Bengals QB Joe Burrow done for the season with torn wrist ligament

Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow will miss the rest of the 2023 season with a torn wrist ligament.

The Cincinnati Bengals announced on Friday that Joe Burrow, who was dealing with clear wrist and hand discomfort in Thursday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, will miss the remainder of the 2023 season with a torn wrist ligament.

Per head coach Zac Taylor, the injury happened on a tackle by Ravens pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney.

It’s the end of a frustrating season for Burrow, who was just starting to come back from a slow start after a preseason calf strain. Burrow had aggravated that injury in Cincinnati’s Week 2 game against the Ravens.

The Bengals have backup Jake Browning on the roster, and Browning completed eight of 14 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown against Baltimore’s top-tier defense — albeit in a 34-20 loss that put the 5-5 Bengals on the outside looking in when it came to the playoff picture.

That view obviously became more difficult to make out after this news.

Twitter reacts to Bengals QB Joe Burrow being out vs. Ravens with wrist injury

Here are some of the best tweets to emerge as NFL fans reacted to the news of Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow’s wrist injury.

Finally, a compelling matchup came to Thursday Night Football as the Cincinnati Bengals dueled with the Baltimore Ravens for a foothold in the highly competitive AFC North.

The game may as well have been called a TKO in favor of Baltimore. By halftime, Bengals starting quarterback Joe Burrow was sidelined with a developing wrist injury. “Developing,” here meaning there was footage of Burrow wearing a brace in the day leading into the game, but he was not on the injury report with a wrist issue.

Twitter was full of takes and responses when Burrow left the game. Here are some of the best.

NFL analyst predicts a massive season for Bengals’ Joe Burrow

Cincinnati Bengals fans have high hopes for their team entering the 2021 NFL season, and one NFL analyst believes that hype is warranted.

Cincinnati Bengals fans have high hopes for their team entering the 2021 NFL season. Quarterback Joe Burrow looks to be fully recovered from his ACL injury he suffered last season and assuming his positive progression continues, the Bengals will have the face of their franchise ready to begin the season week one against the Minnesota Vikings.

Prior to Burrow going down with that brutal season-ending injury, we saw flashes of immense promise from the Bengals signal-caller.

LSU fans have had the privilege of watching Burrow overcome adversity and offs during his time at LSU.

And if I could speak for all of LSU nation, I’d say that Bengals fans are in for a fun ride as they get to watch Burrow make his return to the field with a chip on his shoulder.

Last week, former Super Bowl-winning defensive end Chris Canty appeared on ESPN’s Get Up, and he gave his thoughts on just how excited Bengals fans should be for the 2021 NFL season.

Leading the AFC in yards and touchdowns is an extremely tall ask of Burrow this season, yet it’s tough to totally rule it out.

Several teammates and coaches of Burrow have been on the record in saying they believe Burrow has actually improved aspects of his game while rehabbing from his injury.

Burrow has elite company to compete within the AFC North as quarterbacks Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson, and Ben Roethlisberger all have competent offensive skill players with above-average overall teams.

If Burrow were to top the list of AFC North quarterbacks, expect big things from this Bengals team in 2021.

If Burrow is the guy we all think he is, the Bengals’ future is quite bright.

Bengals G Michael Jordan ‘took it really personal’ on play that injured Joe Burrow

Jordan and Burrow have known each other since 2016, when Jordan joined Ohio State, where the Burrow was a backup at the time.

The hype surrounding former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow last season was warranted.

And when Burrow was on the field, the hype surrounding the first overall draft pick became a reality as he proved that he has what it takes to be a franchise quarterback.

Joe Burrow had his rookie season end in a way that no football player, nor rookie, wants their season to end – with a season-ending injury.

Cincinnati Bengals offensive guard Michael Jordan experienced something that no offensive lineman in the football wants to experience – he got beat by Washington’s Jonathan Allen, and that exact play resulted in Burrow injuring his left knee resulting in Burrow’s season ending.

Horrific for Burrow, and his teammates felt the pain.

The season was over for the No. 1 overall pick.

“I took it really personal,” Jordan told The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr.

“It took me about a week to get out of my own head.”

Jordan and Burrow have known each other since 2016, when Jordan joined Ohio State, where the Burrow was a backup at the time.

“First thing I did was I apologized to Joe,” Jordan told Dehner.

“I told him he was not going to hear any more words from me. Just actions. I can tell him I’m going to do better. He doesn’t want to hear that. He wants to see it. I’ll prove what I’m saying and my convictions this upcoming season. Not a whole lot of talking; I’m just going to show it.”

Burrow has clearly earned the respect of his teammates, in a big way.

Year two in Cincinnati will look a lot different.

Joe Burrow’s 2021 NFL MVP odds

The excitement and hype surrounding Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow recently has been real, and deservedly so.

The excitement and hype surrounding Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow recently has been real, and deservedly so.

One expert believes that Joe Burrow is already better than Ben Roethlisberger, and the argument is quite valid. Another analyst stated that Burrow might be a true sleeper MVP candidate leading up to the 2021 NFL season.

As it currently stands Joe Burrow odds to win the 2021 NFL MVP are +5000.

I’m no betting expert, but I like those odds. A lot.

[lawrence-related id=17804]

Joe Burrow currently has better odds to win the MVP than players like Aaron Donald, Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan, Derek Carr, Cam Newton, and more. Sure, some of the names listed here are not MVP caliber players, but when looking at guys like Matt Ryan and Aaron Donald, having Joe Burrows name in the mix with them is nothing to joke about.

Joe Burrow is behind second year quarterback Justin Herbert who has +3000 odds to win the 2021 NFL MVP, but Burrow is ahead of Tua Tagovailoa, who’s currently at +6600 (Another great bet to make, FYI.)

[lawrence-related id=17842]

At the very least, analyzing how oddsmakers look at individual players prior to the season can be a lot of fun, especially considering how accurate some of these odds turn out to be. It’s very early, but it looks like a lot of people have faith that Burrow will bounce back from the injury he suffered in his rookie year.

LSU fans know all too well that you cannot and should not sleep on Joe Burrow.

Former LSU QB Joe Burrow to undergo knee surgery this week in Los Angeles

Ex-LSU quarterback Joe Burrow will undergo reconstructive knee surgery in Los Angeles this week.

Ex-LSU quarterback Joe Burrow is set to undergo reconstructive knee surgery this week in Los Angeles, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Sunday.

The procedure will be performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the Rams and Dodgers team doctor.

Burrow tore his ACL and his MCL, also suffering structural damage to his left knee when he was injured in the Nov. 22 contest against Washington.

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor told reporters this week that there is currently no timetable on Burrow’s return to the field. Surgery now should put Burrow on pace to return some time at the beginning of the 2021 season.

[lawrence-related id=13482]

Even after the injury, Burrow participated in quarterback meetings the week following the game.

“Joe’s hanging in there,” Bengals defensive end Sam Hubbard said. “He’s on his way to [the] West Coast to get the surgery and start his path to recovery. Mentally, he’s staying up. My heart goes out to him as his surgery approaches and his recovery process begins.”

The Heisman Trophy winner was putting together a season with Rookie of the Year potential before he was sidelined, completing over 65% of his passes for 2,688 yards with 13 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Burrow was also routinely failed by his offensive line, sacked an absurd 32 times through 10 games.
