Texas Football: Brady Quinn asks Urban Meyer about Austin

On the Fox pregame show on Saturday, Brady Quinn asked Urban Meyer about fixing Austin. It seemed like he is hinting at the Texas job rumors

Seemingly every weekend on the College Football on Fox pregame show fans and media watch former National Championship winning head coach Urban Meyer closely. With the rumors running rampant about the possibility of Meyer replacing his former offensive coordinator at Texas. It had made huge waves to the point that Tom Herman was asked to address the elephant in the room in his press conference earlier this week.

His comments made national headlines and even Joel Klatt discussed his answer with Colin Cowherd on Fox Sports Radio on Wednesday.

“Tom Herman came out and said it’s hurting us in recruiting that there are rumors about Urban Meyer in Texas. Hold on, one you don’t address that. Right, like I know Tom. Tom if you are listening to this, don’t address that. Go out there and win games, keep your job and you’ll be fine. I don’t quite understand, Texas A&M has really hit the recruiting trail hard and Lincoln Riley is an excellent recruiter.”

On the pregame show on Saturday morning, it appears that Meyer teased the fan base about the whole scenario. In a discussion about the best college towns, Matt Leinart brought up Austin, Texas. Brady Quinn then asked Meyer if that was the next town he was going to fix. Meaning the football team that plays in Austin, the Texas Longhorns. Meyer simply stated, “I don’t know yet.”

For a fan base that has been split by the football program, some have been looking for any sign that Urban Meyer might come to Texas. He might be teasing them here but there seems to be quite a bit of smoke. As they say, where there is smoke there is fire. The question becomes just how big is that fire?

It might not be a raging inferno yet but combine a loss to Iowa State with Quinn Ewers heading to Ohio State, it could be soon enough.

Joel Klatt rips Tom Herman and Texas, praises A&M and Oklahoma

Fox College Football analyst Joel Klatt went on the Colin Cowherd show and ripped into Tom Herman and the Texas Longhorns.

Things have not been pretty at the University of Texas as of late. Really for the last decade. The Longhorns have played for one Big 12 Championship and one New Years Six bowl since their last BCS National Championship in 2009. This year it seemed like it would finally be the year for Tom Herman and the Texas Longhorns. Even though they are 5-2 and 4-2 in conference play, they are hurting on the recruiting trail.

Fox College Football analyst Joel Klatt went on the Colin Cowherd show and ripped into the Texas program. More importantly the head coach Tom Herman and his recruiting or lack thereof.

“It’s a problem,” Klatt stated as he opened up about Texas. “It certainly wasn’t the case when Mack [Brown] was winning a lot of games. They’ve gotten a lot of good recruiting classes but they’ve lost that luster in the state. To be honest with you it’s not just Oklahoma and Texas A&M. LSU has been getting in there. Alabama has been getting in there. Ohio State has been getting in there.”

Recruiting has been hemoraghing this year with the loss of the Brockermeyer twins. The loss of Jalen Milroe. The loss of Quinn Ewers. We could go on and on about the misses in recruiting this year alone. That has been a major issue. Not winning and not dominating the Big 12 Conference in a year where the Oklahoma Sooners are having a down year? Not winning when you have the No. 6 most talented team in the country?

It is clear that Joel Klatt might have seen enough to know that Tom Herman isn’t getting the job done.

Ohio State still sitting pretty in Joel Klatt’s latest top ten

We share where Ohio State football falls in FOX College Football’s Joel Klatt’s latest opinion top ten.

Even though Ohio State was unable to play this week, Joel Klatt still thinks very highly of the Buckeyes. With a record of 3-0, Klatt left OSU at No. 2 in his personal rankings this week.

Alabama, who also was unable to play after LSU had several players test positive for COVID, stayed put at No. 1. Notre Dame took care of a pesky Boston College team and was kept in Klatt’s third spot, while Clemson, who was also off, stayed at No. 4.

The Big Ten in general was well represented in Klatt’s top ten. Wisconsin comes in at No. 7 after an absolute beat down of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Directly behind the Badgers? The surprise of the Big Ten, the Indiana Hoosiers at 4-0.

Ohio State hosts Indiana this Saturday and has garnered national attention as the Fox Big Noon Kickoff show will be in Columbus for the game. However, the undefeated Hoosiers team isn’t getting much respect and has opened as a big underdog against the Buckeyes.

This will be the first time Ohio State and Indiana have played as top-ten ranked opponents.

After their win a week ago over Clemson, Notre Dame moved up in the personal rankings of Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt as the Irish checked in third.

With Notre Dame being the only of his top five teams from a week in action this week, it’s no surprise there wasn’t any movement for the Irish after their 45-31 win at Boston College.

Klatt again ranked Notre Dame third overall with Alabama holding the top spot and Ohio State second.

The biggest risers this week come from the Big Ten where Wisconsin went from being just outside Klatt’s top ten to seventh while Indiana continued to move up, going from tenth to eighth.

Notre Dame has the next week off before they resume action the day after Thanksgiving at North Carolina.

Ohio State vs. Indiana network, game time announced

According to a tweet from Joel Klatt, we now know when the potential top ten matchup between Ohio State and Indiana will take place.

We’re slowly getting the details of games on the 2020 Ohio State football schedule. The latest comes thanks to FOX College Football’s Joel Klatt who let it slip that the Buckeyes will host what is currently a top ten Indiana team at Noon two games from now.

OSU travels to Maryland this weekend, then will be the FOX Big Noon Kickoff Game of the Week when the Hoosiers invade the banks of the Olentangy on November 21.

As long as IU can take care of business on the road against Michigan State this coming week, there will be some surprisingly high stakes on the line the week after. Justin Fields against Indiana’s Michael Penix should be an intriguing quarterback matchup to keep an eye on.

The winner, somewhat surprisingly in the Hoosiers’ case, might have the inside track to the Big Ten East division title.

Klatt has Notre Dame in his top 3 after defeating Clemson

Fox college football analyst Joel Klatt reranks his top 10 teams after last nights action, with Notre Dame going up after upsetting Clemson.

The praise is starting to roll in for the Irish and rightfully so. Last nights epic double-overtime thriller gave many national pundits more ammo to move Notre Dame higher in their rankings. Already ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit has moved the Irish into his his top two. Fox’s Joel Klatt didn’t put the Irish that high, just one off.

The 47-40 upset of No. 1 Clemson in South Bend has shaken the college football world. Brian Kelly guided his Notre Dame team to one of the biggest wins in his tenure and the recognition that comes with it.

Notre Dame now has a great chance at to make the College Football Playoff’s, even if they suffer a loss in the ACC Championship. They should be favored in every remaining game on the schedule, with the potential exception of a Clemson rematch in the conference title game.

Last night was electric, but the Irish can’t afford to let their guard down as they travel to Boston College this next weekend. Remember, the Eagles gave the same Clemson team a run for their money, but ended up losing late in the second half. Take a look at last nights highlights, it was one hell of a ballgame.

Joel Klatt updates his weekly top ten after week 11

Each week Joel Klatt gives us his top ten in college football and a few more. This time he has a little clarity for Ohio State at the top.

Another week of college football means another week of who thinks what teams rank where. After putting Ohio State, Alabama, and Clemson all on his top line last week in a tie, Joel Klatt gives a little more clarity after week 11.

The Buckeyes did exactly what everyone thought they would… at least in the first half, then seemed to take their foot off the gas in the second half. Clemson and Notre Dame had a nice battle with the Irish prevailing in double overtime, while Alabama was off this week.

With that in mind, Klatt had a little bit more clarity after Saturday night and re-ranked his top teams. Alabama came out on top with Ohio State right behind. Notre Dame jumped up to his three spot and a Clemson team that was without Trevor Lawrence and maybe, more importantly, several key defensive players, only dropped to No. 4 on his list.

Ohio State travels to Maryland next Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. EST tilt with the Terrapins who are looking good under first-year starting QB Taulia Tagovailoa. The Buckeyes then play a surprise Indiana squad in two weeks. Who would’ve thought, but Rutgers, Maryland, and Indiana might be the Buckeye’s toughest stretch of games. After watching Michigan and Penn State’s woeful starts to the season, it just might be.

On to week four… or twelve… I don’t know anymore.

Joel Klatt touts Justin Fields as Heisman frontrunner

Justin Fields has only played two games in the 2020 season, but Joel Klatt sees something Heisman worthy about the Ohio State quarterback.

Respected FOX college football analyst, Joel Klatt, says he has a new leader in the clubhouse to take home the Heisman Trophy. Just two games into the season and Klatt has seen enough to put Justin Fields at the top of his Heisman list.

We’ve been seeing Fields trend this direction with his nearly flawless performances against Nebraska and Penn State. We shared with you that USA Today has Fields listed at No. 3 in the Heisman race, but taking great strides forward, as well as climbing the betting odds.

Klatt has not only been impressed with Fields’ game statistics, but how he has put the extra work in preparation and attention to details. Klatt has telling comments on Fields:

“You’re not a great player until you are a great preparer for each game. Being detail oriented in your preparation, understanding the coaching points, making great decisions, all of those things take no talent at all. It takes a commitment to the detail and a commitment to the offense to take it out there and manage the game properly. That’s what Justin Fields did against Penn State.” Joel Klatt

There’s still a lot of football to be played this season and with the way 2020 is going, things can change at a moment’s notice. But for now, we’re going to enjoy watching the greatness that is Justin Fields.

Joel Klatt explains how Notre Dame makes College Football Playoff

This weekend Notre Dame hosts Clemson in a huge ACC contest, and Joel Klatt explains how the Irish make the College Football Playoffs.

Brian Kelly has downplayed this game, on Monday he told the media that “this game is not the end all for us.” Kelly might be correct in that assessment, as the possibility for the Irish to face off against Clemson again is certainly in play. However, Joel Klatt thinks Notre Dame needs this game due to Clemson star quarterback Trevor Lawrence being out after COVID-19 protocols.

“The playoff committee is not taking Notre Dame if they lose twice to Clemson. They’re just not going to do it. So, Notre Dame’s only path to the playoff is beating Clemson at least once this year and their best chance is clearly gonna to be at home with Lawrence not available,” Klatt told host Colin Cowherd.

Klatt is spot on with his assessment, the Irish at most can have one loss if they expect to be in the top four of the CFP’s final rankings. Ideally, Brian Kelly’s squad would beat the Tigers this week and then again in the ACC Championship game to give no doubt of their qualifications into the CFP.

A loss in the ACC title game is not great final optics, having a loss at the end of the year might give the committee enough credence to exclude the Irish if they deem another team to be more worthy. As for Clemson, if they lose this weekend against Notre Dame, the narrative will be they weren’t full strength without Lawrence.

The Irish need to take advantage of the situation this weekend and beat Clemson. Doesn’t matter how they do it, just win and let the cards fall where they may when the time comes.

Joel Klatt has Ohio State in elite company in his weekly top ten

Each week Klatt ranks his top ten teams in the country. Ohio State is in elite company.

[jwplayer PnmOZkAA]

Each week, Joel Klatt gives us his opinion of who the top teams in college football are. It’s just that… an opinion, but an opinion we tend to agree with.

After wins by Ohio State, Alabama, and Clemson, Klatt couldn’t put one over the other. The Buckeyes easily took care of Penn State and Alabama rolled past Mississippi State. Clemson struggled just a tad with Boston College but were without the services of Trevor Lawrence who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the week.

What is one to do when three teams look to be head and shoulders above the rest? Well, Klatt put all three on his top line. That’s right, the Fox Sports analyst believes there are three teams and then everyone else. And to be honest, he’s probably right.

Ohio State hosts a better than expected Rutgers team this week and looks to keep momentum rolling. Michigan, who was ranked No. 8 in Klatt’s previous poll, dropped out his top ten completely after a loss to 25 point underdog Michigan State. And at 2-0, Indiana is creeping up Klatt’s list as well.

There’s still a lot of football to be played this season, but it looks like Klatt’s top three are in a class all by themselves.
