Cam Heyward talks difference in locker room now vs. in Kansas City

The last time the Steelers were away from Heinz Field, the outcome was vastly different — and so was their locker room.

The last time the Pittsburgh Steelers were away from Heinz Field, the outcome was vastly different. And so was the Steelers locker room.

The day after Christmas, Week 16, Pittsburgh fell to the Chiefs in Kansas City, 36-10. Today, in the regular-season finale, the Steelers won a do-or-die game in overtime.

“You can see the difference in that locker room,” Cam Heyward said, per a tweet from TribLive’s Chris Adamski. “You could hear a pin drop after that game [in Kansas City].”

“Guys are excited, guys that have worked their tails off. It hasn’t been perfect, but we’re grinding out these wins. Man, we’re just hungry.”

The Steelers must stay hungry because if tonight’s Chargers-Raiders game doesn’t end in a tie, they’re heading back to Kansas City for Super Wild Card weekend.

Illness puts Steelers DT Cam Heyward’s status in jeopardy

Cam Heyward’s name popped up on the Steelers injury report on Friday.

Cam Heyward’s name popped up on the Steelers injury report on Friday, not with an injury but an illness — one that seems to be going around.

Zach Banner returned to practice yesterday after being sick for two days, but Heyward and fellow defensive lineman Isaiahh Loudermilk did not participate.

According to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Ray Fittipaldo, newly-signed defensive tackle Montravius Adams said Heyward took his linemen out for dinner and treatment after practice.

The defensive line is diminished, even with a healthy Heyward and Loudermilk. If these two don’t play, Mike Tomlin and crew will have a nightmare of shuffling around to do in an attempt to remain competitive versus Baltimore.

The Ravens have 16 players listed on their latest injury report. It’s been like that all season for Baltimore and they’re 8-3.

No excuses.

Steelers vs. Ravens: Good, bad and ugly with Friday’s injury report

CB Joe Haden will miss his third straight game with a foot injury.

Do you want the good news first? Pittsburgh Steelers tackle Zach Banner returned to the practice field after missing two days with an illness.

The bad news is both defensive ends Cam Heyward and Isaiahh Loudermilk did not participate on Friday due to an illness, and Joe Haden and Isaiah Buggs have been ruled out.

Here’s a look at the full practice report:

‘Unhappy’ about playing Tuesday, Baltimore Ravens reportedly threatened strike

Ravens players made it known they would strike if they had to play Tuesday. The NFL responded by pushing the game to Wednesday.

No new positives resulted in Monday’s round of returned tests, which essentially meant the Steelers-Ravens game was on (as rescheduled) for Tuesday night.

Not so fast.

Per Pro Football Talk, Baltimore Ravens players were refusing to play given that 20 players are on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Jonas Shaffer of the Baltimore Sun added that his source said the NFL offered a compromise instead of having a strike on their hands.

A strike, or refusal to play, would’ve been very costly for the NFL not only from a monetary standpoint but legally. According to PFT, the league would argue the strike violated both the CBA and agreement the players and league made to proceed with the season. A counterclaim from the NFL Players Association could’ve easily been argued that there’s a safety risk not allowing the Ravens ample time to prepare for the Steelers game.

“The stakes would potentially be very high,” wrote Florio. “The NFL, based on financial losses absorbed to date in 2020, could choose to rip up the agreement that allows the season to be played and scrap the balance of the season. Although that’s highly unlikely, the source made it clear that this possibility is squarely on the NFLPA’s radar-screen of potential concerns, in large part because no one knows how much money the various teams truly are or aren’t making (or losing) this season. If the league is swimming in red ink, this could be an easy way to stop the bleeding.”

Thus, the NFL appears to continue to kowtow to the Ravens in order to proceed with the season.

Apparently, the game is now Wednesday afternoon. Until Tuesday, when the league moves it to Thursday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to officially comment or acknowledge the third schedule change.
