Steelers CB Joe Haden says he’s ‘same speed’ as with Cleveland Browns

Pittsburgh Steelers CB Joe Haden said one of his main focuses of the NFL offseason was working on his speed.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Joe Haden!

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joe Haden said one of his main focuses of the NFL offseason was working on his speed.

“My offseason work was more speed, not so much lifting weights, trying to get as buff; just trying to maintain my top-end speed,” Haden told Steelers media after practice on Monday.

In Saturday’s preseason game, Haden came flying across the field and nearly intercepted Detroit Lions quarterback Tim Boyle on a pass to wide receiver Breshad Perriman.

Don’t tell Haden, 32, that he’s lost a step, though.

“I’m probably about the same speed as five years ago, but 10 years ago, maybe not,” Haden said. That timeframe would put Haden in the brown and orange of Steelers’ heated rival Cleveland Browns.

When asked to counter, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said, “Hey, if he said it, I agree with him.”

Haden, who made it clear he wants to finish his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, has only the 2021 season remaining on his current contract. If an extension doesn’t get done before September 12, Haden will likely hit the free-agent market in March.

Joe Haden calls Mike Hilton, Kenny Moore ‘1A and 1B’ among slot CBs

Joe Haden has a lot of respect for Kenny Moore.

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Kenny Moore II has become of the best nickel cornerbacks in the game since he arrived in 2017, and it hasn’t taken long for other players to notice his game.

Moore, who is arguably the most versatile piece in Matt Eberflus’ defense, got some high praise from Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joe Haden on Twitter.

After Haden claimed his teammate, Mike Hilton, is the best slot cornerback in the league, Saints defender C.J. Gardner-Johnson took exception to that, letting Haden know how he felt.

In response, Haden said Gardner-Johnson is top-three but firmly behind Hilton and Moore, who are “1A and1B.”

While Gardner-Johnson has been shining with the Saints since he fell to the fourth round in the 2018 draft, Moore has been one of the most complete defenders in the league.

Despite his size, Moore is able to excel in press coverage because of his physicality and exceptional arm length. He is also used plenty on blitzes from the slot while being arguably the best pure tackler on the team.

The nickel position is becoming increasingly important as the league shifts to more of a pass-heavy philosophy, and the Colts can rest comfortably knowing they have one of the best in the game.

Steelers CB Joe Haden activated from Reserve/COVID-19

Per the NFL transaction report, Haden is no longer on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

For what it’s worth, cornerback Joe Haden was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday, per the NFL transaction report.

It’s obviously just a formality at this point — players are working out on their own until the Steelers’ offseason program tentatively begins on April 19.

Haden tested positive on Jan. 2 and was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list — the day before the regular-season finale.

Steelers CB Joe Haden ruled out for Week 17 with COVID-19

Haden will also miss Pittsburgh’s wild-card game next weekend, per reports

The Browns aren’t the only NFL team battling with COVID-19 issues and player availability entering Week 17. Cleveland’s opponent on Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers, lost starting cornerback Joe Haden for the game after the ex-Browns standout tested positive for the virus on Saturday.

Haden will reportedly be placed on Pittsburgh’s reserve/COVID-19 list, though that has not yet been made official. Reports from ESPN, FOX and Sirius XM NFL Radio all indicate Haden tested positive.

If he did test positive on Saturday, Haden will also miss Pittsburgh’s playoff game in the wild-card round next weekend. A positive test means a player must sit for a minimum of 10 days.

Haden has 52 tackles and two INTs as a starter in 14 games for the Steelers. He’s in his fourth season in Pittsburgh after spending his first seven seasons with the Browns. A fan favorite from his time in Cleveland, Haden was the Browns’ first-round pick in 2010 out of Florida.

Haden offered this on his Twitter feed,

Watch: Joe Haden with Pick-6 of Robert Griffin for Steelers

Joe Haden picked off Robert Griffin III and took it to the end zone for a Steelers TD

Interceptions are the early order of the day in the oft-delayed Baltimore Ravens-Pittsburgh Steelers game.

First, Tyus Bowser picked off Ben Roethlisberger in the end zone. Instead of taking a knee and giving his team the ball at the 20 for a touchback, Bowser ran it out and was tackled deep in Baltimore territory.

That proved costly.

Robert Griffin III connected with Joe Haden, who unfortunately for RG III is a Steelers’ DB. Haden returned it 14 yards for the touchdown. The extra point was wide the Steelers had a 6-0 lead.

Ben Roethlisberger, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Joe Haden, Steelers tweet thankful messages to fans

The Steelers have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

The Pittsburgh Steelers set aside their angst toward the Ravens — until Sunday, that is — to express messages of thanks to all their supportive fans.

Instead of playing tonight, the NFL moved their Thanksgiving matchup to Sunday because of the COVID-19 outbreak in Baltimore on a short week.

Tackle Zach “Hulk” Banner got his parents in on his tweet. Banner has something extra to be thankful for this season. He was placed on injured reserve after tearing his ACL in the first game of the season but can now walk brace-less.

Even the newbie, linebacker Avery Williamson, got in the action.

Video of KJ Hamler blocking Joe Haden goes viral on Twitter

Broncos wide receiver KJ Hamler got the best of Steelers cornerback Joe Haden on Sunday and Twitter loved it.

Steelers cornerback Joe Haden was mic’d up by NFL Films against the Broncos on Sunday. During the game, Haden was pushed to the ground by rookie wide receiver KJ Hamler and he had a humorous reaction.

Football fans quickly fell in love with the viral clip.

Hamler made his NFL debut in Week 2 and he looked good, catching three passes for 48 yards. Knocking Haden to the ground wasn’t Hamler’s only highlight from the game.

With Courtland Sutton done for the year with a knee injury, Hamler has a shot to emerge as Denver’s No. 2 wide receiver behind Jerry Jeudy.
