the names bandied about for MNF have been: Louis Riddick, Dan Orlovsky, Pat McAfee, Steve Levy, Dave Pasch, and Brian Griese.

ESPN is not alone in playing a waiting game on NFL voices. FOX has to replace analyst Charles Davis, who left for CBS. FOS suggests FOX could move Joel Klatt into the role Davis vacated if college football is delayed.

WATCH: Joel Klatt picks Ohio State RB Trey Sermon as transfer that could have the biggest impact this season

FOX’s Joel Klatt singled out Ohio State RB grad transfer Trey Sermon as one of the biggest impact transfers this coming season.

It’s the new normal. The transfer portal is here to stay it appears, and with it, the ability of college football players to move about the country like a shell game has become easier and easier. Add that to so many transfers like Ohio State’s Justin Fields and Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts that have done it with great success, and it only becomes more appealing.

With that in mind, you can bet there will be big-time contributions from transfers each and every college football season, including this 2020 one that appears set to kick-off on schedule .

To that end, the FOX College Football crew discussed which transfer will have the biggest impact for their team in 2020, and analyst Joel Klatt — who has very kind to Ohio State as of late — singled out Ohio State running back graduate transfer Trey Sermon from Oklahoma.

Next … What Klatt says about Sermon and Ohio State
